QUOTE (chw42 @ May 23, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) The problem with Latos is that when he's good, he's pretty good. When he's bad, things get bad real fast. Honestly lately most of his good has just been "right size, wrong shape" or "rocket right at ____" -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 23, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) Can you explain that to me? What's considered good? I'm trying to learn some of these stats Anything over .300 is good but really it's mostly a function of luck except for super fast guys or sluggers (think Eaton or Frank Thomas). Some guys just hit the ball harder and run faster but for the most part it's luck. Last year when Avi was hitting over .300 early he had a .400 BABIP, basically he was just getting lucky. When his BABIP came back to earth, so did his slash line. Ironically, Austin Jackson is a guy that made an absolute killing early in his career by maintaining a BABIP over 330. He was hitting the ball hard and running very, very fast. Tim Anderson when he comes up is another guy that will have a high BABIP. Slash hitter that is fast. He'll have to maintain it to have success in MLB. Pitcher BABIP is another story all together. A lot of good free info on Fangraphs, etc. -

Indians at White Sox (notes/thoughts)

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 23, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) I agree that Saladino has done a lot to impress during this slump and should be seeing more PT. Sox are really trying to find a lineup that works, though, and Saladino has to be a lock to play in game 2. I dunno it would be very RV to run out a 37 year old Rollins for both. -

QUOTE (flavum @ May 23, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) I kinda hope it's Carlos Sanchez. He needs to play, and really is a waste on the roster right now. Might need Purke tonight anyway. They are f***ing up Carlos the same way they f***ed up Semien IMO. Treating him like a 30 year old utility guy instead of a guy that either should in playing every day in AAA or playing every day in the big leagues at one position not all over the diamond. Carlos isn't any great shakes but he's still only 24 and has one great tool -- defense -- that could allow him to turn into a 2 WAR player with a litttle more development. But instead he's not seeing regular AB and is being asked to play a new position at the MLB level. -
Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 23, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) It always looked ridiculous. But yes it's worse when the team slumps, because that's when he tightens up and plays not to lose, such as bunting his best hitter down when down 2 runs, etc. That was REALLY STUPID. Adam Eaton has a 40% OBP. He gets on base 40% of the f***ING TIME and we are bunting down two runs with nobody out? Hey, guess what, you play for ONE RUN YOU GET ONE RUN. I'm sick of RV. -
QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 21, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) Erik Johnson will be called up to pitch the 2nd game of Monday's DH per beat guys on twitter. oh boy.
-
WTF did Avi piss in RV's cornflakes or something? Also at this point Rollins should be the backup SS, not TYler.

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 22, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) What exactly does Jimmy Rollins bring to this team? With Abreu getting the day off, the best DH they could employ was Rollins, even with a RH pitcher. Wow, if that doesn't speak volumes about the need for another bat, I don't know what does. If Rollins isn't going to hit, what is the point of having him on the roster? He is not a good SS, at this point in his career. I asked once before but I'll ask again; How much better is Saladino, defensively? I know he's better, but to what degree? He should be dfa. Father time is still undefeated. Good win finally came out on the right side of a close one again.
-
Yes, yes it is. Failure has many fathers but this one is mostly on Abreu and Jackson right now. They have been a couple of the worst regulars in MLB.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) He's been ok this year...not great, not awful (outside of a game or so, but that is true for every manager). At some point though, you have to get results on the field. Same exact reason Hahn should be fired after this season if this team hovers around .500 again. Hahn deserves another year, he's slowly built the team up from the absolute bottom and now they are middle tier. RV does not deserve another year.
