So Teahen + 2 million for Getz and a free spot on the 40 man. Teahen could make this worth it, but it's kind of a "Walk will fix him" situation isn't it?

Garfien reports Sox might "revisit" a Thome return
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll take 25 HR and a near .400 OBP from a cheap LH DH, as long as we're not spending $5 mil on it. -
Depends on the price. There's a lot of LH DH options out there (Thome, Johnson, Matsui, hell Podsednik, Bradley, etc.) I'd take him but not at more than a pittance.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Talking about Greg Oden. It's an honest mistake. Someone said the word "Bust" and he just assumed it meant TT. -
Marcus Jordan - Adidas Situation
Balta1701 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) UCF told Jordan he could wear his dad's shoes because their adidas regional rep said it was ok. Then adidas corporate stepped in and said no. If that's the case, I wonder if UCF might have a case against Adidas. -
QUOTE (b-Rye @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) We can't compete with Yankees/Angels/BoSox/Twins unless we get some REAL TALENT here not trading young talent for average players. Didn't the Red Sox just do exactly that?
-
They're not going to let Bay walk just to give Hermidia a spot. They'll let him walk if the Yankees offer him $180/8, but they're not going to let him walk for this guy. The Red Sox always like to have a deep OF, esp with Drew out there who is Mr. Glass. Baldelli was a similar player this year.

Disagree, Sosa might.

Ted Lilly has his shoulder scoped. Will be probably 4 months before he even starts throwing again, likely not ready in April.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who immediately thought of that.

Butts full of needles eventually gets you a title, I guess.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) I know I'm incredibly late on this, but that would make this move pretty good. I'm just wondering if we picked up a guy who only hits well against us. And might this make Dye our DH? If he's re-signed sure, but I still doubt he will be.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) Beckham leads off. Beckham, Rios Nix, Ramirez, and Pods steal bases. Beckham Rios Q I'm really not a fan of the opening of that lineup. Becks just doesn't belong in the leadoff slot; you're going to cost him so many RBI opportunities by putting him there. As written now we don't have a better option, but that is something we need to fix somehow.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) And nothing will change until they amend the union pension benefits. This is not that hard people. Cut the benefits, make the employees pay more into their benefits/healthcare, or make it a mandatory 65 years until you can retire. Yes, it is a hard choice, and no politician has the balls to even mention it, but that is the sad reality. The benefits are not going away, and are only getting worse. Punting on the issue does not solve it. Because as Tex always says, what we really want is a society where you don't retire until you're 75 and you have no health coverage afterwards.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) When he was drafted the A's were in a tizzy about how projectable Teahen was. How he looked like a guy who could grow into a massive amount of power, it never played out, but their are flashes. The A's also expected a lot of guys to develop power based on how Giambi had developed surprising power for his frame. They had a bit of an issue with their data, it turned out.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) I hate all the leadoff hitter talk. Leadoff hitters hit once a game, for one thing. For another thing, OBP trumps speed, you don't HAVE to have a speedster at the top. And most importantly, its just not smart to acquire players based on hitting slot specifically, because you essentially corner yourself in the market and limit your possibilities. This is the same in any line of business. You don't go recruit people that are ideal for a fourth of their job, you recruit people that are best overall for the WHOLE job. You assemble the best 9 guys you can, then make the lineup from there. Who do the Sox have with a legit shot at putting up a quality OBP out of the leadoff spot, without moving one of the guys who ought to be a major run producer lower in the order (i.e. Beckham) there?
-
Good point guys, now I have no idea who leads off for this team next year.
-
Not sure yet how I feel about the deal, but I do think Getz is going to come back to be one of those guys who kills us all the bloody time.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) Count me in on the Adrian Beltre bandwagon. Between Boras being his agent and the fact that he'll probably want a multi-year deal, I'm just not so sure he's a good fit.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) I don't know if it has been said or not, but it could be any one of quite a few things. Teahan has played both corner OF spots and 2B/3B. Teahan could play RF and Becks/Ramirez could stay put. You could also slide both Becks and Ramirez over a spot to SS and 2B respectively, while looking for a 3B (Figgins anyone?), or Teahan could play 3B. You could also slide Teahan into LF with TCQ into right, while not touching the IF. Or maybe they genuinely think Viciedo will stick at 3b.

Has anyone wondered openly yet in this thread if this might allow Becks to move to 2b?
