    The Office

One wish for the next year or so... Don't try to make this show serious between Pam and Karen. Just laughs please Other than that, its obviously that Andy v. Dwight is gonna be hilarious. Its the battle of two Kramers gold jerry.... gold
  2. Just curious... When was the last time the Sun-Times, or any publication, speculated on a trade and then it actually happened? its like were chasing our tails here...
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) Did I just hear that right on the Score, Hendry saying he might think about putting Cotts in the starting rotation?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! If thats true, thats real bad for cubs fans. Maybe they are already counting themselves out of the off-season pitching madness that is about to ensue. ... i was so hoping they signed Gil Meche to a 5 year 45 million dollar deal. edit: also, for what its worth, Aardsma had a 1.72 ERA in he final month of the season. Small sample pool though. He'd have been very good in August as well except for one poor outing against the astros
  4. At first, this deal made me sick... It had a "Todd Ritchie" feel to it. Then I looked at Cott's numbers: In 2005, Cotts was unhittable from both sides of the plate. Righties hit .115 off him; That jumped to a whopping .314 in 2006. Against lefties he went from .206 to .263. 2006 totals: .291 BA with a .903 OPS. Thats not a guy we want coming out of the bullpen. The way things are situated right now, with Jenks, Thornton, and MacDougal, Cotts was expendable. I have no idea what where getting in return. On that issue, I guess I'll just trust Kenny. I'm quite certain he's earned it.
  5. Personally, I don't think she did anything wrong. Obviously men who sleep with high school students should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law... But when its the other way around, I see nothing wrong with it.
  6. How about "One nation, One Pizza; Deep Dish forever"
  7. I really think the white sox are sitting pretty. They've got what no one else has... starting pitching. Realistically they could trade two starters (including broadway) and not miss a beat next season. The sox are THE prime trading partner in this hot-stove year. We're going to see some crazy contracts in the next few weeks. That may actually help the sox. Suddenly, Freddie Garcia's contract won't seem so nutty when we start hearing about the deals happening this offseason.
  8. what about frist... isn't he planning to run?
  9. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) AF was saying that he thought (wasn't sure) they have to offer a contract with total value at least as large as the posting amount. If the posting amount is $40 mil, and Boras holds fast to a 3-year contract, that's $80 mil over 3 years, or roughly $27 mil per year. I was asking, if Boston insists on a 5-year deal (making the total $80 mil over 5, $16 mil per year), who blinks? This is exactly why Boras has so much less negotiating power in this system than in the "free market system." Nobody else can compete for the offer. I think he'll have no choice but to blink. Once a post has been made, I believe its good for one year; And if no deal is made, then the Red Sox get the 40 million back. If the deal is fair, then Boras will probably have to take it. Fair is probably 8-12 million. Boras could sue alleging restraint of trade... but that battle could take years. I suspect the court would not grant an injunction against the posting system since the loser would be irreparably harmed and the actual likelihood of success is questionable. (Some of the other lawyers here, I'd be interested to hear other opinions). Maybe the Bo Sox trade the negotiation rights... I don't know. I could easily see a scenario where the Dodgers trade a bunch of their prospects (they have a lot) for the rights to Matsuzaka and like 20 mil. Then, the Dodgers could probably put together a reasonable deal for Matsuzaka.... and he stays out of the bronx. The cubs could be another possibility; but other than cash, I don't see what else they have to offer. The more capital they spend on a risky investment, I think they would be less valuable as an organization that may be for sale.
  10. So what does this mean for an Arod deal?
  11. Its also a real possibility that the Red Sox bid so high in an effort prevent the yankees from getting him. Then, they might deal him to a National League team, eat part of his salary, and maybe get a few nice pieces in return. This keeps him out of the hands of the evil empire for at least three years. If they got 30 million back from the deal, basically they'd be keeping Matsuzaka off the yanks for 3.3 million bucks a year. Strikes me as a real problem with the posting system...
  12. I agree that if the Yankees threw in a bunch of dough, I would do the deal. Honestly, I think Crede is a rental right now... as soon as he can get the big dough, he'll be gone. Freddie is overpaid and his loss of velocity leads me to believe that he's on the rapid decline to the basement of his career. Broadway is a great player, but I'm not sure he's the major league star in the making. I think he's probably a career third starter... So, does the deal make sense? A hall of famer, who was a gold glove short stop two seasons back for a pitcher who makes 10 mil and lost 6-8 mph on his fastball last year, a third base all-star that's destined to leave anyway, and a future #3 starter? I'd take the deal... even if we didn't have Fields to bring up... One question though...where does arod bat in the lineup? I guess third? 1) pods/roberts/pierre/whoever 2) Iguchi 3) Arod 4) Konerko 5) Thome 6) Dye 7) AJ 8) Anderson 9) Fields Bench - Cintron, Uribe, Mack, Thats pretty sick (well, maybe not 8-9)
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) ESPN report posted online doesn't sound very conclusive. They claim Boston "may have" won. Boston's MLB message board is basing their opinions off Olney's information. If I were a Red Sox fan, personally, I'd wait before celebrating. We've seen before how supposedly "close" deals were overblown. Even if this preliminary report is true, between $38 million and $45million is an absurd amount for an unproven pitcher. Include this total with a rather conservative three year estimate of his salary (~30/3), and over the duration of three years, he's costing Boston between 22 and 25 million per season. If you're looking at cost in 2007 alone -- when combined with $10 million salary -- he's costing Boston between 48 and 55 million. For that price, he damn well better be Cy Young. Oh, and goodbye Manny Ramirez. My understanding of this process (and I could be wrong) is that the Red Sox HAVE to match the amount paid to the Lions for the bargaining rights. That is, if they offer $40 mil for the negotiating rights, they have to offer a contract for at least 40 million. Now, that could be 13.3 mill a year for three years. (a deal Matusaka would probably take, but Boston would be hesitant to offer). It could also be a 1 million dollar deal for forty years... (a deal not likely to be taken by Matusaka). The Lions DO NOT have to take the highest bidder... Instead, they can take the bidder they think is most likely to be able to sign Matusaka. The catch is this: If Boston doesn't come to terms with Matusaka, then Boston gets their $40 Million dollar for negotiating rights back from the Lions. No other team could then buy his rights for another year. Thus, The red sox would have blocked an attempt by the evil empire to sign him. This is my understanding of the situation. I do not know if its right. The only other situation I might expect to see is Boston offering Matusaka a 5 year deal worth 40 million... Which he might actually take just to get this move over with. Then, Matusaka would effectively cost the Red Sox approximately 16 mill a year - which is very lucrative, but not necessarily completely insane (think Chan Ho Park).
  14. Maybe Roberts is our fourth outfielder... The way Ozzie rotates players, I don't think I'll sleep at night again knowing that Mackowiak is gonna be in center every third or fourth day again... Plus, having some time off periodically would probably help him stay healthy. He's a great pinch runner. I can't imagine that he's gonna make the big bucks this season. So sign him up...
  15. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) The book "Three Nights in August" is about the Cardinals/Cubs rivalry. The author Buzz Bissinger, spent a lot of time in the St. Louis Clubhouse. If you read the book, its unbelievable how much time he spends talking about how JD Drew's talent is wasted. If you get the book, just look in the index under JD Drew; You'll find entries for JD Drew: Lazy, Lack of Motivation, Indifferent, Wasting his talent. You get the impression the JD Drew could be the greatest of all-time... but he's just pissing it away with poor attitude. P.S. I believe Duracell is traditionally the sponsor for J.D. Drew Night in Philadelphia. Chronic underachiever with a lazy attitude and a history of injury problems who's about to get a giant contract.... Sounds like he'll be sporting Cubby Blue in no time

    The Office

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 07:22 AM) And the daggers are gonna fly between Pam and the "other" girl. Jim is gonna have a mess on his hands soon. Im wondering if there will be a problem between Dwight and the other wierd guy in the Stamford office over who is the most weird. (there was an episode of Newsradio where French Stewart was a temp and Andy Dick and French Stewart tried to "outwierd" each other, it was great) Karen v. Pam... its coming. If I had to guess, I suspect that Jim will wind up with Karen first... which will probably make Pam flip out. But this shows been pretty unpredictable the season... so we shall see. Also, I love the idea of Dwight v. Andy (Ed Helms character). I sorta think that Andy won't come to Scranton though... Lastly, there's obviously going to be some conflict between Jim (who's getting promoted) and Dwight... that will certainly piss Dwight off..

  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) You all got what you wanted - control of Congress and the EVIIIIIIIIL Donald Rumsfeld to resign all within 24 hours of each other. So, for just one day, can you let it rest for once? I guess not. We got all we wanted? Are you kidding me? We've had one day! In case you forgot, here's what you've had recently: 1) 12 consecutive years of controlling the House of Representatives 2) 10 of 12 years of controlling the Senate 3 6 consecutive years of controlling the White House (even after a lost popular vote in 2000) 4) An impeachment trial of a President who basically lied about getting a BJ 5) 2 uber-conservatives have coasted through the senate on their way to the Supreme Court 6) A veritable plethora of highly charged conservative laws that appeal to virtually no blue states. Let it rest? All we've been able to do was push one grossly inept bureaucrat out of a position he was failing miserably in... And everyone is better off for it! You know how many high-ranking retired military generals had turned on this guy?! Including republican golden boy Colin Powell himself?

    Mono

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Anyone.. Bueller.. I'm not Ferris Bueller, but I am Abe Froman.... I've had mono. Towards the beginning, I slept for like 24 hours straight. That was among the greatest days of my life. For the next month, basically I played video games and kept to myself. I got sick on my first day home for x-mas break from college... So I really didn't miss any class or anything.
  20. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) C'mon, they were all in this together. It wasn't a referendum on Bush, it was a referendum on following blindly. well said... Lots of reasonable, likeable, good republican candidates lost cause the did whatever the boss told them to. I'd bet that if those qualified republican candidates had spoken out against bush, there would be a lot more of them in Congress right now.
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) I saw MSNBC back off the earlier projection for Cardin in MD. That's bull$hit, right? yeah... its bullshi*t
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Webb with the lead. Gonna be interesting to see how big a fight the repubicans put up in a recount (if Webb wins)...
