QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) According to you, we don't know how much, because we have no idea how much it really is. Remember the majority of Obama's donations were small, so theoretically they could have just made everything foreign, small, and then hid it from view. But there are 2 things there that would have put people in jail. Taking large donations and slicing them up into small donations to avoid disclosure requirements is patently illegal. Taking contributions from admitted foreign citizens is patently illegal. An FEC claim was filed on the latter by the RNC in 2008, and as far as I can tell it went no where. As far as I can tell, no one has ever alleged the first. Can you back that up?

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) I'm laughing because the intent is there, and that doesn't seem to bother you at all. They are actively trying. You and I have very different definitions of actively trying. Holding a hearing with an "expert" who advocates a certain position does not constitute actually writing legislation. Actually writing legislation does not constitute introducing it into the House. Bringing legislation before a committee does not constitute bringing it up before the full Senate/Full House. Bringing it up before the Full Senate/Full house does not constitute a full court press to pass something. I'd say this effort is less far along than the effort to repeal the 14th amendment.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Of course you would laugh. It all fits the same pattern of penalizing those who earn, for those who don't. I'm laughing because you think that'd actually happen. How many different "things that will never happen" can we put in 1 article? "The government is going to seize everyone's 401K. The government that can't pass jack squat is going to pass gigantic legislation that has never been written and they're going to do so within 2 months and in a lame duck session where the Dem majority has already shrunk."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) Only if it is pointed out that Obama wouldn't disclose his complete list to the public, so we don't know who gave to him either. http://www.lvrj.com/blogs/mitchell/Why_all...ch.html?ref=618 How much influence does $199 buy?- John Danks trade ideas
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Trading your best starter isn't a good business decision for a team trying to win. I think it won't be that hard to come up with lots of examples of teams doing the exact opposite and winning more the next year. The Padres traded Jake Peavy and nearly won the division. The Twins traded Santana, got nothing of real use back, and hardly missed a beat. Toronto was 12 games under .500 in 2009 with Roy Halladay, and 8 games over .500 in 2010 without Roy Halladay.- Quietly so no one sees . . .
Really, we're slacking off this time. This thread needs much more attention. It's lonely.- Ridiculous ads
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I am at least starting to have some respect for the groups like the Swift Boat guys who at least identified themselves and made their accusations. Of course it is easy enough to assume that whomever is paying for the ads has a biased agenda. Is it worth pointing out that the Swift boats were organized as a 527...and as such actually had to disclose their contributors?- 2010 MLB Catch-All Thread

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) My halloween costume involves me shaving my head (and I mean with a razor). I am quite certain I will look bad, but hey, it will grow back. That first week is going to be tough, then it should look normal again. You know what's really fun? Filling up a liquid nitrogen dewar a couple days after shaving one's head. The chilled vapor cloud...eeeeh.- Ridiculous ads
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) in fact, check it out. It looks like these funds have only been around since 2007. https://www.brightstartsavings.com/OFI529/A...fo.do?term=long Where were the funds beforehand? I don't know the issue at all, but is it possible this could be a case of taking a previously safe investment and, rather than playing it safe, following the herd and moving the funds into the ever-rising stock market where people never lose money? A whole lot of municipalities screwed themselves by joining in that game in the 05-07 period, convinced to buy mortgage backed securities by investment firms with their pension funds & stuff like that.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) I have had it happening in Firefox. Same here. For like the last 2 weeks I'm getting a couple crashes of it per day.- Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) I have no doubt they will either, and look at how well that's worked out in the past. They need to take it slow with Mitchell. There's no rush for him to get to the majors. The Sox have Rios for another 3-4 years, Quentin for another 2-3 years, Teahen for another 2-3 years, and stopgap outfielders can be found pretty readily. Let him get the proper development. Tentatively plan for a September call-up in 2012, and for him to come up midseason 2013 if needed. If he proves that he's ready to be a Curtis Granderson clone before then, then he should be welcomed aboard, but he absolutely has to cut back on his strikeouts. You failed to note one key point...the Sox have a scheduled 2012 opening in LF for an OF, assuming no one is signed this offseason. Not to mention the obvious need to move Quentin to DH if he's even still there (if he performs below this level at all next year he becomes a non-tender candidate). There's still a 5% chance that D2 could step up and grab that, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were thinking of a Mitchell CF, Rios RF, someone else OF for 2012.- 2010 NLCS: Giants vs. Phillies
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 07:57 AM) Gotta love our boy Uribe with the bat flip on a sac fly. He was clearly pissed because the previous pitches kept nearly hitting him.- 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Look at any youtube post, internet message board or newspaper article comment section and you find stuff like that. If he really thinks we should show sympathy towards him because of anonymous internet comments to his Twitter site he literally need a brain transplant. The one thing I gather from this entire situation is that LeBron is pretty much a complete moron. I'd be totally amazed if he wasn't regularly getting hate mails & such before his move. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 08:44 AM) Also, it will be interesting to see if the trend in KY changes after this aqua buddha ad. Pretty much all of the available polls in the past week in KY have shown a tightening race, even the GOP-leaning Rasmussen.- Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 02:05 AM) I think, if anything, this just goes to show how raw Mitchell is. He's probably a top 3 talent in the system, but he spent a lot of time on football in college and is incredibly underdeveloped as a baseball player. You have to assume he starts next year in A-ball, probably in W-S, and if he shows enough there, then you can promote him to BHam midseason, and it honestly might not be a bad idea to put him back in Kanny. I'll put a real strong bet that they start him in B-Ham next year. It's totally their M.O. the last few years. Extremely aggressive with promotions.- Mike Quade Named Cubs Manager
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 07:06 PM) I also think VDN can be good too, but we shall see. Eventually I think he might be able to be. He didn't put together a bad defense in Chicago. He just had no idea how to combine developing young players with winning games, and his offense was nightmarish.- Ridiculous ads
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) I'm not sure that's universally true. There are some races that are tightening up that didn't look like they should, and it seems like the behavior of the front-runners, including their ads, is having an effect. Its happening in Alaska, Kentucky, and other states. You refer to Kentucky...but Rand Paul is the legitimate front-runner in that race, and Conway has actually closed the gap if anything. He certainly hasn't been hurt by his ads.- Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) I lost like 8 pounds in a week while I went through that. That issue in China was how I started getting down to a normal weight and back in shape. Follow that up with a legitimate exercise program and bam!- Quietly so no one sees . . .

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 08:18 AM) I believe when a campaign makes a false statement like that they should be liable to run and pay for an equal number of ads setting the record straight. The problem, Tex, is that the way around that is very simple...instead of running an inaccurate ad yourself, you just have the Chamber of Commerce do it.- Technology catch-all thread
