2/27 - Guardians @ Sox - 2:05 CST
chitownsportsfan replied to WestEddy's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Who cares? Why would I root against any Sox player? Getz is a clown, Colas is just a dime a dozen AAAA type but our org did him zero favors and I guarantee word around the league is that this franchise is poverty, doesn't develop any young talent and is a miserable place to be. -

I think he hates this org and is depressed. I don't blame him. -

Much like a dead arm if the player isn't back in a week or two get concerned. Until then it's a nothingburger. Last year he had oblique tear, different issue and unrelated to any sort of spasms he's having in his back. Young tall dude getting a shitload of reps after adding muscle so yea, could be just usual wear and tear from ramping up in spring. -
Which position player will surprise above 100 OPS+ offensively?

That's the crux of it. It was a massive scouting fail. His best position is...hitter? And he needs massive improvement there? What are we doing? Hope in one hand and in the other... -

I wonder if Vargas' walk rate will come down if he continues to show no real power. Like Madrigal, if the pitcher thinks he can knock the bat out of your hand, you're not going to get worked around very often you'll just get attacked mercilessly. -

Honestly nobody but thread tax I will go with Beni. I think for some reason he’s going to be motivated to GTFO and while it is just a wild hunch I think he starts hot and builds trade value. -
Yea I said it yesterday. The SP is going to be horrific. We could challenge our own record.

Slinker?

"chuckers" sounds so stupid imo. Just say pitchers.

Tuesday - 2/25/25 - Sox at Rox spring training
chitownsportsfan replied to WestEddy's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Colson is going to hit. We haven't had a player like him in forever. I honestly don't think we've ever had a guy with his physical profile from the left side since I've been a fan. The closest would be Jermaine but he was RHB and fading out of his prime when we got him. -

I'm old and have seen a lot of spring training baseball that doesn't mean jack s%*#. But this team is getting ass blasted for a reason. We could be worse than last year in all honesty. The SP will be horrific, and for most of last year it was simply mediocre to bad. -
Give it two weeks we'll probably have half a dozen guys dealing with "dead arms". I agree, it's almost like they are pushing these velocity reports as a distraction from how awful everything else so far this spring.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
chitownsportsfan replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, not even close. As @ptatc said JR had very little if any influence during the last labor dispute. Furthermore, owners like Cohen have entered the game lately that flat out do not agree with the old school "fiscal discipline" (whatever that means) message that JR is always spouting. The game has changed with more ways to spend productively as well: international area operations in LA and Asia, signing ready made regulars and stars from Korea and Japan, big analytics departments and "sports science" operations. A lot of teams want to spend money to make money, or if not make money, at least field a competitive team. -
Let me rephrase: there is nothing in his recent profile that suggests he'll hit. I don't really rate minor league stats at this point. What tools do you see when you watch him that will allow him to succeed in MLB? He's not powerful, he's not a long lever guy or a quick twitch type. He has good straight line speed but can't leverage it in the field for much, and if he's not on base often that won't help much either. His statcast data is really, really bad so he fails the metrics as well as the eye test there. As always, I hope he gets hotter than s%*#, but there's no recent data that suggests he's anything other than a utility guy at best.
-
Nothing in his profile suggests he'll ever hit but as you noted they might as well trot him out there and see if he can at least play a cromulent 3B, as that's the only way his bat will ever play as a regular. It was a really poor scouting decision that led to acquiring him so I hope if he's hitting 180/230/300 in late June they just cut bait and rotate in someone else.

Bro we just set the all time loss record and are projected for 50 wins. We can save the sanctimonious critiques of the downers because we are historically awful, ya know?

2/22 Sox @ Cubs 2:05 PM - Baseball is back!

Semien was written off as a guy that would never be able to play even an adequate SS by this org. He then went on to become by all accounts a solid defensive SS for half a decade. Not sure how you got trade him out that but perhaps I wasn’t clear enough. Guys improve until proven they can’t. We aren’t in any window other than suck for a couple years might as well try a baptism by fire and a couple offseasons of hard work and see what he does. -

Honestly I don’t want to have a semien 2 here. Give him a couple seasons see how he performs and if he shows improvement. We don’t have anything to lose and the young guys on staff can get over it imo. -

Not saying he’s arod but I’d imagine if he has a strong enough arm he can stay at short until he’s 27-28 and then head over to 3rd. He is unlikely to have great range at SS but neither did some good ones like Uribe either. We will see I think the speed of the game at SS at MLB is too much for a lot of guys so we will see if he’s even below average there. If he’s hitting 240/340/480 that’s still a 5 war player regardless. -

Colson looks massive. Really impressive body transformation.
