  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) What's Cabrera hitting in high leverage situations this year? Seems like he reaches base every time from the 6th inning and later. .349/.988
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:50 PM) So Im a little hazy on these rules, after the trade deadline, you can claim a player and attempt a trade for them (if on revocable waivers). I thought you were only allowed to trade players that don't have to go through waivers (non-40 man roster) and/or cash for those claims. I guess I was wrong... If a player is put on waivers, the team claiming him can trade for him under the same rules. If a player clears waivers he can be traded to any team. All of the players in this deal either cleared waivers or got to the Dodgers/Red Sox. Players not on a 40 man roster can be involved in those trades without clearing waivers.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) I was thinking more Isiah Thomas I'd go with Theo Epstein.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) I don't think the 2012 free agent class is stellar, but obviously Boston will have a ton of cash to spend. And the Dodgers are going to have a crazy payroll. That might not even put the Dodgers over the luxury tax. They were stripped to the bones by McCourt.
  5. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) Theo really signed some s*** contracts. But he'll do wonders on the Northside. The only remnant of him in Boston now is Lackey.
  6. Can't tell if that was a run and hit or not, but that was a terrible, protect-like swing by Viciedo.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Balta, where's Flowers against the soft tossing LHP? Forgot the Miracle Gro
  8. Lackey at $15 mil, Lester at $11.6 mil, Pedroia at $10 mil, Bucholz at $5 mil. That plus arb guys and guys like Loney. Ellsbury is a 3rd year arb play next year so add $13 mil or so for him. Picking up all their arb guys will pile that closer to $100 mil, but aside from Lackey, Theos damage is gone.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) Yes, and isn't Ellsbury also a FA? I wouldn't be shocked if they go after Hamilton. The Dodgers seemed like the best fit, but now they might not have room. I also think this move could have a big impact on Peavy's opportunities. I think Matsuzaka's contract ends this year too, as does Ortiz. The only big salary they'll have left is what, Lester?
  10. Wow. Someone tell me how much that clears from Boston's payroll. It has to be nearly $60 million next year right?
  11. Samsung found to have infringed on Apples patents. Will have to pay Apple more than $1 billion, largest patent liability ever.
  12. Verdict has been reached in the enormous Apple/Samsung patent trial.
  13. That would be the most impressive move by any general manager, ever.
  14. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) If that is true, he may the most dense politician evahhhh. Why? We're talking about a guy in his 60's who has already given up his House seat. If he withdraws from the race...he will be unemployed and on the Conservative book/lecture circuit, and probably a regular on Fox. If he stays in the race and loses, he can get all of those things anyway, but if he stays in the race he also has a shot at being a Senator! Look at things from his side alone...where's the downside to staying in?

  16. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) Akin news conference today at 5ish. Hopefully....he gone.....and the R's can regain that seat. Press sources including CNN say he's staying in. However, as one of them is CNN...
  17. One of the SEAL's involved in this raid has a book on it being released in a couple weeks, supposedly on sept. 11. Also has a Sept. 9 60 minutes appointment booked. Fox published his name yesterday. His photo is now appearing as a target on AQ websites. He may also run into trouble with the Pentagon for violating an agreement he signed when he left, regarding Pentagon review of future books.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) and now they're becoming so commonplace we don't even mention the shootings anymore. Some of the people hit today may have been hit by police when they fired back.
  19. Whatever happens this year, it will be the usual KW level of unexpectedness. He'll have money to play around with and more tradeable talent, so it's all up for grabs.
