I thought it was always obvious Renteria was a transitional manager that they'd get rid of when the team was ready. Good with kids. Good in the clubhouse. Not the type of guy you're going to hang on to. Not shocking in the slightest.

At the risk of getting real old man (41), the way pitching is trending is penny short, pound foolish. Too much leverage on every pitch, too many sessions, too many short sessions, too many specialized roles. They're ruining these kid's arms. If it continues to trend this way, you're going to have a lot of scenarios like the NFL has with running backs where you hope to get a couple really good years out of them before they're ruined. Football can't help it because the human body can't keep up with PEDs. Each impact is too great. Baseball is doing it by choice because they're not thinking long term.

The shortened season is a terrible way to evaluate young pitchers imo. Every pitch is amplified and it's hard to find any kind of rhythm. For a kid like Cease, who struggles with command, it's a nightmare scenario if he starts poorly. I've been a broken record, but I hate everything about this season, especially for us.

He's objectively a good coach with a nice resume. Sox fans don't like him because he's not going to kiss their ass and he isn't afraid to tell them to shut up.
