Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) How much would a guy like Harden, or reclamation projects like Webb or Bedard cost on the open-market? I'm assuming that Javy, Sheets and Lee will be getting the majority of play for the free-spending teams. Harden? Keep him away. Ugh. Interesting that we're looking to replace Buehrle and Garcia with another Freddy Garcia, and hoping that we get lucky.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) I think we can compete next year without Buerhrle and Garcia. Just by looking at the free agent class of pitchers i think it would only take one signing to get a rotation of Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Hudson, SP to respectability. The problem is, if you spend money on a replacement starting pitcher, then where do you find the money to add bat and bullpen?

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Why would they trade for a pitcher with an ERA north of 6 in June? They've done dumber things. Like trading for Javy Vazquez. Again.

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) It really feels to me like the Cavs are getting ready for life after LeBron. Tom Izzo would be that sort of hire.

NBA Offseason Thread
Lots of Cleveland related goings-on today, with Tom Izzo potentially being offered their coaching job, and Mo Williams and Delonte West being put on the trade market.

Kotsay is the Second Coming of Dan Pasqua
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) More like Darin Erstad That's a better comparison. You could complain all you wanted about Erstad getting playing time high in the order in 2007, but you also had to tell me which .200 hitting player you wanted hitting there instead.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) I wonder if this is a true story, or something planted as a last resort to wake this team up? Last year, there was a report of KW calling other teams to try to dump players hours before THome and Contreras departed. Frankly, this is probably aimed more at other GM's than anyone else if its' deliberate. It's a "hey, call me" message.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) Maybe he goes away as a rental (and possibly win another ring), and come back home to the Sox in the offseason. It'll probably depend on whether or not Kotsay wants to come back as the DH, he's obviously the first option.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) I was hoping that they'd re-sign PK to a three-year extension at a reduced salary. If they're willing to deal him, I imagine that Mark might be on the trading block as well. I don't think there's anyone on this team you don't trade if the price is right. The difference between MB and PK is...you're asking a team to give up an awful lot more for MB, because he's signed for longer, and you're asking another team to pay based on performance he hasn't replicated this season. I could still see PK14 come back next year even if he's dealt, if he wants to, on perhaps a 1-2 year deal. I'd be surprised if there's any team in MLB who will offer him a 3 year deal.

Computer help
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) I'll keep that in mind. I uninstalled the last Java update, and that seems to have worked. Thanks guys! Java updates will always try to reinstall themselves. Make sure, when it happens, that you don't check the Yahoo toolbar option.

Computer help
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) That is exactly it. Even if I delete Yahoo as a choice before closing. One solution is to always try uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, if you can bare to lose anything you've saved.

Official 2010-2011 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) yeah probably...it could be texas, could be notre dame, pitt, rutgers, syracuse I wouldn't be surprised if the Big Ten left it set up somehow so that they'd have the ability to add one more team if Notre Dame ever decided they wanted in.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) You can click the search icon, select 'manage search engines', highlight 'google', and select the 'move up' button on the right side. If I'm understanding his problem...he does that, but then when Firefox restarts, Yahoo retakes the top spot.

Computer help
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) And are you talking about the home page when you open firefox? Can't you just set the homepage to whatever you want via tools->options->general tab->homepage I think he's talking about the search bar at the top right, which features about a half dozen search options. Google is usually on top on mine, his keeps resetting to Yahoo.

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
If Brent hits .300+ and hits 8+ HR in Charlotte for the rest of the year, then we can start talking about a September callup for him. Otherwise, he has enough of his game to work on down there, and we ought to plan for another AFL stint for him too.

Computer help
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) If I go back and uninstall the last Java update, should that fix it? (if that is it) Java updates all of the time on mine, I never have this problem...but I've never hit the "Install the Yahoo toolbar" on anything.

I'm hoping the swear filter cleans this up appropriately. Tony Buzbee is an attorney representing 15 of the rig workers and several fisherman/residents.

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) So you would rather watch Nix/Vizquel every day for the next six weeks over Morel? I'm not with you on that one. All Omar Vizquel does for every inning he plays the field or every at bat he takes is take experience away from a younger guy who could truly use the major league experience, good or bad. Omar is a complete waste of space. This is an easy answer: Yes. No hesitation. What's the worst that happens? We lose some games? Big deal. What's the upside? Maybe Nix has a few good games, gets more comfortable at the position, and becomes a more effective platoon player? Maybe Vizquel keeps up this little hot streak he's on and someone from the NL decides they'd be happy with a backup defensive IF who's hitting .275. We also save a minor league option on Morel, and we don't screw around with a guy who might be an important piece for us in a couple years by putting him in a place that he's not yet close to ready for. And I still say Teahen's better than what we've seen, when he gets back.

NBA playoffs thread
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) There's a few to pick from. Reggie Miller is up there considering he's the all time leader in 3 point shooting. Allen will take that record unless he retires.

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
Morel was just moved to AAA, he's ahead of schedule getting to that league, he's struggled for his first 20 at bats or so, and frankly, he belongs there for at least this year.

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:20 AM) Some moves will be made...they'll have to. But, I don't see any of the starting pitchers going anywhere, except maybe Danks, only because he hasn't signed an extension. I think AJ will be moved, and maybe Jones. I hope Konerko signs again, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's dealt. I just don't think the starting lineup is going to look all that different come August 1. I think Garcia is moved before the deadline and Hudson gets his shot. He's doing what he needs to do to earn it. Garcia is affordable to any team, he's pitching darn well, and he's a likely "Offer him arbitration and maybe grab a pick" candidate. I think KW will dangle starters but will demand a king's ransom for the other guys, and with Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt on the market, there's no one who's going to pay the necessary price for our guys.

The "Is it over or not?" thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:27 AM) Well, if the Sox miraculously catch the Twins, that probably means they get really hot and stay that way for the rest of the season. So by nature, if that happens, we would look awfully good in the post-season, having the hot hand. If you're KW and you believe at all this can happen, that's your best motivation for firing the manager. I don't believe it can happen personally.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) Has he been proven wrong? In the same sense that we can't prove that it wasn't JFK on his secret fake moonlanding set who set off the explosives on 9/11 that brought down building 7, no.
