So they shouldn’t have traded the cost controlled starter for the guy under control for 1 year and spent 1/3 of the money they had available in the process when depth was their biggest need and they gave that away? I agree, that was pretty darn stupid.

I would like this far more than that Rodon deal.

If they are trading away those cost controlled players and taking on salary, then they should at least have enough money to fill out the other key spots on their roster.

So I don’t know how to make the cap hits work for Watson or Stafford when they have an expensive defense and no easy way to drop Foles, but Garoppolo has a very small hit if traded so San Fran could easily swap him out and the Bears could rework that contract without much difficulty.

I never said he didn't have a few dominant outings. I'm pretty sure Dylan Axelrod had a couple. Rodon would have a few good starts in a row where the opposing team was putting balls in play and getting outs, and then would correct upwards with an awful game stretch, like most mediocre pitchers.

He wasn't dominant in the big leagues even when healthy.

He was available right now for what, $160 million over 6 years? With basically no prospect cost coming back? His market here might well have been greater than just as a free agent because hypothetically someone could have offered more prospect talent in exchange for covering his contract.
