  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) Not true. From the link I posted: This recent episode, which aired two days after news broke of Lowe's controversial departure as advertiser, continued a downward trend in numbers, not benefiting at all from the added attention. It dropped from a .4 rating in the key demo from the previous week, and fell below the 1-million mark for the first time. It's not true that I didn't hear about it last week? Why I'm downright befuddled, I don't know when I heard about it last week but you tell me that it's not true that the story became a major story this week. Amazing how the discussion on this site only started in the last day or two, I guess that's the message board clock getting confused again. Has someone accelerated the servers to 0.999c?
  2. The House Judiciary committee today adjourned without destroying the internet. This is a good thing, even if temporary.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) CAIR and other Muslim groups didn't seem to have an issue threatening the show 24 when it decided that ONE year out of its entire run, the bad guys would be Muslim extremists. I guess it is only good when applied by one side? I count at least 4 seasons where the bad guys were Muslim extremists. Season 2, Season 4, Season 6, and Season 8.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed...-ratings-272479 Yet it lost more viewers AFTER the Lowe's debacle. The last episode aired 5 days ago and I for one hadn't heard about Lowe's pulling its ads until this week. The publicity boom hadn't started when the last episode aired. However: QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Maybe because the show sucks? Just sayin. This is probably also true.
  5. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) I wasn't referring to the reality show. I haven't seen it either- had no idea it existed, and probably still won't sit down to watch it. I don't like reality tv. It's about the principles behind it, though, along with everything else I just finished editing in that essay above your post (It being Lowe's caving in to the demands of that bigot group). Lowe's is most guilty of giving a hate group a voice. And of making a short-sighted ass backwards business decision. Would you shop at a store that gave in to the KKK's demands? That's what it's about. You went after me hard, very hard, said that: "It hurts me because like you said- too many people either don't care enough, or can't look past their own f***ing noses to look into other culture's and faiths- let alone accept them. They accept the obscenities these jabroni's spew as truth". And yet you don't seem to care about the show either. Like I said, had lowes not done this, no one would have cared about the show, or anything the Florida Family Association or whatever this group is called actually says. By listening to them, they have given this show an enormous amount of free publicity.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) Maybe Reagins will get a GM job real quick. Rios would look like a bargain next to Wells haha Wells was at least coming off a very good season when the Angels did that move. We can't even say that about Rios. He's coming off an historically bad season.
  7. "Not caring about some stupid reality show on TLC" does not equal not caring about or respecting other people's faiths.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) the exact same thing QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) haha i know. i was mostly kidding. Eventually the rules will get so weak that some President (and I won't name a party) will decide to use the rules in some way to weaken opposition at home. We can call this the "Nixon Rule" if we want.
  9. Good work Republicans. They've succeeded in their quest to make sure the country wastes more electricity. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
  10. McQueary did testify, under oath, this morning.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) It's amazing to me that this article frequently refers to the typical White sox prospect as "lots of tools but no now production" whereas a few years ago everyone complained about the sox having too many "good producing but low ceiling" players. No matter which way you go people will complain about them. How about "Lots of tools and highly producing"?
  12. QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Rios I would move with another piece. Dunn and peavy, no. No one will take Rios with any other piece the White Sox can offer.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) There are a lot of risks involved with rebuilding. If players don't work out, then teams are going to be set back 12-18 months any way so Williams may as well take his shot at it because there's real attractive alternative. He was right in 2008, but hasn't really come close since. We'll see if he's right again. Clearly there are just as many risks at going "all in"...except the recovery process from this could take 3+ years because that's how long Dunn and Rios are stuck here for.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) My dream addition to tbe Bulls is Iguodala (I know, it's a reach), he can handle the ball, create for himself and others, has nice size and is a shutdown defender. If we can get him, the Bulls beat Miami. Is there a possibility of getting him at the trade deadline?Hopefully Philly is out of playoff contention and they put Iggy on the trading block Basically, the Bulls would have to give up either Deng, Boozer, or Noah to make the contracts work, then they'd have to give Philly enough for Philly to want the deal to happen. 1st round picks aren't a huge score since the Bulls are at the end of the draft, and neither is the guy from Europe they drafted this year, so they don't have a whole lot of sweeteners, and all 3 of those contracts have several more years on them.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) You say you can get an iphone 3gs for free with a contract. Ok, well you've just signed up for 2 years at a minimum of 50 bucks a month for a cell phone plan and some data. Premium cable costs how much? On top of cable costs? Internet at home? We're not talking about some trivial amounts of money here. We're talking about hundreds of dollars a month towards goods that people don't NEED, regardless if it helps them pass the time in their otherwise difficult and s***ty lives. How F***ing much do you think the cheapest home, wired telephone service costs in this country? You know what's helpful being able to find a job? Being able to receive a call from an employer. And yes, if they went without the $600 a year bill using your numbers for a phone that you can constantly have with you, they could afford to buy private health insurance 1 year out of a decade, if they're not already sick. And if they went without that bill for 10 years, they could buy 1 year at an in-state school. So, tradeoff, 40 years with no phone service and you can send a kid to an in-state college. No wonder it's so hard for people in poverty to ever get out of it in this country.
  16. The problem of course is that if Lowe's hadn't pulled their ads, no one would have heard about this. Or cared.
  17. Christian Bale attempts to visit Chinese activist, is roughed up by Chinese police/security people.
  18. Civil charges but nothing criminal, I assume?
  19. Good morning on the power-broker front for Mittens. Scores the endorsement of South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, has the governor of Iowa (who hasn't endorsed) come out and question Newt's discipline.
  20. This whole piece is a good read, but here's some bits relevant to the current discussion.
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Why does it seem like they are on prime time every week losing by 35 points. Why the NFL thought it would be awesome to give them 3 prime time games is a great mystery. Because it's the only way the local fans will see the games?
  22. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Am I the only one here who wanted no part of Crawford? He's an inefficient ball hogging chucker with horrific shot selection and couldn't defend my grandmother, at least Rip shoots within the offense, he won't take stupid shots like JC and Rip played with those stingy Pistons defense, he's aware of the concept of playing D, same can't be said of Crawford. This is kinda my feeling too...although some people say that Crawford has gotten better in that regard over the last couple years.
  23. QUOTE (Nunnigan @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Doubt it, Nolan uses very little CGI in his movies. So he actually turned a city upside down for Inception?
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) I would think after either Gio goes, or BB frustrates someone with his demands, Danks or Floyd will go next... I'm going to hope you're right...but at least compared to a week ago, the ticking of the clock in the background is getting louder.
