QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) Guess who was awarded the AGon waiver claim? The newly rich Dodgers, of course. Really, I know that in Boston you can't do something like a KW style partial rebuild, but man, with how that team has gone the last 2 years, the managerial mess, Gonzalez being right in all of that, and having a down season this year/never having his SD power numbers carry over, I'd probably let him walk if I were in their shoes and didn't have to worry about selling tickets.

Willard Mitt Romney, 8/24/12, in Michigan. And the crowd, of course, went wild.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) I believe Joseba Beloki is the only one of those five TDF riders to have never been suspended for doping. Also, I would wager the reason that Lance is backing down is that George Hincapie was going to testify against Lance. Stripping the yellow jerseys this way doesn't lose him his endorsements. Stripping it by exposing him as a fraud costs him more than a few trophies in his case. Can you explain who that is?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 11:07 AM) The VP should explain what "forcible rape" is and why he cosponsored a bill with that language. Why shouldn't the media ask him about his legislative history, especially when it's directly related to a current major story? Wait, what did Biden do?

Make it 10 that were shot in New York.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) After following this campaign, a paragraph like this is hysterically funny. Don't you have people to be firing? I hear you guys like doing that

5 people shot in front of the Empire State Building.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) Yeah, he did phrase it stupidly. No disagreement there. Here's my problem with complaining about his phrasing. Let's imagine the President were to say this phrase: "Now saying I have sex with goats, that's just not fair". Is that poor phrasing? Because you can immediately take that quote, edit it into "I have sex with goats" and run that in an ad exactly the same as was done here. The meaning isn't remotely unclear, the phrasing is fine, if you include the 10 words around the quote. If "accidentally leaving yourself open to quote mining if 10 words are stripped off from an otherwise clear statement" is stupid phrasing, then we've reached a whole nother level of inanity.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) If you look carefully at who has said what, no one has said bad things about this defense. I have seen a few good things about his 2B and 3B defense, and some people who seem non-commital. Goldstein is in the latter category. Also, some of these analyst types (like Goldstein) that are not actually scouts, often tend to ignore or sideline defense considerations, talking purely about offense. Who knows what he meant in that tweet. Not only is it really not easy to judge defense of a single guy based on seeing him only 1 or 2 times...the dude's been moved around a lot, so his defense probably depends on his position.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 07:39 PM) All it takes is one bad start for any of these guys to drop out of contention. Hell, if it wasn't for 1 bad start (the tired arm day) wouldn't Sales ERA be about 0.4 runs lower?

Bowden/Law/Olney rank Sox 21st in Future Power Ratings

Great. After last year is have expected them to say the sox were on the path to being the next Astros. This is a big improvement. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/...ended-for-meth/ Meth as a PED? Why does it have to be performance enhancing?

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Pretty much. Virginia Beach is already taken care of. They have the Wizards. It's 200 miles from Virginia beach to D.C., and 90 miles from Sacto to San Fran.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) I feel the same way. He's as shady as they come. I mean, the guy is an absolute slimebag. As soon as the NCAA starts figuring stuff out about Kentucky, he'll bolt. I can't stand the fact that the NCAA doesn't go after coaches once they leave a program that gets sanctions. It really doesn't make sense. But then again, not much makes sense when it comes to the NCAA. Well, they do give out show-cause penalties so that guys really struggle to get jobs in the NCAA, but a guy can go to the NBA to hide from that (see: Kelvin Sampson). -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) But Sox fans should be rooting for Toronto to beat Baltimore. Tigers bullpen not in horrible shape this week due to lenghty outings by all their starting pitchers. Isn't Fister about to miss a start also?

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) Let's move them to another small market, brilliant! Unless Comcast is just giving them ridiculous sums of money (no numbers mentioned in the article), I have no idea how that makes more sense than some of the Anaheim/other California area ones mentioned in the past. Not sure if I agree, but here's one argument the other way.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) I agree with both you and Balta...if Calipari legitimately thought they'd find something he'd bolt, but his ego is big enough to think they'd never find something. Disagree here. He left Memphis when he knew something would be found. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) I haven't. An individual pitch here or there where he guesses and gets lucky, sure. But this is a stretch of a couple weeks now where I have seen him do it quite a few times. I haven't seen that since 2009. Have you? Yeah, I feel like most of his brief "Tribune article worthy" spurts have featured him spending 2-3 days doubling to right off the fastball away or pulling the inside fastball over the LF fence. We don't see the positive reactions when he turns around a few breaking balls because people are getting him out with the fastball anyway, so when he has those hot streaks it usually is him hitting the fastball.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball...noel-recruiting Kentucky/Calipari recruit investigated for shady recruiting practices? noooooooo waaaaaaaay If Calipari thought they'd find anything serious he'd be in the NBA right now. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:35 AM) Jenks said that the government had nothing to do with 99% of it, which is plainly wrong. And academia is mostly government or government-funded anyway. (Well, that and more and more paid for by college students as the government funding gets cut back).

Great, she'll go to jail for filing a false police report and good work to the police who uncovered it. Do you have a larger point you'd like to make?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) Actually, it is something we haven't seen before, at least not since his rookie season. He his hitting high-velo fastballs hard in play now. He simply was not doing that before. How that will or will not translate into consistent results, I don't know. But it is an important indicator, in my view. I gotta disagree with that. We've seen him turn around fastballs for brief, couple day stretches, more than a few times.
