QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Wrong. Remember 8%? 8% was assumed...but we weren't there yet. 10% was presented as the worst case scenario if we do nothing. Some of us said that was wrong and doing nothing would push us into legitimate depression territory (12%).

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) It's funny because Tebow looked like s*** that game. ESPN won't let you think that though. The only thing he did to make his numbers look good was throwing dump off passes on the last drive when they were down more than one score (against people that won't even make the team). They don't show the ball that hit the LB's hands (should have been a pick 6), the other almost INT he had, or the fumbled snap. He takes forever to get rid of the ball still and makes bad decisions. Everyone that watched the game was tearing him apart. See, I haven't paid much attention other than ESPN random commentary, and I'll I've read today is how great he looked.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) ESPN is saying all signs are leaning towards Carmello leaving the nuggets....any chance the bulls try to trade for him? Sure. What would the Bulls have that matches up contract-wise is the question. If the Nuggets would be interested in Deng (or, um, Boozer), they could pull something off. Otherwise, the Bulls have no way to match another team's max salary player.

By the way...with long term interest rates hovering around 2.5% now...there may never be a better time in the next century to borrow and undertake large federally funded construction projects of any sort.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) what? i said hardly any. if we were just going to throw money at construction projects it should have been used to update bridges or ports or canals or whatever else is 10 years away from falling apart. A decent amount of that has been done/is being done. Still could have used another $2 trillion though.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Its not that the projects themselves were bad - highway work is needed here and there. Its that they aren't sustainable, and don't create newer, better jobs in the future. That's where they seriously f***ed up - going exclusively short term in their thinking. That all said though, I would not say its a complete fail. Data is showing that UE would have been a little worse, and the added cash in the economy has helped prevent an even worse recession. So not a complete fail - just not a raving success either. Zero problem with doing "Highway work". Thanks to the "Small government revolution", we've put off a couple trillion in infrastructure investment that still needs caught up on. In terms of not getting that done though..that's the problem with 60-70% of the stimulus package being made of up tax breaks, which some of us were complaining loudly about at the time of passage.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Who said anything about ignoring anything? Quite the contrary, its obvious you will choose to ignore all other options but one, while I was saying there were multiple underlying reasons. Of course I could give 19 reasons if I wanted...but it's absolutely amazing how they all tie in to the Senate.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) The stimulus has been a complete fail to this point. It was sold to the American people as a necessary evil to create jobs. It's created nothing to this point. Unemployment has gone up since that bill was signed, not down. The stimulus was proposed along with estimates that said unemployment would keep going up. That was 100% assumed at the time of passage.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Multiple reasons. There is no one, shiny object to blame here. If you're going to ignore "The Senate" as the obvious candidate there, then there's really not much else to talk about.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) That had to be a phase 2, there was no time in that situation to work out the other stuff. But I certainly agree that the regulations and changes that needed to follow it, have been disappointing at best. And again...why would you say that is?

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Studies have shown that more data is actually used on Verizon than on AT&T despite the iPhone. Who knows though. By the way, you should ask about AT&T in your area. In smaller cities, AT&T is pretty good. Here, we have no problem. 3G will cut out in the farms, but I don't drop calls. I know a lot of people with AT&T and no one complains. Chicago and NYC are another story... One big selling point for me on Verizon is that I have a habit of winding up using phones in all sorts of nasty, backwoods places, and I can still recall all the amazing points that I've gotten legitimate signal on Verizon's network in the middle of no where while the people on other networks were borrowing my phone at the end of the night. Plus one of my big yearly trips/conferences is downtown San Francisco and that city's one of the constant complaint locations for AT&T as well.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Even if the Droid's problem is worse than the iPhone's, no one will notice because Verizon is a better network. Some of the places I read suggested the problem could actually be related to Verizon's network, either it being excessively hit by a new type of phone or that the phone was struggling to interface with that network. I hate AT&T as much as anyone and that's why i don't have an iPhone yet, but there is some logic to the argument that the reason AT&T's network is below everyone else's in quality is that they have iPhones on it. (Edit: one way to test this of course would be to put an iPhone on another network and let holdouts like me finally have the chance to buy and use them).

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) The Motorola Droid 43 -- err, 2 -- made it's debut late last week and is apparently plagued by worse reception problems than any phone in history. You'd think that in light of the recent iPhone4 controversy, that Motorola/Verizon went out of their way to make fun of, that they would have went out of their way to make sure something like this wouldn't happen... Where are you reading that their reception problems are worse than the iPhone's? I just went through a handful of sites, including apple friendly ones, and got the "haha" impression more than the "This is absolutely terrible" impression. Not that I'm defending either since I have zero horses in this race.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Poorly executed means the details weren't well done. You could have had both those benefits AND built something more sustainable, if the stim bill had less emphasis on temporary construction jobs and more on long term business efforts. And of course...the question is...could that have gotten through the Senate? (no).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) Now the Stim bill, on the other hand, was poorly executed and a huge wasted opportunity. And yet, all things considered...it's been remarkably successful at pushing back the onset of deflation by nearly a year and a half.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) It's not that it can't happen, but I really don't think this team is that good, and Minnesota is really good. The White Sox weren't as good as they were when they went 25-5, and the Twins aren't as good as they are now that they're on a 17-4 streak.
