  1. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) The payroll was around $85 mil this year, as the BR figures does not include the contracts traded away. The Sox will spend money to bring the payroll back up to around that range, we just don't know which direction they want to go with this, i.e. buying low on Masterson and others or bring in James Shields The reality of course is that if the Sox's current payroll is just under $65 million with a Quintana bonus in there, and the payroll is going to move up to ~ $85 million, the argument against James Shields is that they're not going to sign just James Shields and leave no money to do anything else. Since Shields probably will be above $15 mil per, that's your message right there
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) It has a bigger screen. EDIT: That's literally it on my end. I'll have to play with both, but I see no reason I wouldn't want the bigger screen. Also, that likely means a bigger battery and definitely more storage. I can give myself reasons why I wouldn't want it. Took me a while to get used to the current level of pocket space. Would be even harder to use at the gym. Extra money. That said, if it made doing something like working on an airplane easier, I might consider it. I haven't bought an iPad yet because I haven't reached a point where that was worth it, but I know I'm upgrading phones this fall, so that's my debate. Anybody else have a feels on this? If I could pile up benefits to the larger screen maybe I could make the case to myself.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) I'm making the switch. iPhone 6 Plus, here I come! Steve or anyone else, I already know I'm upgrading this fall, can someone sell me on the benefits of the "plus" sized phone as compared to the smaller one? I'm several years behind on the model I currently have so either size will be an increase for me. What types of things do people use the plus sized one for? Are we simply talking about movies/TV streaming or what else can be done?
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) A lot easier to eat Danks salary if you have a cheap replacement. This was why Keppinger was let go. Eating Danks salary is fine if Noesi or Rodon can take his spot. If you have to spend another $10M to fill the 5 spot then there is a problem. The problem is that Noesi and Rodon can't take that spot, we still need 5 starting pitchers. Right now, we have Sale and Quintana, next year add in Rodon and Noesi, and Danks still is the 5th spot. Right now, Rodon would take Carroll's spot in the rotation, so we'd still need to spend money to find a replacement for Danks. This logic is why I can't see the White Sox spending big on a FA pitcher in the offseason; as long as Danks is there, i struggle to see them spending big money to replace him.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Didn't take long did it, Balta? Conveniently there's even an in-post timer.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) iPhone 6 reveal today, apple fans rejoice, droid fans mock. Lol QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:19 AM) It took Apple long enough to finally invent NFC.
  7. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) This. I don't think there is a team in baseball that would be upset over getting 160-170 innings of a 4.28 ERA out of their 5th starter. One problem...there's a guy being paid a lot more money to put up a 5.12 ERA.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Jack the Ripper ID'd? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/08/j..._n_5784316.html Or the guy has a book to sell through that paper's publisher.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Valpo+ND+Cubs=puke I have never agreed with you more.
  10. Assuming I'm still here I can catch 2 road games in June. Wooo.
  11. The one thing about signing BMac that would make sense is that you're almost guaranteed to have an opening for Rodon within a reasonable portion of time.
  12. A Fox & Friends laugh line on the Ray Rice video: "I think the message is take the stairs".
  13. QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) You can take what I said however you want, I think I made it pretty clear that Ray Rice was in the wrong and you shouldn't hit a woman, much less anyone really. You could have said that without the comment to her being "annoying".
  14. QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) What I saw in the video. Doesn't mean Ray Rice is justified in what he did. Point is, people are making a bigger deal about Ray Rice over the guy who killed someone and for some reason will be back on the field and playing this season. Sorry, you can be disgusted by Rice all you want but its not even close to the Josh Brent thing. But you kinda did justify it, you said she was annoying. The only role that word serves in that sentence is to offer some justification.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) It wasn't too bad. I'm sure he could have gotten away with some half - assed apology letter. I think he just wants to cash in now. They probably had a general "Shut the **** up" message go out to the NBA owners after the Clippers mess so their tolerance for this is probably pretty low right now.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) Only if you go under pool with that top pick. Otherwise it has zero, or even a negative effect, like we saw with Rodon. Rodon actually cost us money we could use for later picks. BUT...it also helps you in having a larger international pool, and it could also help you, for example, by signing a guy who you pick in the 3rd slot in the draft who probably should have gone #1 but fell because idiots.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) This is the worst part about it IMO. The team had a press conference where she apologized for her "role" in the incident. Are you kidding me? This is pretty common stuff in the event of an abusive relationship, btw. The team and the league are the ones who are supposed to be smarter than that and realize how that will come off to the rest of the world. The commissioner shouldn't have met with her regarding the punishment and citing her statements in why he came to his conclusion regarding the suspension length was a clear statement that the league took no steps to understand domestic violence prior to making their call.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) There were a lot of Bills fans at the game yesterday surprisingly. It's a 16 game season and I'm not the type to overreact over one game, but looking at the schedule, that's a game the Bears needed to win. Gonna make it that much tougher to win enough to make the playoffs, unless Shea destroys Rodgers again in 3 weeks. That loss was all on the offense. Given our expectations, the defense wasn't THAT bad yesterday. Other than Jared Allen. Overall, giving up
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) Is there an ignore feature on this message board? Seriously though. Yes. If you click on the name of the person to go to their profile there is an "ignore poster" option somewhere on that screen.
  20. They just showed the flags blowing in the breeze at Wrigley during the Pirates broadcast and there was a quadcopter drone hovering near them.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) AWFUL Cutler. Awful. Awful. It can't be that easy to see a 300+ lb nose tackle.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Hammy for Alshon. Yuck. Jeffrey's return listed as "probable". He's been seen riding a bike on the sideline.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) Not a fan of what's going on with Marshall right now. Also, why did Alshon disappear? Jeffrey went to the locker room like a half hour ago with some injury.
