2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) Lets not use logic here. Actually though, it was 2 walk-ons that were left. Taber and Finklemeyer. LOL, so in my google searching I missed a walkon. Oops. (Seriously, I could have swore I found a roster list showing 1 walkon and 1 sophomore/scholarship guy).

What was your favorite Jeff Marquez highlight?
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) The Yankees may see the benefit of his development with the White Sox, he's pitched better this year than the previous two years. The last 2 years he's been hurt.

Official 2011 MLB Draft - Day 3
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) One has to think his father's clown act last year has done him no favors for other teams thinking about drafting him. That's probably the only reason.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Not that easy to sell when your program hasn't won a title since years before the kids they're recruiting were born, and your coach has a grand total of one Conference Title and one NCAA Tournament that lasted past the first weekend. And it's pretty hard to do more than that in your first 4 years when you start with a loss of a scholarship, 3 years of recruiting sanctions, and a roster consisting of 1 sophomore and a walkon.

6/8 GT - SOX vs Mariners - 7:10pm CSN
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) Ya gotta love the protection Ozzie likes to give his best hitter, Paulie. First AJ, now Rios. Though, admittedly, he lacks options, and we can't complain with the overall performance of our 1-4 lately. AJP has looked slightly less helpless in RBI situations this year, which is a pleasant surprise, but why would Paulie get ANYthing to hit tonight? Because sneaking a fastball by Paul Konerko is like sneaking a sunrise past a rooster.

Official 2011 MLB Draft - Day 3
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) Question...Why is the MLB draft so many rounds? Is it just to provide depth for your rookie leagues and A ball? How many of these super late draft pick even play pro at all? 50 rounds just seems like a lot. Mike Piazza was a 62nd round pick.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Everyone on the starting roster, currently, with the exception of Ortiz, Bautista, and Hamilton (who doesn't deserve it) are Yankees. I didn't even have to look up updated totals in order to make that initial post.

Strained right groin for Jake Peavy
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Sure, as long as he gets to face lefties. He actually did quite well in that outing against the LH-heavy opening of the Tigers lineup. 123 inning when he first came in. Unfortunately, since we had no other pitcher to use as a long man, he then got to face Miguel Cabrera, who is not only a righty but is a moderately good one.

OBviously you've invented a new keyboard.

Maybe I was a bit slow on the "Damn I'm stupid" edit there.

Strained right groin for Jake Peavy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) As opposed to having Will Ohman pitch a meaningful game because Chris is out... It is a chance I am willing to take. Like when Ohman came in after Peavy had already given up the runs?

Strained right groin for Jake Peavy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) He is way too valuable to get burned for three days at that point. But he's barely getting used every 3 days.

Let's all call tex old while he's not looking.

Strained right groin for Jake Peavy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) You also lose your most dependable lefty for days if you try to make him go into 3 innings of work. He never gets used as a "Most dependable lefty" though. When we need our "Most dependable lefty" Thornton gets the inning.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Oh I understand the competition, but I just looked and to me Konerko has clearly been the 3rd best 1B this year behind Miggy and AGon. He has better numbers than Tex mostly across the board. So with the assumption they take three 1B, IMO he deserves to be one of them. Unfortunately, Tex is currently ahead of the fan vote.

The environment thread
This has been a pretty good day for power plant news. GE has announced that they're going to build a hybrid power plant in Turkey...hybrid in the sense of "Wind/Concentrated Solar Thermal/Natural Gas backup" capable of running 600,000 homes. A plant in NYC is also about to open using a new type of electricity storage technology that might well revolutionize electricity storage if its employed on a large scale...basically they're building giant turbines that work just as well as batteries of the same size and can react to changes in grid supply on a timescale of seconds (normal gas generators take minutes to fire up, coal plants take hours). Of course, the bad news is that they've doubled the estimate of the quantity of radiation released by the Fukushima plant.

Strained right groin for Jake Peavy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) in the 3rd or 4th inning? He isn't your long man. He is a set up man. He's the closest thing to a long man in this pen, he's the guy they typically give 2 innings to, and he's a former starter. I'd have tried to coax 2+ innings out of him if I could.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) You go ahead and roll the dice if the Yanks offer Montero for a 29 year old journeyman. It'd never happen. We all know that. But we also know that if you offered up a random guy who was a legit prospect but unlikely to be a star, you'd never move Humber for him right now.

Strained right groin for Jake Peavy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) With Marquez having been sent out, and the the fact you weren't going to use Santos, Thornton, Sale, or Crain in that situation, you were down to having to choose between either Bruney or Ohman if Jake came out. It could very well be a question of does Peavy with a pull hurt his team more by being in there, or by allowing these guys to pitch multiple innings. Why couldn't you have used Sale there?

Sox Draft OF Keenyn Walker with #47
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Can you imagine the absolute fecal storm that this would cause if it were a WHITE manager's son making this ridiculous statement? What a f'n tool. Hopefully if he had the same record of statements that Oney has...it would just provoke the exact sort of groans being given out here.
