  1. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 6, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) IMHO, Torrealba and/or Martin >>>>>> AJ. I would have signed Torrealba in a heartbeat. Martin too. No one has thought of Torrealba as a full time player since his career started, most he's ever caught is 105 games and he has a career .705 OPS. AJ regularly catches 130+ games, has a .744 career OPS, and his .688 OPS in a terrible year last year was only .017 points worse than Torrealba. Russell Martin's OPS the last 2 years was .680 and .679, worse than last year's AJ, and he only caught 97 games in 2010 due to health issues. He's also being paid $4 million this year (AJ is getting $2 million this year and $6 million next year, averaging to $4 million). People would have laughed had we signed either of those guys and declared them to be our starting C.
  2. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ May 6, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) Yay, why thank you.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) MIght be a bad idea, but, how would it be illegal? Recalling the tax credits given out when Boeing jumped their HQ to Chicago, for example.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 6, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Yeah. I'd be more than happy to give Carlos a game off or two at this point. Would a game or two off really help Turf Toe though? You want to help him, put Taj in there, win the next 3 games, give him 2+ weeks off.
  5. Ah, the summer of 2001...Gary Condit and Shark attacks. Why did we ever get away from those news stories again?
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 6, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Russel Martin is doing pretty good for the Yankees. And he's much better defensively than AJ. He was coming off two straight seasons with down power numbers, but he's much younger than AJ and pretty athletic. Russel Martin was non-tendered for a reason, the Dodgers didn't want to pay him arb-eligible amounts. He's making $4 million this year and the Yankees thought he was a backup when they signed him. Hell, the Dodgers were one of the teams supposedly in on AJ.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 6, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) What's up with the congressmen, especially Chambliss, that are releasing information from these supposedly "classified" meetings? A couple of them were flat out fooled by some sort of hoax UBL corpse pictures, I have no idea what's up with that.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 6, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) Whatever. This was a top secret Navy Seal mission that successfully killed public enemy #1. That's all I need to know. I gotta agree with Jenks here. They did a solid job of actually killing him, but they needed to either keep their mouths closed until they had all the reports or at least not make up things to fill in the gaps.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) You do realize that their rotation is Hochevar, Francis, Chen, Davies, & O'Sullivan? No offense can support that. I know that young prospects are so popular now, but let's wait until they do something in the majors before we crown KC 2013 & 2014 World Series Champions. It's worth noting as well that by calling up Hosmer now, they're making him a likely super-2 player if he hangs on, which means they're out a year of arb-eligibility and he hits FA a year earlier.

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) He was talking about Cincy I thought. I'm sure he was. But Adam Dunn conveniently played 2 seasons and hit 76 HR with a .910 OPS in Nationals Park as well. That kinda negates anyone sayign that he only hits well in hitters ballparks.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Please don't tell me you think Humber really is better than any of our other starters... I'm no longer sure. He's been throwing the most unhittable curveball in baseball so far this season.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) It amazed me what I heard come out of teenagers mouths for the two months I taught at my local high school. "Cutting taxes doesn't increase tax revenue" The heresy!
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) And be prepared to see more errors than my coed church league softball team makes. Unfortunately, that's not a defense for keeping DV down in the minors. Because we've already seen your church softball team play the OF for us.

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Because he doesn't play in a homer friendly park now? Nationals Park was an average offensive park for the last 2 years also, the Cell is a much better hitters park than Nationals Park.
  15. QUOTE (G&T @ May 6, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) Is this good enough for everyone? Al Qaeda is just a giant conspiracy with the American Defense industry. They're only putting this out to support the President's poll numbers so that he can buy more missiles.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) There's no need. We have multiple spots open on the 40 man roster. I figured he would have been moved there last year to clear spots for sept. callups.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) Lol. C'mon, Balta. May or June, who cares. You implied called up prospects rarely affect pennant races. One did just that last year. How many callups happen for teams that don't affect pennant races for each one that does. A handful at best, while the large majority wind up takign a few years.

    QUOTE (danman31 @ May 5, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) SS still has him by 11k ha! I've got a couple years at this pace to catch up. Fathom's still about 3k ahead of me.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) Buster Posey says salutations. Wasn't he a June callup?
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) If you think his 0 walks means he's not ready, then you might not remember how impatient Dayan is with taking pitches. He's ready as far as hitting for average. He will never be a high, or decent or even average walk guy. He will however hit for alot of power/gap to gap and give you a solid average with a moderate OBP. The problem with his being unable/unwilling to take pitches is that for him to be really a monster doing that, he's going to need to be Vlad in terms of his plate coverage. If he can't lay off a difficult pitch, like the high and tight fastball that was killing him last year, and he can't make contact with that pitch, then pitchers will just throw things out of the zone to get ahead of him and strike him out ont he pitch he can't lay off of.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:29 AM) http://www.kansascity.com/2011/05/05/28530...mes-hosmer.html The stakes on this road trip just got even more complicated. The Royals are launching a warning shot across the bow of the rest of the AL Central. It was one thing when we only had to worry about the Twins. This season, we'd have to jump FOUR teams that now all have a legitimate foundation for ending up as the division winner. We said the Indians aren't real, and maybe they're not, but the Royals have a LOT more talent than the 2003 team that had a 6 1/2 game lead for first place at the ASB. If any of their pitching phenoms can complement Hosmer and Moustakas, watch out. Soon. If Mike Montgomery and Duffy can make it (two lefties for their rotation already dominating in AAA), they're a legit contender. Odorizzi from the Greinke/Brewers deal is also dealing in High A. How often does a May callup actually wind up affecting a pennant race?
  22. Sale and beckham for Reyes is probably the kind of price it would take and the Sox would be insane to offer it
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 5, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) From what Fathom says, sounds more like Michael Youngish...high average, decent pop, a bit shaky witht he leather... That sounds more like him
