  1. you ever notice how many that post here (no offense) have no idea what they are following on the field and industry? Yea. Kudos for asking questions and not being proudly ignorant and obstinate but it's almost impossible for me to believe that someone that posts here as regularly as yourself would not have have picked some of this stuff up by osmosis. Almost once a week a broadcast will mention the new tracking technology. FFS when Statcast data was fully implemented in what, 2017 it was mentioned almost every single inning. They beat us over the head with it.
  2. No offense but it's been common knowledge for any halfway tuned in fan for at least a few years. @[email protected] explained it well. Most of it is MLB provided technology available to the clubs. Also, to add on to his post the real innovation isn't in the collecting of data at this point it's in analyzing it and applying it to performance -- MVP Machine stuff.
  3. This season is ending with a stale piss smell. Just like it started. Just another disheartening year and nobody here is getting any younger. I'm starting to feel that if the Sox don't compete next year they are going to lose the hardcore fans as well. Including myself. The on field play is bad enough. Some of the stats posted today on the forum -- 7 guys below replacement in the everyday lineup, a DH line worse than the Mets pitchers, some of the staff ERAs -- it's just horrendous. In year 3 of a rebuild you should see more green shoots. There''s 1 star on this club, a couple good players, and a couple average players. That's fucking it man. Then you add on the off field horse shit we've been fed with Ricky's rant, the Lisle dustup and so on, it's just, it's tiring man.
  4. Why would we use MRIs and CT Scans and X-Rays to measure disease and diagnose injuries we have LEACHES. fWAR? bWAR? Gimme RBI. Main that shit into my veins bruh. Precision and accuracy? oof. That shit is for scientists and nerds and suckers true Glory is found in rubbing sticks together and hoping for rain. Doppler radar? Climate science? Farmer's Almanac.
  5. If you can't measure something then why would you care about it? How would you even know it when you see it?
  6. numerous studies have shown clutch doesn't exist. it's a small sample bias. But FWIW (and it's not much) here's Jose's: Go figure: it almost perfectly aligns with his career OPS. Those late and close numbers tho ;-)
  7. clutch is REAL GUYZ. I'm back in a 2004 sabermetrics debate I think.
  8. 10% of the OF is covered by Nick and Eloy. The other 90% is gonna be up to Robert!
  9. Neither plan is any good. Puig is a 1.5 WAR true talent with a bad attitude and a propensity of pissing off his team mates. It was fine when he was producing 4-5 WAR seasons. Now he's producing 1-2 WAR seasons. Pass. Easy pass. Leury plan has a fatal flaw -- lack of a suitable utility guy. Yolmer is not getting offered arb (although it would be very Sox like to pay him 6 million next year) and Sox need a primary backup at SS/2B. That guy should be Leury. Find a real RF that can give an 800 OPS or higher. Castellanos might fit the bill.
  10. Yolmer is a great guy that can't hit a lick. Luckily for him he's already made a decent chunk of change and should be able to catch on somewhere next year.
  11. Yea but this year he's only -2.2 runs on the bases :-). I have look at his fangraphs page so fucking much this season it's now coming up right away when I start typing "omar" into chrome. Yikes.
  12. JD Martinez is actually the "premier hitter" that every opposing color guy wants to paint Abreu as. He is as good as it gets bat wise and the Sox should have made an attempt to acquire him.
  13. wRC+ wouldn't be adjusted as it's purely an offensive metric: the fWAR would be about 2 for an 800 OPS DH. Maybe 1.5. I'm really not going to lament trading Narvaez. He's having a career year with the bat and is still only going to finish with around 2 fWAR, if that. The real issue, and this has been an issue for about a decade, is that the Sox simply cannot find and produce league average DHs. It's mind boggling. Even when they attempt to address it via FA it fails miserably.
  14. Madrigal hitting in AA and AAA has been such a pleasant development.
  15. Yea it's incredible how he got through his entire career in pro ball and never learned how to catch the baseball. Of course Abreu has the same issue but at least he's not a catcher.
  16. It's hard to fathom how he plays catcher and is still dinged -.8.3 runs from Fangraphs. Actually no, it's not hard to fathom, we all watched him. He catches the ball like he's sitting on a barge going down a river. Ditching him for McCann (even though McCann was brought in as the backup to Castillo) was a good move and worked out great. Kudos to Hahn most of his trades are pretty good. Of course FA has been a nightmare we all are just waiting to see at this point if he can figure it out.
  17. Figured something like this when I read that: and incredibly that's only like the 30th most hard hit ball in MLB this year.
  18. he was a great starter in his prime. helluva guy to have, always loved having him and like noah he was a guy the other team loved to hate and would often times over react to and get off their game.
  19. MY GOD. Wow. *CRACK*. It's nice having a superstar. Stay healthy Yoyo! I want to see him get to 30 HR this year.
