  1. No kidding. Why is Engel being handed the starting CF job three years running?
  2. I had blocked out that they moved Moncada to 3B and were serious about it. Meanwhile Engel is your opening day CF for the 3rd horse shit year in a row. Fuck this franchise man. Hey maybe by the time he's 30 he'll produce an OPS+ over 80!
  3. I hope you're right. Lucy has pulled the football a few too times on us lately.
  4. we're going to look back with nostalgia at the time we thought missing manny was "rock bottom"...
  5. I love that Deadspin (of all places) has a huge Sox fan on staff that shits on the Sox every chance he can. It's one of the few relevant national media places that has a Sox fan on staff and they use it to troll the club at every turn. Why not, they deserve it. White Sox Send Good Player to Minor Leagues
  6. Where we ever in on that guy?
  7. Remember when IDing pitchers and keeping them healthy was a strength?
  8. So, to actually respond to the topic: this doesn't make any sense financially. Sox would be taking on way too much risk for a guy that although on a "star path" isn't a star yet and may not ever be one. Why in the world would they commit 100 million to a guy to get what, two more years of control? Doesn't seem like a smart bet IMO. Now, if they wanted to revisit this after he puts up a big rookie campaign and sweeten it with 50+ million on top of the 100 million I'm fine with that because Eloy would have proven he can hit MLB pitching and would be due some big raises in ARB after his first few seasons. On a side note, I can't fucking believe people are freaking out about his 26 spring training AB. You serious? You're serious? Spring training is WORTHLESS. How many fucking times do we have to go over this?
  9. Still don't think it's easy. I'd like to see a larger sample before any drastic, game altering changes are made. If in 5 years the game is now 80% TTO then fine, make some fucking changes. We ain't there yet and things in baseball have a way of levelling off without rules changes historically -- granted with fairly high water marks for various styles.
  10. I haven't even gotten the bounce. I'll probably get it opening day tho. I feel badly for Fegan. I know he's getting paid but man, what a depressing team to cover outside Eloy.
  11. Kinda hard to believe the season starts for real in a few weeks. I almost felt like the season was cancelled after the Manny news but I guess they have to play 162 games anyways. How many any of us will watch however...
  12. ever try to consistently get a bunt down on a guy throwing 95 inside? If it was easy, they'd have already made the adjustment. For a right handed batter a drag bunt down the 3rd base line is one of the hardest things to execute in baseball. Lefties have it a bit easier but still not easy. I think many of these rules changes are fucking stupid honestly. Moving the mound is a NON STARTER. It's like moving the height of the basketball hoop. You can't do it. I don't even know why they are making these Indy leaguers do it. The only change I like is having a robo ump and maybe the three batter limit. Again, banning where guys can stand defensively? That just doesn't make any sense man. It's against the spirit of the game as it's been played for over 100 years now.
  13. If none of the prospects acquired in the Eaton, Sale and Q trades shows out at the MLB level this year then it's not a "rebuild" it's just an incredibly awful club with no future, no present, and very little past. By not committing any money to Manny the club has doubled down on their existing management, major and minor league talent, and overall organizational position within MLB. This is a bottom tier franchise (bottom 5 easily at the moment) with an uncertain future. It's hard for us fans to keep caring and supporting them given that no, this is not "rock bottom" -- rock bottom would be starting over in 2022 after the failure of the rebuild. There is not enough evidence lately to say that things will get better. They can easily get worse.
  14. That about covers it. I think SSS is done, whatever remains will just be a corpse, anybody halfway good enough to dig it out doesn't want to work with Vox.
  15. it's an incredibly rare trait in a slugger to not get pull happy on pitches like that and really what allowed frank (and hopefully eloy) to hit for such a high average with power. the pitch recognition and plate awareness and hand eye and raw power of Eloy is very, very similar to Frank. Not the same batting eye, few except an elite inner circle of HOFers had Frank's eye, but Eloy can hit for more power given the emphasis on launch angle these days. If Eloy doesn't have at least one 300/600 season I'd be shocked. He'll have an iso of .300 and a BA of .300 in his career at least once. In fact I'd put the over under at 3 of them.
  16. thought the same. you don't see many guys that can flick a middle out breaking ball into the stands when they let it get in on them like that. it was a shitty breaking ball but still, impressive raw power and coordination/approach.
  17. well that's true but he's a Mariner now! They have about the same level of MLB development through the last decade as our Sox. Ackley, Zunino, and so on. They get credit for Seger I guess but he kinda sucks now as well. Got old quick.
  18. It's funny I heard a report out of spring training for the Mariners here that said they were working with him on keeping his mitt still and receiving the ball. Good luck. If it was easy to fix, he would have fixed it years ago. I like Narvaez, his bat plays, but his receiving problems make him ideally suited to a backup role twice a week with veteran pitchers.
  19. In case anybody wants to feel extra worse: @JeffPassan For some context on how incredible the response in Philadelphia has been to the Bryce Harper signing: In the first 24 hours after the launch of his jersey, according to @Fanatics, Harper's No. 3 sold more than LeBron James' Lakers jersey did the first day. Coulda been us with Manny but nope penny smart pound foolish ownership.
  20. other than about 20 points of wRC+ you're spot on!
  21. So did Tony Snell. And countless others. Flashes don't mean much when you're literally the 2nd worst player in the NBA and grouped with other horrific players like Stauskas.
  22. http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/13 Hey, at least he's not Kevin Knox! Another "high upside" rookie having one of the worst seasons of all time. Yikes.
  23. You seem like a badly wounded Thibs and Butler fan.
  24. Seattle and the White Sox are the most similar franchises in MLB. They are two sides of the same coin.
  25. GarPax have an actual org strength: drafting. What can KenHahn hang their hat on? Used to be keeping guys healthy, in particular pitchers. Not so much anymore. I'm a huge fan of the Bulls as well as the Sox and as much as I've b****ed and moaned and argued that GarPax should have been fired last offseason it's clear that right now GarPax are better at their jobs than KenHahn. GarPax have done a good job correcting their mistakes and being proactive lately. Firing Hoiberg mid-season (a bold move) and then trading for Otto by dumping a solid draft pick before he got expensive (Bobby) and a bad FA mistake (Jabari) was a great course correction and an admission of mistakes. Right now the Bulls look like one of 3-4 young teams (Atlanta, Chicago, Sacramento, Mavs) that are young and exciting and have room for growth. Only the Mavs out of that group have a guy that looks like a superstar (Luka) but you could see Lauri or Lavine taking that next step and getting there. You gotta draft well and they do that for the most part. Bulls have: Lauri (21) Lavine (23) Porter (25) WCJR (19) Lotto pick (likely top 5) That is a great collection of young talent and assets. They'll need some luck with growth but they've put themselves in position to become a 50 win club with another good offseason and then from there it just depends on if one of those guys can turn into a top 10 superstar.
