Does money rule all personnel decisions in baseball?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) I wouldn't be surprised if Sale takes the Jack McDowell route, and we don't see him at the major league level until August or September of next year, but he comes back as a starter. This is exactly what I'm hoping they do with him...with the small caveat that I hope he only gets a couple spot starts in September because the starting rotation hung together, was healthy, and performed all year in the bigs.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) See, burning a religion's holy book to mock and degrade that religion is just like building a community center with a mosque in it. Identical. Here's the deal...Christians will stop burning Muslim holy books, and Muslims will stop worshiping. Fair trade, right?

Does money rule all personnel decisions in baseball?
QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) Maybe the sox can package Q and Teahen together maybe somebody will bite , lets just hope we sign Konerko , also do you guys think Sale will be in the rotation next year? No, I don't think Sale will be in the rotation next year. I think KW knows that he can't go into the regular season next year with only 5 starters and count on a rookie to be 1 of them and Peavy to be another. The last few years, he's tried repeatedly to be 6 deep in the rotation, and every time he winds up needing that 6th guy somewhere. I think Sale likely starts in Charlotte next year unless they just throw in the towel and put him in the bullpen permanently.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 07:26 AM) Right, those tea party f***ers... racist bastards... they threaten those Mooslims. Hardcore! AmeriKKKa! Someone says something about how Muslims are being threatened without explicitly blaming it on the tea party...Kap doesn't deny that the threats are hapepning, but assumes its an attack on him and his tea party that he must respond to. Because any time anyone talks about how a minority is facing prejudice...the tea party must be defended. Wonder why that is.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 07:46 AM) Let's see - 60 Democrats in Senate, large House majority, and you are WHINING about how this is the Republicans fault? Sorry, but it cannot be the Republicans fault this time. It's because your fearless wonderboy has no real balls and targeted his little pet projects instead of what really works. It didn't fail from that standpoint, because now you have this s*** baked into the annual budgets, bloated pork and all. Nice hide the weenie. Other then that, YOUR PEOPLE failed you. Got that? Blame your own wonder party for once. YOUR IDEAS DO NOT WORK. It really says something to me that you guys are so willing to ignore reality in this case because it makes your point. There is simply no way that any honest and informed person could look at the performance of the Congress over the last 2 years and think that the Obama admin had an easier Congressional setup than the Bush admin. did, for example. Filibusters have skyrocketed. Obama has had 1/2 as many judges confirmed at this point in his presidency as Bush did. Bush rolled over the Democrats repeatedly and got tons of them to vote with him on tax cuts, the Iraq debacle, you name it. Simple things that the Republicans did without even a mention, like passing the Tax cuts through reconciliation, are suddenly the most heinous of procedural crimes. If you're going to argue that the Dems got anywhere close to everything they want because of the "60 democrats in the Senate and large house majority", you're either being willfully dishonest or you flat out haven't been paying attention.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 11:41 PM) I would love to see Thome win a ring. Hopefully its next year and not in a Twins uniform. I can't imagine the Twins being dumb enough to not bring him back. Unless he decides he wants to retire. Hell, they'd get to run a "chase for 600" promotion of some sort.

eBook readers, Who has one, what do you think?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) Oh, but it is....trust me... I know it's worth it...it's just not worth it to me at this point in my life. Too large of a chunk of money for something that would be a niceity but not a necessity.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) He said this morning he hoped to play today Back in the good old days, Ozzie used to have a rule that if you asked out of a game one day for an injury, you had the next day off automatically, and I actually kind of liked that rule.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) Tim Couch says hi Best Quarterback draft in History(so we were told) I think the message on Alex Smith/Aaron Rogers may be more about how the situation a QB is put in affects the results rather than about how scouts can be so wrong. Anyone out there think that if Aaron Rogers had gone #1 and had been starting immediately for that downtrodden, talent-less 49'ers team, he'd have wowed people?

Frightening Discovery
Ah, Teahen...that's who you're talking about. Never thought of him as a huge Sox killer. Only an .806 career OPS against the Sox. Only 12 home runs against us in nearly 300 AB's. That's above his career numbers but not hugely. I guess I never thought of him as a Sox killer. When I think of Sox killers...the list starts with Thome, and I think he appears somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 times. Mike Sweeney winds up somewhere on that list. I'd count Johan Santana just because he was better against us than anyone else, no matter how good he was overall. Joe Nathan is probably another one I'd count as a Sox killer. That's getting the majority of my recent year, true Sox killer list.

QUOTE (11and1 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) If this season has taught me anything, it's that Sox-killers don't have to be on other teams. And if we make a (usually dumb) deal to acquire a Sox-killer from a divisional rival,he will kill us twice as dead as a member of our team. Huh?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) It failed. Because we had to make it worse to make you and your side happy. The stock market bottomed in March, 2009. The stimulus was passed in late February. So, the stock market clearly thinks its helped things get better, based on exactly your standard. Unless that standard only applies when a Democrat does something that makes it go down and a Republican makes it go up...and not the reverse. Which would be kinda a weird standard.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Guess what all of that means... The stimulus failed. Unless I use the explicit standard you used on the day it passed...the DJIA, in which case it's a rousing success. Or the change in monthly job losses. In which case it's a rousing success. It really is a fun game you guys got to play. Tell me how the stimulus was too big, too wasteful, how it needed to be more loaded with tax cuts, tell us how it isn't going to be out the door fast enough if it focuses on high-impact spending, carve out massively the aid to the states, pretend that no one was out there saying it wasn't big enough, and pretend that it didn't do basically exactly what you'd expect for too small of a package, and then tell us how it failed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) I seem to remember being told that it was large enough last time around. That it should result in 8% unemployment... And I also remember being told that it would result in rampant inflation and that we'd be paying interest rates through the roof. And i also remember you telling me that the 300 point stock market drop on the day it passed was entirely due to the Stimulus's passage (the DJIA of course is up >3000 points/40% since then).
