“Thinking”? So did he not actually owe that much somehow?
-
I just don't see Carr being moved any time soon because I don't see Watson being moved any time soon. Houston at least for now seems to be playing Brinksmanship with Watson, daring him to skip the season. If Houston was going to be aggressive and just get this done, then the other dominos might begin falling around him. That might change as one of the deadlines (opening of FA or the Draft) approaches, if Watson is still insisting he will not play for the Texans, they might not want to risk having him actually sit out the whole year with no replacement available.

If it becomes endemic, but we can make it such that it isn't severe because your body has been trained against variants of it, that's at least survivable.

Ok, I'll be the one to say it. LaVine isn't worth more than a couple lottery protected picks, and if the Bulls get that for him they should take it.

Let’s have Alicia Keys sing “Lift every voice and sing” and the 10 minutes later play the tomahawk chop. Murica!

You saved me from writing this as it’s entirely my reaction. Thanks.

Yes. The backstory for Peter is that he mostly grew up in the USA, became a thief because he could, in 1973 they enlisted him to help break Magneto out of prison, and he became involved with the X-men after that. He eventually realized that Magneto was his father, met him in Egypt, but for some reason no one understands he never told Magneto that over 2 movies. He is shown with a younger sister dressed in red at the end of DOFP, but apparently there was an edit where he had a similar aged sister that didn’t make the screen. He never was given a twin in that, although the younger sister was implied to be her.

See, I disagree with a lot of this. Wentz and Garoppolo recently quarterbacked teams that went to the Super Bowl. Wentz may not be that QB physically any more I will grant, but you can’t tell me that those guys can’t make the super bowl when they did. And you can’t tell me the Bears don’t have a defense that can make the Super Bowl if they get some help from the offense - the Bears had a better scoring defense in 2019 than the 49ers. Put an average offense on the field with a strong defense and you harm be a team that can make noise.

The two possible results are: trading LaVine for the best package the Bulls can get, or holding onto him for a deal that the Bulls can afford but that significantly hampers them on the Free agent market for several years. The latter option only works well if they can get a complimentary top player somewhere - either letting guys like Lauri and Wendell walk over the next 2 years to clear space, or making a trade somewhere. Like it or not, a big player signing with them or demanding a trade there now...is unlikely. Thinking long term, compiling extra draft picks is the right move for this franchise. With both near-term FAs.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
Balta1701 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in The Diamond Club
As I said, what was going to happen as the holidays approached was no secret as of September. You are saying these people are fools. -
A 4 year deal still is the only concept that makes sense for both sides.
-
You’ve done it. You have written a deal that is terrible for the White Sox. Do you realize how hard that is to do in a Giolito thread?

This is a very high risk deal for Bauer. It assumes he stays healthy the next 2 years and that the market gets fixed in the next FA deal. He could readily have approached $200 million guaranteed with an opt out from the Mets this year - if he stays healthy and dominates for 2 years, he could still land another $200 million deal and come out substantially ahead. But, some minor back, shoulder, or elbow problems could cost him $100 million or more in career earnings. -

Disagree. Boras goes for the maximum total deal. This is the structure Bauer said he wanted - shorter term, more money in those years. -

This only puts them in a better position to compete with us. -

Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox
Balta1701 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A few years ago he wasn’t close to ready. It wasn’t until 2019 after he was sent down from a brief big league stint that his minor league numbers took a real jump. He should have gotten a few more big league ABs last year, but that’s because the big league DH was so bad, not because they needed catching help. -

Yup. -
Serious question - have they had anyone drafted contribute to the big league squad since then? Madrigal, Crochet a tiny bit, right? Hostetler took over in 2016, where Collins and Burdi were drafted? Maybe let's get someone to actually contribute as a successful big leaguer before we emphatically declare that.

I don't think Colome is likely to be "nearly perfect" next year, but I think overall during the year there's a good chance Hendricks and Colome are comparable in terms of save %age. A couple blown saves each, unless one of them gets hurt or falls apart. Where they're different is in the extreme situations. Tie game in extra innings, which one do you want coming in to pitch the 10th and 11th innings to keep things shut down? 2 runners on in the 7th inning of the first round of the playoffs and Bummer already used, which one do you want available for a 2.1 inning save to send you to the next round? You get to the playoffs with Bummer and Hendriks out there...games are over if you get a lead in the middle innings. Is that worth an extra $10 million this season? Yes, if you can get there. The question I still have is - if your starting rotation breaks down because you didn't provide enough depth, and you miss the playoffs by 2 games because one starter got hurt and the back of your rotation crumbled, was that extra $10 million well spent? Obviously not. That's what I mean when I say that RH made deals this offseason assuming he already had a playoff team, rather than trying to ensure he had a playoff team. We will see if that assumption holds.

Which one of them is closing for the Twins?

I mean, I’d take our bullpen too. I’m not sure that I’d take our bullpen and Rodon as the rotation depth over Colome coming back and having $10 million to spend on a real starting pitcher.
