Greinke very candid about frustration with Royals
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) But when is it going to turn into winning baseball games? Sometimes it never does. Sometimes guys bust, sometimes you waste draft picks, sometimes you have the wrong people in your org...but sometimes, you do what the Rays did in 2008 and totally bust out of it. There's still a ways to go there in KC to get the system legitimately built up into something that can sustain itself for a while.

Stone...that was awful. Nicely done Lex.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) Always happens at the Cell. Ozzie Guillen urinates in the visiting clubhouse drinking water before every game.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) I'm totally confused. Clearly something came up last minute otherwise they'd have been able to better prepare for this. Haven't said anything since I tuned in. Garcia is getting regularly ahead of these hitters. That's a very good sign.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) I went to a game when Wayne Nordhagen was the catcher and he would forget when there were men on base. I could believe that would be easier for a catcher to forget than the count.

QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Wondering the same thing...kind of boring When Vin Scully does a game alone, he's got all sorts of other stuff lined up to talk about to keep things rolling.

Good to see a scoreless inning from the big guy.

Did I miss something in the pregame or is there a reason why Stone is alone in the booth?

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Keith Bogans is going to receive very limited playing time. People who are begging for all these secondary role players need to realize that there are only so many minutes to go around. At the SG/SF positions, you need to divide 96 minute between Brewer, Korver, Deng, Bogans, Rudy, Johnson and even Watson. Getting Rudy isn't really vital for future success, and getting yourself into a bidding war won't help. Ya, he's exciting to watch, but he's also inconsistent and has been complaining about playing time. Overpaying for him would be an incredibly dumb mistake. And, he's been unhappy with 23-25 minutes in Portland. He'd get less in Chicago.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) I think AJ lost the count on that play. He turned around and was talking to the umpire after the play.I hope he comes back if Tyler Flowers is the answer as a replacement. AJ has been pretty brutal offensively this year, but has had a real good defensive season. Castro is a nice back up. He was very popular in NY as a back up, fans always wanting him to have the regular job. When he plays more frequently he tends to show why he is a back up, which is fine. I think the Sox have a cheap option on him next year. I can't figure this out...how does the catcher lose the count, esp. on a 3 ball count? Isn't pitch calling heavily dependent on the count?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) I guarantee if he bombs today Kenny and his staff will be scrambling to figure out a way to replace him. With the way Minnesota has now put together a solid 1-5 we can't afford to to battle for these last 6 weeks with a man short. We've been a man short on offense the whole year. It might well just be too late to find anyone better on the waiver wire market.

Is it even worth noting that the other 2 mosques near the WTC site have a habit of filling up to the point that they have to close their doors...such that there is legitimate demand in the area for additional worship facilities in that region?

Gamethread: White Sox (65-51) vs Tigers (55-60) 6:05PM CST
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) He has 15, and sports a .973 OPS and has 38 RBIs with 42 walks in 241 ABs. Andruw Jones has 15 as well, sports a .744 OPS with 36 RBI and 34 walks in 267 ABs. That sounds like a freaking ideal platoon for me, if I assume that Jones is a solid defensive replacement in the OF (which he is).

Thome has 15 HR on the season, as does Jones.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) This is BY NO MEANS praise of Andruw (I am not very good anymore) Jones, but doesn't he have more homers than Thome this year? No.

Gamethread: White Sox (65-51) vs Tigers (55-60) 6:05PM CST
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) I can see the elephant in the room; I just think it's funny all of a sudden there are a LOT of reasons we lost the game and not just the closer implosion. I mean, cmon, not to you specificially, but it's pretty obvious there would have been an explosion of the worst kind on here had a certain ex-closer blown this one. That bomb he gave up in Baltimore was tied for the first hardest hit ball I've seen all year. That shot and the one by Teahen yesterday. Both were crushed. Changing the closer for the first time this season after about 20 saves...big deal. Changing the closer for the 2nd time after only 2 more saves...not as big of a deal.

Gamethread: White Sox (65-51) vs Tigers (55-60) 6:05PM CST
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) Maybe you should have watched last year as well. Your theory assumes he would be just as effective for the Sox. Your Thome envy ruins any baseball sense you could have. Go back to watching more Twins baseball and you might see another side to this. Hell...comparing Target Field and the Cell, he ought to have been more effective with us. The issue is...you can't try to make him a 600 PA player like Ozzie kept trying to do with him, you need to give him 300-400 PA's...and then use the rest of the PA's to move guys like Quentin and Konerko to DH and using Jones and someone else as a backup. It's amazing how well Thome would have worked with the rotating DH. It really is. It's EXACTLY what they wanted in terms of giving them the chance to give extra rest to the guys in the lineup.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) Is that taking into account the likely huge crowds with Boston and NYY in town? Yeah, because there are series with teams like Baltimore, cleveland, and KC remaining IIRC...after the school year starts, so they'll probably be below average, esp. if we fall farther back of the surging Twins.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) Great first sentence there, as I've also said that lately...even if we fall short in the AL Central, the 26-5 run definitely saved our attendance this season. We'll still be down compared to last season, but there's an extra couple thousand people a game there because of that streak. - Edwin Jackson
