  1. Well you only need to look across the division to Cleveland to see how quickly a "non contending" year can turn into a contending year. I'm not going to write the Sox off in 2023 and neither should anybody else. That said, there is work to be done on the roster to improve our chances. Getting our young guys into more suitable positions defensively and letting them focus on health and their offense is part of that.
  2. A move that should have been made earlier. The poor roster construction has haunted this team for years. Jose shut me up plenty and I still have the ball he signed for me almost a decade ago now down in AZ. So it's bittersweet to see him leave but at least it clears 1B and DH up for younger players.
  3. Mildly optimistic they managed to hire a manager without any ties to the city or franchise. That said, unless they fix the roster it doesn't matter.
  4. another white sox retread that JR can control. Yikes.
  5. OZZIE GUILLEN QUIT ON THE TEAM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON!
  6. Jeff Pearlman is a well known ass clown. Anon sources are par for the course for him.
  7. If they hire Ozzie I'm done. I just won't root for any team.
  8. Lol he actually pulled out the billy beane moves like a million bucks in warm ups trope. God help us Sox fans.
  9. Slap in the face to families. Go be Cubs fans young ones is basically what they are saying.
  10. f*** THE FUCKING ASTROS ALL THE DAMN LUCK TOO
  11. accountability is just something the media and fans talk about because it's harder to explain how a guy like moncada goes from a 5 WAR true talent to 2 WAR true talent in one season. I'm not saying that the leadership was poor and guys weren't held accountable (whatever that means) but I'm also saying it's a black box that really isn't helpful for team building this offseason. If they had signed a a 3 WAR 2B and a 3 WAR RF they probably make the playoffs, and all this talk of accountability is muted. Get better players, make better decisions in FA.
  12. the problem has nothing to do with "red asses" and everything to do with s%*# players under-performing.
  13. This is terrible and Reddit. I got some good laughs tho.
  14. you can't possibly be serious. the same could be said in reverse accept actually accurate. we also you know, got a fucking 6 WAR SP out of the deal, regardless of how many IP he has left in his arm. eloy is a baller, he needs to be a DH, that's on the org, not him.
  15. Thank God. I feel like they could have played 200 games and we'll still be a .500 club.
  16. I don't really even rate them as depth. Depth guys should have versatility or failing that one really amazing skill. If Sheets was like a 130 wRC+ type against RHP hell yea keep him. Or if Burger was anything more than like a 1 WAR player whose best position is DH, sure. That said, of course they don't have any value around the league either but sometimes just turning over your roster you find some new blood. The Sox are too often content to keep the edges of the 40 man consistent and I don't like that approach to team building. I'd prefer to constantly be turning over the Sheets and Burger types, even if you have to just lose them for "nothing" once and while you're eating opportunity cost keeping them around.
  17. I haven't thought about it too much but from reading here it seems that one of Vaughn, Eloy and Jose has to go, and probably two of them if you're serious about fixing some of the issues that plague this roster. I don't think that you need to carve out a role for Sheets, he had a 108 wRC+ against RHP and that's hardly good enough to carry his glove. Personally I don't like selling low so I'd hold on Vaughn and Eloy. Jose, well, you let him walk. I'd probably just give Sheets away for an A ball lotto ticket or similar, maybe a MLB ready reliever. I'd look to trade Burger, Sheets, Giolito, Liam and possibly Moncada if you can get anything back. I know I just said I don't like selling low but in a package deal maybe it would make sense. Frankly I don't need next season to look like a 90-95 win team on paper. I just want to see a balanced roster with actual flexibility going forward both payroll wise and with the position players. If they have to take a "step back" in projectable talent for 2023 to do so, that's fine. Expectations have been reset for better and worse.
  18. Absolute horse s%*# and yet completely par for the course that they didn't disclose his additional health issues in February. Dude should never have been managing this year. You can't tell me it didn't affect him. This is a young man's league for the most part.
  19. Jose is gone, that's what I'm reading from all the comments. He was a great player for us for the most part that had to deal with a lot of shitty players around him.
  20. I don't even give half a s%*# about quoting myself or breaking down the projections for the squad. It really doesn't matter. We have a good squad. Spending money to bring in premium players would have gotten it done this year, 110 or 135 million dollar payroll be damn. Sometimes 92 wins turns into 82 (or less) because that's baseball. Sign the guys to put u in contention for a s%*# division even when you're projected 80% to win it. This ownership has a "oh everything will go ok" mindset and doesn't understand how baseball works. You talk about rebuilding then Hahn, to his credit, does a decent job, but then you can't sign that extra 2-5 WAR every offseason that every fucking other top 10 payroll contener manages and you don't make the playoffs and you fucking blow it with the fans. Great job, penny smart pound (topical) foolish. Maybe Liz Truss can run the team better, low fucking bar.
  21. You know the team sucks when 75% of the new topics here headed into October are media react s%*#. I'm, we, are too old for s%*# s%*# man.
