In the roid era Delmonico would have been a 30 jack a year guy.

Someone was b****ing that he should have been more aggressive trying to steal. I'm with you. There's no need to pull him and there's no need to be going balls to the wall with a sore ankle.

Man there is a lot of room in that St Louis outfield. Kinda get used to the smaller power alleys of GRATE.

Yea he's rounding into form with his command and breaking stuff. I think we should probably give up on the idea that he's a 94-95 mph guy. He's a 90-92 mph guy with (in theory) really good off speed stuff with a tough plane for hitters to get a look at with his height. That hopefully will make him an effective 3-4 starter for the Sox.

Now that was a Gavin Floyd curve ball. Nasty.

Narvaez is a slug. I'd almost rather see Kevan Smith as the backup.

That's penny smart and pound foolish thinking. Nobody is saying "don't try". What we are saying is there's no reason to treat this like game 7 of the world series. It's May, he's 22 and has battled some minor lower body injuries. The club is not competing this year. Don't push him too hard.

There's almost no reason to push Moncada on the bases this year. When they are competing for something, sure, but this year there's no reason to risk injury having him steal very often.

Cardinals crew was really talking up Giolito last night. I think they will be a bit surprised to see how diminished his stuff is right now. Prove my prediction wrong please. Man it's a really fucking nice day here, one of those perfect PNW mornings with the smell of the ocean in the air and the bright mid spring sun burning off the marine layer before it can form. I really want to just smoke a joint and watch this game on the 50" at my office. Instead I'll have to work and watch the game.

Looked like he was trying to go oppo against the flame thrower late and just didn't make good contact. Still it was encouraging to see him battle and not strike out. I don't know if he can maintain a 140 wRC+ with a 37% K rate but it's going to be a fascinating watch. Would have liked to see him make that tough play up the middle last night but like TA sometimes he rushes when his athleticism gives him more time then he realizes. You would think that's something that will come with repetition.

I mean he's right tho. They have no dedicated Sox guy anymore.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
He's officially injury prone. If it's not one thing it's another with him. It always sorta annoyed me when he'd talk in interviews about "needing the legs at 100%" (I mean maybe he's correct) but as a fan that's not what you want to hear. I believe him though, his speed underpins his entire game. From his defensive value to his BABIP and OBP. He's got a bone bruise I guess. Not good. Painful injury. Hassan Whiteside tried to play through one in the NBA this year and then was shelved for about a month. Hahn absolutely aced his extension and both Eaton trades. Bought low and sold at absolute peak.

The Cardinals and their fans are some of the most sanctimonious, holier than though fucks in the game, your family notwithstanding. I always enjoy watching them play the Cubs because I know one fan base will go ape.

First game thread in 10 years and it's a James Shields start. I'm sorry man. Better luck next decade.

Hansen and Robert updates
Yea just wanted to post it as an example of how the repair usually goes. In general it's amazing how much progress has been made in sports medicine just since 2003. Not only with this injury but almost all of them. My own injuries would have been handled so much more conservatively even 10 years ago and I would have probably never gotten back to where I am now without the more aggressive timetable. After the patella tendon repairs up until about 2012 or so it was SOP to have a full leg cast for 6-8 weeks! I was using the walker at 1 week (despite two torn tendons), was walking in the braces no walker at 2 weeks (amazed my surgeon at the two week followup) and was using the rowing machine and cycling at weeks 4-8. It's a great time be alive if you get hurt playing sports.

of course he had surgery! pro athlete, torn thumb ligament, get that shit repaired by a great surgeon and get back in the game. it's not a big deal at all though. As far as injuries go this is about a 10/10 for both repair and recovery success. As ptac said this timetable is normal and indicates no setbacks with infection or anything else. here's the surgery and rehab procedure: https://xnet.kp.org/socal_rehabspecialists/ptr_library/04WristandHand Region/26Hand-ThumbUlnarCollateralLigamentRepair.pdf There was never any reason at all to worry about his recovery. Hansen on the other hand...I was waiting for the inevitable "has scheduled tommy john" or "has scheduled exploratory surgery" or "has no timetable for his return". It's great news that he's feeling healthy enough without intervention to start throwing. Of course he's not out of the woods yet but this is a good first step. Same with Rodon's progress.

Anderson to CF?
Lillian what I meant WRT to Frank and the media is that at the time he was playing, at least earlier in his career, Frank didn't get any "points" from the media for being clean. Everybody was "clean" or nobody cared if they weren't until Sosa and McGuire did their thing and McGuire was pictured with the andro bottle (now an illegal substance but it wasn't at the time). Until the cover was blown off the Steroid Era Frank was mostly seen as a grumpy, standoffish "asshole" with the media. Later in his career and as a HOFer the narrative changed on Frank and a lot of the same media types that didn't like him now praised him for "respecting the game" or whatever. It's all a bunch of nonsense imo (media narratives that take on a life of their own) but I'm glad that Frank had some redemption with the media late in his career and as a HOFer. And hell, now he gets paid to pitch legal supplements every other commercial break on the sports radio dial...! FWIW I never heard any racism at Comiskey directed at Frank. Maybe he got it more on the road or maybe I was too young to really be listening. I do not doubt that he experienced some racial abuse during his career.

I like that girl in your avatar. I reverse image searched her and found her IG. She's a THOT, but she's cute. Anyways, the demographics of baseball have changed dramatically and as a white dude I lament that there are less blacks in the game then when I was a kid. I dunno, it's probably a racist thought of mine but black players just have more charisma most of the time imo. It surprised me to to see folks talk about big frank and racism. has frank ever spoken about it? I was too young to really understand it but man Frank was just a hero to me. I always though Bonds got treated poorly because he was a surly black. I guess frank probably did too. one thing I think the media (overall, now) appreciates about frank is that there was never a whiff of roids around him. that probably wasn't a factor at the time he played, at least for the most part.
