If he comes with a new deal attached or a heavy discount sign me up. If the Sox want to cash out on Anderson I'll miss the guy but it's not like his upside is that high. Cubs just signed Smyly to a two year deal. He'll miss the season after electing to have Tommy John.

I really don't think the options are "trade him now or sign him now". I think this might be a good time to wait on more data. More data about the 2018 club and more data on how Jose is going to age. Of course, if you get bowled over in an offer do the deal. Steven89 makes a good point: I think Jose wants his next deal to be his last. I don't think he's going to settle for a 5 year extension. I'm thinking he wants at least 6 and probably some vesting and mutual options as well. Maybe even a damn opt out. There's a lot of moving parts here. Hopefully Hahn can figure it out.

The Sox now project to have the #11 catching combo next year. Not bad, position will probably be an asset instead of a weakness for once.
