QUOTE(tony72 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) I was at the clincher in 1993 ! and everyone was waving White Socks... Wimpy even took off his shoes and waved his white socks !! You think he could have bought some instead !! Hey Tony, I was at that game too, way up in the UD. I actually had tickets to the game a few days prior which was rained out and we were able to exchange the tix for the clincher. I was so happy that game was rained out!

With the increase in attendance and an inevitable buzz about to hit the South Side, do you all think the white socks will make their return? I don't think they were out in full force in 2000, but I remember in 1993 it was the big thing. My prediction is after Friday night's game where they hand out Hanes white socks to the first 20,000 or so, from then on everyone will start doing it again. Everyone will see it on tv, and it'll catch on.

I've been to a couple games by myself, and never really thought anything of it. Just the other day I was listening to Carmen & Silvy on the radio, and they were ripping on people who go solo; they were talking about Carol Slezak who went to Wrigley Field and US Cellular solo in one day, saying 'doesn't she have any friends, that's so weird' etc. So now I'm a little bit self-conscious about being seen at the Cell by myself. I work in the city, all my friends work in the suburbs, so its' easier just going alone sometimes. Should I still go alone on Monday night?

What would you do if the Sox won the World Series?
SouthSidePride05 replied to crash's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would never be able to speak again, I wouldn't care though.. I wouldn't be able to contain my excitement. I think White Sox fans, and the whole Sox organization, wants to win it more than any other team in history. I hope that's not a bad thing; I hope they're able to focus and not get too tight. Just to make it to the World Series would be the greatest moment ever. I can't imagine the atmosphere at the Cell. I can just picture the Fox crew set up on the Fundamentals deck for the pre-game show and trying to speak over the roar of the crowd. God, I hope it's this year! -
How many games up do we need to be in July
SouthSidePride05 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We still have 13 games remaining with Minnesota and 10 games left with Cleveland. Anything can happen. Every game from here on out is huge; we can't afford to lose any ground. -
I doubt any games this weekend will sell out. Should be about 30,000 or more for each game. The Saturday night game vs Boston in 2 weeks is almost sold out. You can't get 2 seats together anywhere in the park, only singles. I think that'll be our 6th sellout of the year.

US Cellular Field Shuttle Busses
SouthSidePride05 replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) It wont happen. There's no need. There is parking at the cell. Thanks everyone for your responses. I just hate paying $17 but I heard that Lot G is $8 if you get there an hour and a half before gametime. Can you park there 2 hrs before gametime, and what about if you get there just 1 hr before gametime; does it fill up quickly?? I hate being on such a tight budget. BTW, why do all my threads get off topic and get out of hand? -
Does anyone know if there's any shuttle busses available to and from US Cellular? The reason I'm asking is because yesterday I noticed a bunch of signs at Yorktown Mall announcing $6 round-trip express shuttle Pace busses to and from Wrigley Field for every Cubs game. If the Sox did this, it would save fans a lot of money (gas money and $17 for parking), and it would give suburban Sox fans another option on how to get to the ballpark. In fact they should have multiple shuttle busses going to the Cell from different malls.. park your car at the mall and take the bus. Does something like this already exist for the Sox?

Hawk just gave a shoutout to Soxtalk. They both said "Soxtalk.com.. Yesss".

7/5 Gamethread Devil Rays vs White Sox
SouthSidePride05 replied to ChWRoCk2's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Damn, I missed the game. I was reading thru my "Golf Digest". :banghead -
The Sox need to focus and go on another winning streak starting Tuesday. We need to get this 9 1/2 lead up to 15. After the all-star break, Minnesota has a rough schedule. Maybe if we get a 15 game lead, the Twins and Cub fans will shut up. Right now, they're all saying (esp at my work) the Sox will choke and Minnie will eventually pass us. They never shut up about it. One more month of solid play, and they'll all shut up. Ahhhh.. I can't wait for that day. When do you guys think they'll eventually all shut up??

Flubs vs. White Sox 6/26/05 game thread
SouthSidePride05 replied to Dam8610's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Sox fans need to be extra vocal at the beginning, at the very first strike Garland throws. The fans need to be into it from the getgo. The whole team feeds off of it. Go Sox! -
Flubbies @ White Sox Game Thread

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Worst game I've ever been to. Surrounded by Cubs fans and having to go through a grand slam in the top of the first? Everything was ruined. That was f***ing hell. That sucks. Were there more Cubs fans than Sox fans at the game? If I had to be surrounded by more than a thousand Cubs fans at once, I think I'd lose my mind, I'd just walk away flicking everyone off :finger .. I've actually had dreams like that. I wonder if that means anything. -
OFFICIAL SOXTALK TICKET SWAP THREAD!!!
SouthSidePride05 replied to BigNDfan80's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anyone have any extra singles for tomorrow? I just found out I have off work tomorrow! But that means I would have to go solo since my friends have to work. I'm also curious.. how did fans get tickets to this series, and when did they sell out? I'm under the impression that you had to buy a 9-game or more plan in order to get Cubs/Sox tickets. So will US Cellular be packed with Sox fans who bought those packages?? I hope there's less Cubs fans this year, but I've seen a lot of Cubs fans in attendance at the Cell, and maybe they're the ones who bought a 9-game package. -
People who are worried about attendance don't get to enjoy this special season to its fullest. Why worry about attendance when there's nothing you can do about it. It's not like you have 10,000 friends who you can bring with you. Those people are gonna be bummed tonight...the last 3 corner sections on either side will be empty..probably 22K...and then Wed..ouch. I'm just preparing myself for all their rants later on.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) My Spidey Sense tells me.. I think tonight will be near 32K.. tomorrow about the same and Sunday maybe a little lighter. The weather is supposed to be awesome all weekend. I love Spidey Senses. I think you might be right about 32K tonight. That would be awesome! Tomorrow night, I'm predicting a sellout...37K at least. Can't wait for this series. -

Hey Steff, How do you know that about ticketmaster releasing more at noon and 5:45? And just curious, how many people do you think will be at each game this weekend? I might walk up, depending on if my brother gets off work.. I've gone solo too many times.. not as fun. -
Sox v. Dodgers Game Thread 6/17/05
SouthSidePride05 replied to bjm676's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I can't wait for this series. If KC can sweep the Dodgers, why can't we? I'm surprised there's still many tickets available for tonight's game. I still think if prices for this series weren't raised higher, we'd be seeing sellouts for each game. Bad move! -
It really is a joke that all these media outlets are bringing up this issue now; it's been this way for years. And they refuse to acknowledge the fact that attendance this year is on par to be the best in over a decade. For anyone that cares, it was about a 6-minute segment. It started with Sox highlights from this year, and then the lady (don't know her name) interviewed a guy in North Carolina who wrote a book on the Cubs, believe it or not. The book is called "Cubs Nation : 162 Games. 162 Stories. 1 Addiction", and that's who they interviewed. UNBELIEVABLE! She starts by saying last night the Cubs drew 39,000 fans and the Sox drew 15,000 less at 60% capacity, and then she asked him why it seems like nobody in Chicago even cares about the White Sox. Meanwhile they showed pictures of US Cellular field when a game wasn't even going on (no one on the field and only a few people in the seats). He said when people put their heads on their pillow at night, they don't think.. Well geez I wanna go to US Cellular Field tomorrow, whereas everyone wants to go to Wrigley Field, the disneyland of baseball. He also said it's a case of not all of the White Sox fans are going to the game, and if they were, we wouldn't be seeing these small crowds. He ended by saying the way to get people to come is just keep winning. That's about it. :sleep
-
I was just watching Cold Pizza (flipping through channels looking for highlights), and they said "coming up in the next segment, we will talk about the Chicago White Sox; they have the best record in baseball, but they're still playing second fiddle to the Cubs in Chicago". So it's coming up in the next segment. The show runs from 9-11 am. If you don't feel like sitting through this garbage until they get to the Sox, I'll post a recap later on.

He's entitled to his opinion, but it also makes him sound ignorant. It's like saying "being left handed is just wrong". I have had gay friends, and it's obvious to me you're born that way. End of story. Why the author asked him that question out of the blue... probably because he knew what Carl would say.. what else would you expect him to say.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Well were they hot? Very! That's why I just laughed it off.

What's the most embarrassing thing you've heard or seen from clueless people at the game? Last night I was sitting behind 6 or 7 high school girls, and they weren't even watching the game, just talking and socializing. In the first inning, the crowd started cheering for JC on the mound, with 2 strikes and 1 out w/ man on 3rd. They proceeded to cheer with everyone else, and then the fly ball. They stood up to see if it was caught, and when it was caught they started jumping up and down going crazy and giving each other high fives, not even realizing they had scored a run. In the next inning, one of the girls asks 'where's the scoreboard, how do we know what the score is?'... and the other girls says 'I never even thought of that, if you hadn't mentioned it, I would've never looked for a scoreboard' as they all laughed. Then they started talking about different cute guys at their school, not even looking at the field.

I can't stand Terry Boers. Ever since he went on a tirade last season about how Sox fans are only fans because they want to go against what's popular, and Sox fans deserve the worst because they're all losers, I've tried not to listen to that joke. He's the type of guy who says whatever comes to his mind. If he's depressed, which is often, he'll go off on anything. He's the worst! On a side note, can you imagine how much crap we'll hear if the Sox do make the World Series...from the negative media and other people who hate the Sox. From the usual "worst fans in sports" to "beating up coaches" to "everyone in Chicago and across the country/world/planet is a Cubs fan". Honestly, I won't care though because I'll be on cloud 9; it'll just make the Sox fans even more loud and crazy at the Cell.

I was there too, and I left in the 7th. And I never leave early. I left at 9:00 hoping to catch the Metra at Ogilvie at 9:40 (didn't feel like waiting for the 10:40). Ran to the Green Line, got off at the Clinton station at 9:30 and ran the 3 blocks and barely made the train. A bunch of Cubs fans also were running to catch the train as they left their game early too. The only good thing about the blowout was I got home at a decent time. And I didn't have to endure the obnoxious Cubs fans behind me cheering every time the D'backs got a hit or homerun. They were driving me crazy!
