QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Reed had done a great job of late, and was brought into a pretty easy situation. No warmup is not an easy situation. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 09:27 PM) Good location on that fastball. Gotta be careful with Seager, as he's amazing with 2 outs. Don't worry bout him -

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) That's true, however you'd think they would listen if he advised against it. Even then, if they don't perform someones going to have to be held responsible... And ownership can't get "fired" as easily. Ownership wants playoff appearances and high ratings for the next 1.5 years before te TV deal is up. That's the most important thig for them. 2 playoff appearances would make them more than $250 million on that contract.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) You don't seem to see the other side of the coin... Has Samsungs infringement on Apples patents prevented Apple from getting a suitable reward for their innovations?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 06:30 PM) it was just a sarcastic birther joke. he would have said it about any democrat. Obama's mom was with dudes all across the globe. she could have had Obama anywhere. Because making birther jokes is totally not racially based.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) lol you read so much into nothing. there's a white racist behind every corner, out to get you (even though you're white). Please explain how that "joke" works at any other level than "Obama isn't a real American". It shouldn't matter what race I am for me to be sickened by a guy joking that we should be more suspicious of people who look different.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) Gordon's BABIP is .252 That confirms my theory that when he puts the ball in play, he's got s*** luck. I'd go with that being mostly due to weak, weak contact. Can't people take that a step further and look at Ld/gb percentages?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) Gonzales, Kemp, Ethier and Ramirez is a pretty awesome heart of the order. You figure Beckett should be better in the NL, and if Crawford ever comes near the player he was in TB, Magic is moving Showtime to Chevez Ravine. Are they worth the money? Probably not, but they must have a ton to spend so they are spending it. Boston gets a ton of money to play with, but who will they be able to bring in? There's a cap on the amateur guys. The top free agents are guys like Grienke and Hamilton. Are they the type of guys that work in Boston? I understand why they did what they did. If it were my decision to make, I would have done the same thing, but it may be awhile before it seems you watch everyone of their games again between Fox, ESPN and MLB Network. Dodgers gave up some decent pitching talent here also.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 05:11 PM) Crawford had TJ surgery two days ago. So they are on the hook for a player that will not even contribute this season. Beckett and Punto have seen their best days a long time ago, they will contribute but it wont be anything spectacular. Beckett is actually the guy who could make a big difference for them this year. They just lost Billingsly for a while, they could use some quality in the middle of their rotation.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 11:53 PM) They will, just to prolong it. More often than not, appealing these decisions results in even higher damages...I think this was a terrible decision by Samsung from the get go. They should have just settled with Apple and/or did a cross licensing agreement and paid a small royalty if it came to that. I know this was discussed between Apple and Samsung for years before any of the lawsuits occurred. Apple buys over 3 billion dollars worth of Samsung components every quarter (yes, BILLION)...that's around 12 billion a year in revenue from ONE customer. Since this mess started, Apple...their BIGGEST customer has been looking elsewhere for components. A win or a loss results in a loss for Samsung in this case...which is why I say it was an ill advised choice from the start. They'd have been better off paying Apple a minor royalty instead of not only potentially losing the case (which ended up happening), but losing Apples business. Samsung will be lucky if Apple is still a customer of theirs at all in a year or two, considering how much business they've been giving to LG, Sharp, and other Samsung competitors in place of buying from Samsung in the past year. Even if Samsung somehow wins the appeal, which they probably won't, they're looking at losing upwards of 14 billion dollars worth of revenue a year. This was simply stupid. This ruling also means that Apple owns several basic elements of smartphone design, like the "pinch to zoom" feature and so forth. This could also be really bad for consumers...imagine one company having the patent design on the mouse, or the keyboard.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) that was good and you know it. also please see GOP thread for the rest of my reply. It worked just about as well as Mitt Romney's laugh riot line about how everyone knows white people count as real americans.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) If Viciedo learns to hit right-handers he can have a Carlos Lee-type career. Carlos Lee's usually a -10 or more UZR guy, Viciedo's hanging around -3 already, and he's been in that position for 1.5 years. He hits the same level as Lee, he's already a more valuable player.
-
I can't imagine the Sox have the bullets in their minors to get Upton, and Viciedo wouldn't get through waivers to them.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) They are probably going to have to use a TE/RB to help on the left side of the line. The right side actually did okay. Most good lines do that anyway.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) He is now claiming that the Sox taught Sale a new off-speed pitch (or developed the "lousy" one he had - forget exactly how he put it). Sale's basically throwing the same mix of pitches he came out of college with, although he may be more crisp with them from working with a major league pitching coach. He just didn't need to throw 1 of them the last 2 years. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) I think Hamilton will stay in Texas. That guy has to know any big city high pressure situation is the worst thing for his addiction issues. If his handlers and family and agent dont recognize this, then I believe it will be a swift and dramatic fall. I get that...here's the counter point. Rangers are spending $120 million this year. Right now, assuming they pick up Feldman's option, they're close to...$120 million for next year with the arb guys...and that's with no Hamilton or Napoli. They're going to have to add a ton of salary to keep those guys.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 11:12 AM) My quote was more pointing out the ridiculous about of money that LA is picking up as well as the money they have already picked up. 300+ million? In 2 months? I keep thinking in terms of next year's FA market. This could take the Dodgers out as likely Peavy players, but Boston is now a very likely destination for Peavy, Hamilton, etc.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) per www.mlbtraderumors.com (Boston has a ton of arbitration eligible guys who they're likely to pick up though, so those numbers don't reflect how much they actually have to spend. Ellsbury is even an Arb-3 guy next year, so that's >$12 million even if they don't extend him.)
