  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) The funny thing is our 1.112 OPS DH swings about as hard as he can at basically every pitch he sees. Some guys it works for. Jones, thome, etc. You know as well as anyone though that Nix is really hampered by trying to kill every ball he sees. Josh Fields had it kill his career. Konerko, AJ...when they're trying to swing for the fences rather than going straight up the middle, they fall into slumps and K or pop up every time. (See: AJ right now).
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 01:54 AM) No way in hell they win 9 more games if Rose and Noah are healthy. Maybe 5 more, but 9 is a bit too much considering that Noah was out for what? 15 games? Rose only missed 4. Even though Noah was only out for a short period, he was hampered for a period 2x as long. (You're right about that not being a 50 win team even then though).
  3. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Can't believe people still hire this clown for a year at a time. When you need a rebuilding plan and you've got issues like Elton Brand's contract, why not?
  4. I certainly didn't get the impression that either of those were true. I got the impression that JR didn't want to get into a bidding war against the Knicks for D'Antoni, because he was going to lose that bidding war, and I got the impression that Doug Collins had the job if he'd wanted it and he decided he didn't want it.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 05:16 AM) Lucky for you then because 8 is already confirmed. Once upon a time 6 was supposed to be the last one as they were shooting for two trilogies. Nine of them is all but a lock in my opinion as there is word they are looking to now end on three trilogies... as people are putting it. Then they'll get to 9...and they'll realize..."Hey, money!"
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) That's a good point, actually. Personally, I don't get too excited about stuff like this, ... with that said, though, don't take my PERSONAL freedom away to pray or not to pray. The rest is a stupid arguement, really. You really think so? I don't see it that way. I certainly see it that way. Anyway...I'll bet if you put a team of really smart lawyers on this, you could find a way to have the people in the government recognize the day and release statements about the day but without having it codified in law that it is a federally considered holiday.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) The point here is that Obama is pulling the country hard left. Compared to past years, this is hard left. Not Billy C. left nut on a blue dress left. Hard left. It turns this into a Euroweenie state. And frankly, that's socialism. Obama clearly belives this is the best policy for this country. The remarkable thing about the whole "Socialism!" thing is how the Obama Health Care plan basically took the Republican opposition outline to the Clinton plan (the individual mandate) and used that as the basis for everything.
  8. I seriously think that 878,000 number is not including Americans who go to Mexico for treatments. I think that number doubles when you count Mexico.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) So, we can stop the cherry picking now, no? As I said earlier, I don't necessarily agree with this law because the enforcement is almost impossible, and it's too arbitrary. But, the race baiters are out there in full force even though it's damn clear that the case will be dropped and even the law enforcement people are subject to lawsuits themselves if they go solely based on race. If they can't "go solely based on race" then this law wouldn't exist and you know that.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) Adalius Thomas worth a look? The Bears have more than enough LB's.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) And if this issue doesn't show the f'd up nature of our news agencies. Try to find a copy of the actual law we're all debating here. You have to sift through hundreds of stories about it (which don't include links or even quote the actual text of the statute). What a shock that our society debates talking points over substance. Dude...it really wasn't that hard. It was "Arizona immigration law text" and the 2nd link on Google.
  12. I'd like to thank the Senate GOP for writing us some darn fine campaign ads tonight.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) OTOH, no one is really sure if he will ever be able to cut down k's, draw walks, and hit offspeed pitches. His K numbers aren't terrible, it's the K/BB ratio that's bad, but that's partly because he's got such an aggressive approach that he needs to adapt.
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) Ricky Brooks did get hurt, he's on the DL. Clevelan Santeliz is also on the DL now. Tyson Corley promoted to B'ham. Well, I'll be. He finished that inning after the injury and got 3 straight outs, including 1 that he had to field.
  15. Those are all pretty hard questions to answer from my vantage point. Morel was doing a solid job of driving the ball the opposite way, including that double in the video. He was a HR short of the cycle, but I could easily see him having solid HR power to all fields with the way the ball was jumping off of his bat. I couldn't tell you how the OF defense looked honestly, it was just too far away. If someone was paying me to scout this game instead of sitting there with my wife, I'd have moved to the OF for an inning or two to keep an eye on those guys. I didn't really seem to have any complaints, but i can't judge their range from what I saw. Out of every pitcher on the day, I'd say Cashner for the Cubs, who topped out the radar gun and had, for much of the game, good difference between his FB and his breaking stuff. For the Barons, I'd say that Rasner and Socolovich out of the bullpen put on the best shows, Socolovich probably with the best outing, Rasner lasted a little longer. I don't think that Sanchez is in the David Cook limbo yet, I think they moved him fairly aggressively upwards this year for a make-or-break year.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) In a heartbeat You'd be complaining constantly about how we needed to upgrade from our weak hitting SS.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) Salvador "Big Dirty" Sanchez is 24 going on 25. Are we sure this time?
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) You could make an argument that he has more power than Pujols. It wouldn't sound strange because there are several players who have more power than him. What you have to take into account is overall package. Howard isn't that great in terms of overall. He K's way too much for my liking. That alone would make me shave $25 million off his contract. Compared to what Albert would get if he took a 5 year extension, this probably is shaving $25 million off of it.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) Everyone knows he can hit for power Really? I thought it was the power we were waiting on.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) It would be ironic...but with Nick Swisher in NY Yankees form, our offense could be much more balanced and end up in the top 5-6-7. Or a healthy Xavier Nady. Or Matsui. Or Thome. Or Dunn. Or Cust. Or Branyan. Or Damon. Or any high power, high K, high OBP LH or switch batter. Swisher's hitting .228 with a .348 OBP in Yankee uniform now. Jack Cust got Cut. And no one claimed him. Branyan has played in 4 games this season.
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Kevin_Goldstein Talking to scout about #WhiteSox outfielder Trayce Thompson. "Is this for real?" I ask. Scout: "Oh yeah, absolutely. He's tremendous." about 2 hours ago via TweetDeck http://twitter.com/Kevin_Goldstein/status/12895361422 How did people talk about guys like Heyward when they were 19?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) That's kind of unfair. The guy was young, young, young. Richard is 26, turns 27 later this season.
  23. QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Meaning guys who are much more consistent at the plate, higher Batting Averages, and known for spraying the ball all over the park. Alexi and Tehean are perfect examples of guys that overall perform well, but nothing that consistent and have the ability to be hitting .200 for months at a time. Alexei has been in the league 2 years, and has hit .290 and .277 in those 2 years. Theriot is a career .290 hitter. In his first 2 seasons, he hit .328 and .266 consecutively. Theriot's worst average month in his career is Sept./Oct, where he hits .254, while he typically hits 70 points better in April/May.
  24. QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) For Ozzieball to work you would need like Ryan Theriot instead of Alexi, Polanco instead of Tehean, etc. Huh?
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Which of those players were you demonstrably upset about their leaving and not saying "good riddance" to basically? There's a difference between being demonstrably upset with a guy leaving and being thrilled that they're gone. Harris, Crede, Uribe, Cabrera, Masset, Aardsma, I'm not exactly going to celebrate their departures. Each of them had a reason (Harris was a FA, Crede's back was gone, Cabrera we got draft picks for, Masset was moved for Griffey, etc.). Doesn't mean I'd think "Yay, this opens up a roster spot!" for them departing.
