  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) What's our record since DeAza has been out? I assume not good. I just tuned in. I assume Jake is sucking. Nice game, Jakester. 7-3 in our last 10, 7-6 in our last 13. When did he go out?
  2. You know all those compliments on Wise playing shallow? There it just gave up a run. De Aza catches that.
  3. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) Add to that that it's very hard to unseat an incumbant, the last two who did it were charismatic candidates with Reagan and Clinton. You need to be likeable and Romney just isn't it. He is the GOP's John Kerry... But...both of those elections also happened during times of economic duress.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) I can tell you right now being here in Missouri, that seat is gone. Hell, whispers around here are that if democrats make a strong enough push, Romney could lose Missouri (which would be very unexpected). Poll just came out today showing it 46-45 I believe.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) Most important series since 2008? Only because we got our tails handed to us in the most important series of 2010.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) If we can increase the distance between us and the Tigers... I think we could see a few more starts by guys like Axelrod and possibly Rienzo. Rienzo is not getting added to the 40 man this year.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) Didn't help either that half the WR core (Hello, Devin!) ran the wrong routes. Like it or not, that winds up at the foot of the OC as well. If he can't coach the guys he has, then he needs to have the GM get him guys who he can work with.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) OK, then let him start every 5th day but pull him after 1 inning. Keeps his innings count down. If they were going to do this, the right answer was to be proactive and sit him for a start a month back from April on. Like the Sox have done with Sale.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) Dont you think Martz should have recognized that? You cant use a playbook designed for top 10 players at all offensive positions if you dont have top 10 players at all offensive positions. That is my biggest criticism of Martz, KYP. Yes. And that is why he's gone. Doesn't necessarily mean that he's wrong on the "audible" issue, but it does mean that he was at the least failing to do his job, and that he deserved to be replaced.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) Why not shut him down now and save those 2-3 starts for the playoffs? Shutting a guy down for >1 month and then restarting him doesn't seem like a very easy thing on the arm either.
  11. There's discussion on this in PHT as well. Not only did he never really earn a callup, his numbers have fallen off badly the last couple years. K/9: 2010: 10.4 2011: 7.6 2012: 5.7 At the same time, his BB/9 has gone up, not down.
  12. Fan falls to death due to "horseplay" on an elevator at Houston's Reliant stadium.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) QBs are taught to read defenses the same way defenses are taught to read offenses. How many times did we see the last few season the bears get totally blown up at the line or Cutler get destroyed because the defense knew what they were going to do? The Giants game specifically, you could tell they knew what was coming, and Jay had no choice but to take it. The QB needs to trust the coordinator of course, but the coordinator should also trust the QB to make a change when necessary in order to save his ass My response here is: "the Bears getting totally blown up was the other big failing of Martz's system: assuming he still had a vintage 2001 Orlando Pace on his O-Line".
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Not agreeing or disagreeing, but would love to know your reasoning for that. Having seen him, I'd say it's effectiveness of secondary stuff. I wasn't completely sold on it...but then again, I saw him coming right off of the suspension, so it's not terribly shocking that his offspeed stuff didn't have crisp control. In terms of the other big thing for a starter, maintaining velocity through 100+ pitches, even from a short outing I have good confidence in him doing that. He didn't throw quite as hard as Castro did a few days later, but both of them maintained velocity quite well.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) The Afghanistan part was just baffling. Not as baffling as lecturing an empty chair, but still baffling. He seems to think that Obama time-traveled to 2001 as President and decided to invade Afghanistan. And he thinks Romney wants to bring the troops home "tomorrow morning" instead of at some pre-determined date in the future. Didn't anyone vet this speech to see if it made any god damned sense at all? They had this guy vet the speech:
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 11:59 PM) Barring bookers injury being bad he better be on the team over allen. Its going to be so nice that the bears will audible now. I still cant believe Martz's stupid idea. I'm not sure he's wrong and that audibles aren't vastly overrated, if you have a well designed playbook. Not allowing audibles probably is a pretty decent strategy...if you have a QB that really trusts his coordinator. Defenses at this point do such a good job of disguising their packages on 90% of the plays that if you're audibling out because of something you see before the snap, that setup probably isn't what the defense is doing anyway. But...the QB has to be able to trust the coordinator and the system. If the QB thinks a run would work better than the called pass, he needs to know that he can still get the ball out and have the receiver open where he's supposed to be. If the QB doesn't trust that, then he's going to get frustrated if he can't switch the play.
  17. A couple of those random details that are sometimes interesting have come out in the last 2 days. First: That's an impressive statement. And 3: Link
  18. By the way, the Nats have made it official, Stras has 2-3 more starts before being shut down for the year.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 07:02 AM) i forgot about your intense huntsman loathing I know, that role was such a downgrade from Thor. He even had to deal with that Stewart girl's "acting".
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 08:02 AM) And btw whose idea was it to have Clint Eastwood give a speech? One of his key points was the war in Afghanistan and yet he apparently has no idea his candidate wants to stay there longer. Second he did an ad for Chrysler, a bailed out auto manufacturer that has actually been a success story, then condemned the bailout while giving a speech for a guy who TOOK a bailout. Everyone knows that all hollywood elite are Democrats, so it's still exciting when the Republicans have one they can use.
