Unless they rebuilt it exactly as before, somehow San Francisco survived. It was later attacked by the Romulans in the 23rd century (universe B) and the Breen in the 24th century (Universe A)

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) No I didn't. For some odd reason we haven't been getting all of the media coverage of this event... Freedom bombs aren't as exciting as they once were.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
Military airpower has done its usual bang-up job of forcing regime change on a country in the midst of a civil war. You realize that Tuesday marked 4 months of bombing?

Somehow I don't think you're going to like the 21st century. That's when World War 3 happens. 600 million dead.

Financial News
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) I agree: http://online.wsj.com/article/declarations.html If you're actually serious about deficit reduction (no one is), then the gang of 6 plan should be laughed at. Virtually all of its deficit cuts, as Ms. Noonan notes...are things left up to unnamed bipartisan committees to decide. Why does it do this? Why, the answer is ridiculously simple...because no Senator, Congressperson, or President wants to be the one who has his/her name attached to cutting a popular program in his or her district/state. This is a hard and fast rule; if you have a military base in your district, for example, you don't offer it up, you protect it like your job depends on it, because it does. By leaving the actual cuts up to unnamed committees of Senators to come up with...the Gang is doing exactly that...they're saying "We need to cut this much but we're too scared to actually come forwards and say the things that we need to cut because we'll be out of a job." So, they're punting to hypothetical committees in the future. The dumb part is...Hypothetical future committees will have the exact same problem. We see this happening right now with the teaiest of the tea party. They send letters to Obama demanding that he come up with trillions of cuts, so that they don't have to take the hit themselves. Or they vote for jokes like a balanced budget amendment...so that they don't have to take the hits themselves. No one cares about cutting the deficit. They care about making the other side take the blame for the cuts. Its right there in the "Gang of 6" proposal, and in the "Cut cap and whatever" proposal, and in just about every other proposal out there.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) I predict that Dayan Viciedo will be up with the team sometime - I am going out on a limb here I know. The Padres agree, he'll be up with them as soon as KW agrees to the deal.

Driving from Chicago to New Jersey
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) Ohio is not much better. They line up the cops on the overpasses, and hide very well along the toll road. I caught a cop doing that in Kentucky while on my trip a couple weeks ago. Of course, then there was the part where I was listening to a Braves game in GA, a cop wrote in wishing the Braves well and saying he was watching on I-75, the announcers asked "Where", and a couple innings later the cop tweeted back with 2 exit numbers that they were covering. I laughed.

Quit pretending. Trekkies know that by the 22nd century laser-based weapons were out of style.

2011 NFL Lockout Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) But wasnt it the same deal they negotiated with DeMaurice Smith? Since DeMaurice Smith is essentially the players representative at the negotiating table (same as the owners having reps at the table), then they passed a plan that the players rep approved. It's not the owner's that fault Smith didnt give the players all of the details yet. PLEASE correct me if I am wrong. I think the short version is that they approved a deal that had all the elements of things they'd talked about with Smith, but that Smith hadn't agreed to, and that Smith hadn't seen until something like an hour before the actual vote.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Ill take just Fukudome to be honest. His OBP would be hella nice. I have little to no interest in adding OF's under any conditions right now. I'd rather see what the 2-3 guys we have who are next in line can do if we move people. Be a lot cheaper at least.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) The bullpen faded last year, I think they don't want it to fade this year as appearances pile up. It all may be moot if they don't start winning some games. A bad weekend this weekend and the season could be over. A good one, and they will amazingly be right there. A sweep would be devine. The sad thing is though...upgrading the bullpen right now most likely means replacing a guy with a 2.30 ERA. Yeah, he can't keep that up with his 1.56 WHIP, but Bruney would be the guy to swap out, and he hasn't been bad. (Unless we sell off a starter)

QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) Buerhle doesn't throw to him and he has had words with Peavey. Really? I'm pretty sure that was only true in 1 or 2 seasons.
