Wow, this hasn't been updated in a few years. Sanchez is now up in B-Ham, he's listed as being 24, and he's not looking terrible there. He looks to be in great shape, and towers over some of his teammates.

Can the trophy be a stolen urinal trough from Wrigley?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) A very solid weekend for them. The sooner they cut Russel the better. Campbell will be a nice 2-3 year bridge to the next QB. They'd be crazy not to do it this year. They get to choose between paying him $3 million to cut him or a much larger amount to keep him, IIRC.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) They are upset with government spending levels. From what admittedly little I've seen in speeches and quoted statements from their leadership, they don't exclude military spending from that equation. Some might, I don't know, but you seem to THINK they feel that the military isn't subject to it. I just haven't seen any evidence as such, only your assumption. As an example, Ron Paul, the Libertarian that he is, was quite against many of our military endeavors. When you do polling data whether scientific or unscientific, they wind up being almost exactly like the rest of the country. They think that "Foreign aid" and "Waste" makes up a huge part of our budget and that's the part they want to see eliminated to balance everything, but when you ask if they're willing to cut Medicare, or unemployment benefits, or Social Security payments, or to end wars to do it...there's strong opposition. And when you ask if they're willing to cut Foreign Aid to specific places, like Israel...well, no, we can't cut that either, we like them.

They make it sound like the Bulls had a choice. VDN's hiring was symptomatic of everything else that has gone wrong...basically since the year Wallace was signed and Thomas was drafted, I'd say.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) NSS, i'm glad you're back. And I'm glad you are still fighting the good fight. I, on the other hand, don't have time for evenhandedness...black and white baby, and i'm Gandolf the white. It's spelled Gandalf

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) Why won't they say a peep about the out of control defense spending? It's hard to take them seriously if that's something they never even consider. Defense spending doesn't count. All that matters is they're giving all my money to those poor, lazy, unemployed totally non-racially divided group folks.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) I watched Yonder Alonso play left field...the Reds better trade him ASAP if they think he's their left fielder of the future. Dude, how long did they play Adam Dunn there?

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) If they can get a draft pick for Lynch, they should do so ASAP. Which is of course the wrong way to do it, if you're a struggling team trying to develop talent. You play guys like Lynch, try to help them work through their problems, and then consider trading them after they've put together a surprise 1300 yard season. You don't draft a guy to move him to 3rd on the depth chart and basically require yourself to release him.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) Another guy who didn't make it. What round did we pick him in? Poor Josh. Hope he has something to fall back on in life if he's a baseball washout. He was our 2004 first round pick. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) I thought it was a total of 6 years of control (4 in contract, two in Arb). Is it more than that? Well yeah, 6 years under our control once he gets to the show. He's like Strasbourg would be; he got a big signing bonus/early contract. If he quit and went to go work in a nuclear plant, he'd lose a lot of money, but if his first contract ends before he's racked up enough time to be arb-eligible and he's made the big leagues, the Sox can just renew his contract.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 08:27 AM) The guy is still 21 in AAA. I'm not ready to write him off. He started last year this way too, then got better each month. If he does that this year, he should be ready to crush AAA in 2011, at age 22, which is fine by me. He's under team control for another 3 years after that. You know that's incorrect, right? We have him for the full set of arbitration years assuming he makes the big leagues at some point.

Ton of photos from today's Barons/Smokies double-header. Will annotate tomorrow.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Nope, I don't. So what's the story on this one? I was making fun of straw. In the Carter Administration in 1979, Carter was trying to promote energy efficiency after the oil crises, and as a symbol of what the everyday American could do, he had solar water heaters installed on the White House roof. The Reagan administration came in and ripped them out. Then slashed all of Carter's energy efficiency programs, killed the tax credits, and pushed hard for more oil usage.

Man this would be a killer lineup Figgins Beckham Teixeira Quentin Lee Aramis Ramirez Pierzynski/Zaun Melky Cabrera And go ahead and put David Ortiz at DH. That'd be like a .450 OPS on the season.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) ARod bypassed Boras in his last contract extension. And I'm pretty sure union rules didn't allow it.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) The Blackhawks are using the stadium. Can they not do back to back nights? the first game was 2 fridays ago. Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, back to Cleveland.

Sweet, I get a double-header tomorrow!

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) At least play every other day and no two days off in between games. This. I like the 7 game opening rd. I hate the 2 offdays. You want extra time off? Sweep.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) And replace the grass outside with straw. Reagan did that too? I figured Carter would have been the one bringing straw in. (Note, I'm making fun of you because I think you don't know your history)

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) Especially the way we develop pitching. And if we do develop it...it's a hell of a tradeable asset.
