  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) I still don't understand why people have an issue with this. 2 blocks was well within the zone of damage/destruction caused by 9/11. You state this as though the site is some tiny 10 foot by 10 foot plot of land. And you state this as though it's somewhere other than New York City, where 2 blocks of land covers enough space for tens of thousands of people to live and work.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) Balta hit the biggest one already. Bush's name was attached to everything under the sun in a derogatory manner. This very recession is referred to all of the time as Bush's recession, and I can't see that being a term of endearment from the left. And the 2001 recession was called the Clinton Recession. The Oil spill was Obama's Katrina.
  3. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Yep, and before people start touting the Putz contract he has more health issues than Jenks. Not sure getting rid of Jenks is the answer. I'd actually consider bringing the whole gang back next year...but I don't want to offer either Putz or Jenks more than $2-$3 million, and I think someone will offer them both more than that.
  4. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Correct, which is why the Bulls won't offer Noah. Honestly, if I were the Bulls and I could get Anthony for Noah + Deng, and do so without giving up Gibson such that I at least had someone to play C this year, I don't see how I could say no.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Yep, disagreeing with building a mosque next to ground zero is EXACTLY the same kind of act as literally burning the Koran. Totally indistinguishable. What gaul these folks have drawing a distinction between the two. And what gall you have in continuing to B.S. about the location.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Also, I find it pretty funny the response this guy is getting from the rest of the world, as if one nutcase burning a book is worse for American-Muslim relations than, oh, I dunno, extremist Muslims killing westerners on a constant basis. Again, burning a book, versus slicing peoples heads off. Totally tit for tat there. Really, on this point you're right. Where are we going to wind up if every time some nutcase in Florida decides to do something nutty regarding Muslims it ignites worldwide protests? The end result of that of course is that it's going to wind up with a lot more nutcases doing nutty things.
  7. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) That is very debatable if the Knicks want to get ballsy and offer Randolph as well. If they don't, your right. Not if the Bulls get ballsy in reply and offer Joakim. The problem with Noah is...the cost in luxury tax of taking on him and Deng and offering Noah an extension would be monstrous.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) You are way to harsh on CQ and JD Really, I think that comparison is totally deserved. Coming into this season, Quentin's bat was going to determine our place in this division. We've been better than expected from a lot of guys in the lineup, but that's been one spot that we've way underproduced.
  9. Saw this yesterday and liked it. Quoting an article from 1998 about the bank of Japan by one...Milton Friedman. It appears quite applicable to the current fiscal situation. here is the graph of what the U.S. monetary supply has been doing. When we were pulling our way out of the hole, the Fed was doing exactly what Freidman advocated Japan do; basically print money. Since the start of this year, we've headed in the opposite direction.
  10. I think this commentary also applies excellently to Kap's continual "How dare you insinuate that the tea party is racist!" gag line.
  11. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) Just checking in on the game; haven't really been watching, but let me throw this out there -- anyone noticed that, since Ramirez got advice earlier this week from Walker about his lack of power, he hasn't had one hit? DJ and Farmer said that Ramirez wasn't really looking for the power in that last at bat, he was trying to push the ball the other way. They chastised him for it.
  12. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) I imagine the bigger outcry would be from liberals that it's freedom of speech and while they don't advocate it, they have the right to do it. That's the message that would dominate the airwaves....not the opposition to the bible burning. Those words came from the commie/nazi in the white house.
  13. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) When a team is hitting everything you throw, at their ballpark, makes you wonder, especially over a three f***ing day span Wonder what? What the Tigers did to make Gavin lose 4 mph from his fastball?
  14. Dewayne Wade...bravely blocking the shots of 12 year old kids.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) So the next question becomes, how do the BUlls and Knicks match up with Denver? The Bulls have more talent to offer, the Knicks can offer greater salary flexibility.
  16. Gavin needs to be out of this game.
  17. Timothy Noah over at Slate is running a fascinating series on why income inequality has spiked so massively in the last couple decades. It's not over yet, but all of the pieces have been good reads.
  18. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) Yeah, and I'm wondering if he even will hit a HR whilst in a Sox uniform. If he plays enough games in the Cell, he'll get at least one. Unless he stops trying for the last 3 weeks.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) He looked 100% overmatched during Spring Training. And pitchers against him in the minors all year looked overmatched against him.
  20. Rios starting to make it interesting.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Well, at least I can focus on the Bears 0-7 start now. I still don't think the Bears are nearly as bad as people are talking.
  22. Postgame show finally canceled.
  23. Jorge Posada is experiencing concussion symptoms.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) Imagine for a moment, if a mosque in the US decided to have a bible burning session. Now imagine the outcry in this country in response. But...they promise to cancel it if you pledge not to build any more churches.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) It's the same as someone using Tea-Partiest in a derogatory way. **Dodges Kap's almost guaranteed shot at me for even mentioning Tea Party** Um...when we want to deride them, we almost universally use the easy insult "Tea-bagger".
