  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) Wow, watching Venus may be the most boring thing I've ever seen. One of the scientists here described it as like watching paint dry, except you can't see it happen again for 100+ years.
  2. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) Keith Law mentions Keon Barnum one of the worst picks of last night. Duh.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) This is why I'm in favor of civil penalties for making terrible business decisions. Why do we hold doctors and lawyers to a different standard of responsibility than CEO's and CFO's or Union Chiefs or politicians. If you can show that X person did something outside of the reasonable standard of care in his/her industry, and you were damaged because of it, sue their asses for $. If it were easy to prove malfeasance I think people already get sued. I believe I read a note about potential lawsuits against Corzine this morning, for example. Since no one from MF Global is going to jail despite $2 billion+ being stolen, some civil penalties might at the least be nice.
  4. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) I'd wait until Sale is closer to his arb years just to see how his arm holds up. I'm unclear on Viciedo's contract/arb/FA details but that guy is going to be a stud....he's the one player of the bunch that I wouldn't be at all pissed if KW were to go out on a limb and sign him long-term tomorrow. Dayan Viciedo will be pre-arb for the 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons, then will have 3 arbitration eligible seasons: 2015, 2016, and 2017. If he is not extended, he will be a free agent following the 2017 season. He will turn 29 that offseason if his age is correct.
  5. Did you just argue that "Healthcare for life" is a bad idea?
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 12:40 AM) And someone at I-70 or whatever the Royals fan/blogsite is wants to trade him before he loses his value. Because they have Butler, Hosmer, Moustakas, Gordon signed long term, Cain for CF (when healthy) and then Francouer in RF, and Dayton loves Frenchie! Is Omaha a really good hitters park or in a really good hitters league? These Royals guys seem like they tear up AAA and then none of them come up and rake at that level.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:09 PM) I still miss the doubles machine, walks at a good rate '09 Beckham, but the homers are nice. I'll truly know he's back when I see those things out of him, but I like what I'm seeing from him. Even if he is "on", how can anyone have confidence in what he'll give us 3 years from now if we try to buy out his arbitration years?
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) My bad, I caused the confusion. Mitchell in my sentence should have said Hawkins. Gracias for the correction.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) It is. Thats why I have no idea why Balta is taiking about Mitchell's arm. Your post brought it up?
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) At the same time, why did he choose not to disclose it? Seems pretty stupid since we would all find out about it anyways. If he tells the court about this, he isn't sitting in jail. According to the court, it wasn't just "Refusing to disclose it". They have him recorded talking to his wife on the phone and being vague to the point of almost talking in code, things like talking about "15" as standing in for $150,000 or something like that. THe passport, that's plausibly forgetting to disclose.
  11. If Brent Morel hit .350 the rest of the year with 20 HR's, I wouldn't even think of extending him. Not with a "Back thing". The last guy who I thought it would have been a good idea to give the 8 year extension to was Quentin in 2008. I'm kind of glad that the team did not listen to me. Thus, consider me chastened. Maybe talk about Viciedo at the end of the year. Beckham too inconsistent. Sale too scary.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) Technically he didn't in high school. Mitchell projected to be a pretty good pitcher but his bat is very strong. Thats the only reason you don't hear people talking about him as a pitcher. He would have went top 5 rounds though (which is pretty good in and of itself). Nice slide piece. If Hawkins can go from touching 90 to touching 95+, then we can talk about him having serious pitching potential. What did Mitchell throw?
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) really? Sergio Santos says hi. Sergio Santos "Touches" 98.
  14. Wasn't there a study a few years ago that said "home field/home court advantage doesn't exist at all except in foul calls"?
  15. Whoa, this thing happened today? Man I'm out of it.
  16. No mention of new injury today.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 11:15 AM) No doubt Youklis is a competitor. He will give it his all. But, as stated many times he is injury prone and most likely on his last year or two. You don't trade away major league talent for that commodity. Taking on part of his salary maybe with a A level prospect thrown in, but we have people who can play 3B now so I don't think it is worth it to our Sox to spend money or talent on Youklis. Boston would be better off holding him if they can't get major league pitching or OF help back for him.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 01:56 AM) Looks like Angels figured it out, I think any hope of the second Wild Card spot coming form AL Central is fading away.. AL East and West going to lock it up? The AL east has zero teams right now where the front runners can fatten up their records. That will at least keep the Central teams competitive for the WC if we can beat KC and minny. Minny also autocorrects to ninny. I wanted to note that.
  19. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 03:10 AM) IIRC, he only got good money because of the pending CBA agreement. Most people I trust didn't think he was *that* good. I believe the new international spending limits kik in on July 1 or so, so Soler can still get in before them. Probably also why they want offers immediately, so that he's under contract before this limits kick in.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) I think you're probably right...there's no chance Peavy is going anywhere, we know that. Given their need for RP, I am sure they would target Jones and Kenny would laugh at them...and probably counter with Ohman, and it would be their turn to laugh... To be honest, I really have absolutely no desire to have Youkilis on this team. I agree! Yay!
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) Was just listening to MLB radio with Jim Bowden and Jeff Joyce. A caller called in and asked if the Red Sox would take Floyd back and Bowden said something to the effect of "not to be mean, but do you really want Floyd starting in Boston"? I can understand that perspective because I believe Floyd is a space cadet, but Bowden made it seem as though Floyd has no value whatsoever on the trade market. I have a difficult time believing you throw out the last 4 years of starts for Floyd and only focus on the last 4, but his value is certainly not at its all-time high right now. If I'm really in on Youkillis, I'm probably going to give them the Feathered Serpent and still wonder if I overpayed...not a huge fan of him considering his injury proneness and his declining defensive skills at third. I think Floyd's a pretty rough match for that ballpark as well since he throws a lot of deep fly balls.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) What are the Red Sox looking for? How would the financials work? Hard to say as long as first and last in that division are divided by 3 games. If they're at te bottom come July, salary relief and young guys. If they stay 2 games back, salary relief and MLB caliber pitching would be a likely guess. They couldnt take on a Peavy contract, but they will want something on an MLB roster that fills a need. Thornton is a plausible match.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) My point is Hawk can pop off about the umpires every game the rest of the year, and really all Bud can do is ask him to stop. JR wants him to stop, probably for different reasons than Bud. I suspect JR would think the umpires, although we all know they are above this, may hold a grudge. Bud doesn't want every PBP guy bashing the umpires, and maybe some of it is for umpire safety. I don't know how many MLB games you attend, but they show replays of all controversial plays on boards at every professional sporting event, except one. You will never see a replay of a close call on a board at an MLB park. Well, or at an NFL stadium where the close call went against the home team.
  24. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) WE REALLY NEED A HAWK SOUNDBOARD That one and DJ with "Whatever you do, just don't strap it on" should compose the entire board.
