  1. thank god the fucking British Open started today, although it's over by 1PM pacific time at least it's something. Really annoying that the full schedule of MLB doesn't start until Friday.
  2. I wouldn't listen to Law on Gio, at all. Law had him way ahead of everybody else back when he was a prospect and has never let go of that projection. Law had Gio the top prospect in the game two years ago. LUOLZ.
  3. I would question the process if a player is ready for MLB and they are held back for financial reasons in 2025. In fact I'd wonder what we are all even doing here. Management included.
  4. Making a decision based on something that is likely to change in the new CBA, and even if it doesn't, will impact the club in 7 years -- seems really stupid imo. It's impossible to predict all that will happen between now and then. If Eloy is ready to come up in August he should come up imo.
  5. by bWAR, which likes their defense a bit more, Moncada and TA are both at 2.1. They easily lead the team. The Sox have a lot of shitty players. Moncada and TA are not even close to that.
  6. Not a huge fan of Nolan's writing but he's spot on there. Yoan is a player that traditional stats cannot properly measure.
  7. Sadly the Bulls just matched Zach Lavine so my laugh was a little stifled.
  8. Dave Cameron didn't do the rankings this year they left it to this guy who used to work for the Braves. I can't really quibble with it too much as it's obvious the dude has legit evaluation chops but having Herrera that high just doesn't make any sense. You're talking about a guy similar to Eaton in the absolute prime of his career (26-28), where most of his value is tied up in being a gold glove level OF. That seems inherently risky for various reasons, including injury risk, inaccuracy in defensive metrics and aging. Moncada is 23, and most of value is offensive. Again, I don't think a single GM in the league makes that deal straight up. If they were both 23 I could see a case for it.
  9. Yea the are all really great guys off the court. Spike is a UM legend for his performance against Louisville in the title game. It's too bad Beilein stuck with him too long in the 2nd half. Hopefully GRIII can stay healthy I think he can be a solid 7th 8th man if he can. He's an exciting player. Hope his best NBA moment isn't just that mediocre dunk title.
  10. Ah right on. I didn't end up going to UM (went to a school I could play baseball at that had similar academics) but UM FB has been in my blood since I was about 7 years old and watched Kordell throw that bomb. I still remember the exact moment it happened and my dad trying to console me. overall tho with the title, the Fab 5 and Woodson it was a pretty great time to be a UM fan. Us older millenials have been paying down that debt since Rich Rod however. Ugh. Thank god for Beilein.
  11. You're a ND fan right? One of us is having a bad October this year.
  12. Their list seems bad this year. I don't get it. Some really puzzling decisions. In general they seem way too willing to use projections for some guys (Tatis Jr) and then relying too much on recency bias for others (Odubel Harrara). I don't think there are many GMs that would trade Harrara straight up for Moncada. In fact I don't think there is a single one.
  13. While I agree with most of this Durham managed nearly 30 fWAR in his career and had several years with a wRC+ above 115 (OPS+ under rates him a bit because he's OBP heavy). That said, his best year was 3.9 fWAR. I think we'd all be miffed if that's as high as Moncada ever gets in a single season.
  14. Yea similar talent but Yoan has way more power in that bat. That said, if Yoan has the career Durham had that would be awesome. Ray was a great player. Hall of very good type.
  15. Great article, looks like hiring that guy from the Stros is paying off.
  16. I don't think he even knows what Fangraphs.com is. Which is why I'm sitting here typing at my humble office and he's sitting in some 5 star hotel room at the ASG.
  17. lol, Jose no longer gets access to Moncada's garage as well.
  18. Fangraphs is doing their trade value column this week. Moncada hasn't shown through the first 30-50. I'm not sure he'll be on there this year. Tatis Jr is #39 tho. Devers is #45.
  19. Yea good call, pre injuries Maggs was pretty dynamic.
  20. I'd be kinda amused if I was Yoan and my "All-Star mentor" was sitting 1.6 fWAR below myself.
  21. Just to add on, I don't think Chicago has EVER had a young player like Yoan, at least not in my lifetime. The closest I can think of is maybe young Sammy Sosa?
  22. Yea we had this discussion on another sports forum I post on: it's def February and July for the two worst months. It's pretty much a tie I think and none of the other 10 months can come close. A more interesting topic is what sports month is the best? I am partial to March I think. I can see an argument for October. I fold early April (Masters) and start of MLB season into March in my rankings. That said, I think that from March 1st to say April 10th is the best 40 day stretch, slightly surpassing the 40 day stretch from mid Sep to late Oct when CFB, NFL, and MLB are all going.
  23. hopefully package shields and soria together to find a Rutherford like deal. It's amazing but James Shields has actually been a corpulent 4th/5th starter this year. Kudos to the dude for learning how to pitch with really diminished stuff. The Mariners are an obvious partner. The one kid the M's got, former 1st round pick, the OF who's battled knee injuries, that could be a guy they could realistically target. edit: imma just leave "cromulent" going to "corpulent" in auto correct.
  24. Moncada in July: If I was dreaming and said what would be his ideal and yet realistic line in his prime -- that would be it. Obviously it's not the steroid era anymore and 280/370/520 is about all you can ask out of a middle infielder but man what a July this kid had! SSS but you can dream on it. Overall to be sitting at a 103 wRC and 1.5 fWAR in 70 odd games is hardly awful. I'd say it's downright solid given his youth.
