  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) So what does he tell those folks that actually won? "Hey you wasted your money!" They can comfort themselves by the fact that they're paying higher taxes.
  2. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) A hypothetical question for the board: If we hadn't traded for Jackson, and had Hudson penciled in his place, and he pitched at about a 4.50 ERA for the season for us, would you still be okay with Hudson and Sale as the 4-5 until Peavy returns, or would you want a reclamation pitcher with a bit of a track record to be picked up for insurance? What happens to the other $9 million? (My answer to your question, btw, is actually yes, I'd have just about as much confidence in Hudson and Sale at the back end as I would in Jackson and Sale, I just want you to note the financials).
  3. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) If this is the case, then why wouldn't the Yankees trade him to us in my proposed Jackson deal, and go with a high upside arm, such as Betances/Brackman in the bullpen in his place to break them in to the bigs? Because they probably need those guys in their staff already? Rivera Feleciano Boone Logan Damaso Marte (out until July after Shoulder surgery) Joba Chamberlain David Robertson Pick your last 2 spots out of their minor leagues (and given the back of their rotation, there's plenty of reason to keep 7 guys in the bullpen to cover innings that the rotation doesn't get).
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Official government numbers for jobs added don't come out until Friday, with expectations of 100k jobs added in December. But ADP releases their own report typically a few days earlier, and tends to be a good general predictor. Their number came in today, with a pretty huge 297k jobs added, almost triple expectations. I just read that the consensus is 140k jobs added, not 100k?
  5. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) If it meant that, then who would you rather have, Infante or Joba Chamberlain? Given that Joba is a first year arb-eligible player this year, honestly, I'll gamble on Infante and the couple million in savings per year for the next 3 years. If Chamberlain struggles, he becomes a DFA candidate next year or especially the year after.
  6. The biggest flaw in any deal that sends Jackson out and brings 2 pitchers back is that it's a "2 warm bodies for 1 warm body" deal. The Yankees already don't have enough warm bodies to fill their bullpen and rotation. Losing 1 warm body makes that situation worse.
  7. I found the headline of this video to be the most entertaining part.
  8. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 12:52 AM) Joe Buck. Tim McCarver. "That taste is there now, b****!"
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) I think a lot of money has dried up period, across baseball. That's why I think Andruw signs for substantially less than that, and it may indeed be with the Sox. Even if that's true, the big guys still have room for OF help. Philly, NYC, and Boston all could use 300 AB's from a RH hitting OF.
  10. Colonel Sanders, when you excerpt a large amount of text that you didn't write, can you please include a direct link to the source? Thanks.
  11. Braves and Uggla are about to agree on a 5 year, $62 million deal. Probably pretty close to market value given his production, still a pretty high salary for them to hand out though considering how much that team seems to avoid the long-term deals lately.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) If Andruw was willing to come back for fairly cheap again, like a million or less and one year, I'd be the Sox would jump at the chance. I'd be the Sox too. Anyway...Jones ought to get $3-4 million from someone. I still think he's a perfect fit for the Twins, but I'm becoming more convinced every day that they just have no money to spend.
  13. Quit trying. Makes me laugh when people do.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) My guess is that they try and throw money at a coach who was successful and then went to the NFL and didnt fare as well. They potentially have a lot of money, should be interesting to see what they can try and pull together. What college coaches have gone to the NFL recently and not already come back? Basically, Pete Carroll is still there, but his team is a playoff team (awesome!). Petrino's already back, Saban's already back.
  15. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 06:38 PM) Sounds like Mallet might not be the sharpest tool in the shed. Well duh, what about one of these screams "Sharp"?
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) That would be a mega blunder for Miami. No reason to draft a running back outside of the top 10 anymore. Too many good backs are available in the late rounds and free agency. But it's worked so well for Buffalo!
  17. I think that normalizing by postcount will clearly bias the sample towards older members.
  18. Good luck establishing that.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) You can go back to 2007 and see all of my posts on the subject, I said that Carr would be an absolute failure and would never come close to the success of Carr. This sounds painful.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) - This QB class is definitely the best in the last few years. Not sure why people would question that. Locker sucks, though. Can't figure out why people are so enamored with him. Yes, he has plenty of physical tools, but he consistently underperformed throughout his career. I hate guys like that. I'd put money on the fact that he won't be good in the NFL. I read this paragraph and though "Jay Cutler".
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) No QB out of college is ever a sure thing but imo Luck has a chance to be one of the more special qb's since Peyton Manning. I think he's that good. I know what you're saying...but this is another on my list of "Things we hear every year"
  22. Eventually they're going to drug test him though
  23. Until our next posting...
