  1. After 2 seasons of near .800 OPS, I mean anything's possible but there's no good reason to think that he'll suddenly get better at any of those things.
  2. However, what you seem to be missing that was subtly in there is that Abreu's defense and baserunning are both bad. A "middle of the league" 1b who is weak defensively and weak on the basepaths is a 0-2 WAR player, and hey that's what Abreu's been the last 2 years.
  3. The White Sox are by far worst in the league in errors from their SS position and in the bottom 1/3 of the league in errors from 3b. Perhaps you're right and the problem is the 1st baseman.
  4. 2 guards placed on leave from that facility. Were supposed to check on him every 30 minutes, were working overtime because prison was understaffed, fell asleep, attempted to falsify login records.
  5. Clearly Abreu on a 1-2 year deal remains fine with me now that people understand the level of hitter he is. Just responding to another example of people using stats in a way that is inappropriate.
  6. That touch over .750 OPS was also while playing 81 games in the very large San Francisco ballpark. That .756 OPS translated to an OPS+ (Park adjusted and scaled so that 100 is average) of 110. Jose Abreu's .795 OPS on this season has produced a 108 OPS+.
  7. On August 13, Chris Sale became the fastest pitcher in MLB history to 2000 strikeouts, easily breaking Pedro Martinez's record.
  8. I honestly don't know who this is referencing. Semien?
  9. He'd be a very interesting fit except he has this issue with people celebrating home runs that makes me concerned about his fit in the locker room with this roster.
  10. You've made it 100% clear you are ok with how 2015 and 2016 went because Abreu was there.
  11. Baseball wide, the average OPS for 1st basemen this season is .797 (including backups). I guess for a 1b who is a good baserunner and a solid defender that average OPS is ok.
  12. Your opinion that 90+ loss seasons are fine continues to baffle me.
  13. Madrigal has more extra base hits this season than Jiminez.
  14. A couple other teams already poached their FO staff last season, so you're getting guys who have only been at the higher levels for a year or so.
  15. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/08/13/we-turned-gary-thornes-gleyber-torres-home-run-calls-into-poem-its-amazing/
  16. Because the Padres are loaded with talent/Manny Machado makes all the difference?
  17. Per the guidelines of this forum, political talk is not allowed here and therefore several unrelated posts were removed from this thread.
  18. It's out of date now, but I thought at the time that a big part of the organization's minor league philosophy was more "don't screw this guy up and let him learn on his own" rather than "We need to work hard with this guy". That this perspective also provided them a ready made excuse for the coaching staff to not have to put in extra work...was probably more than just a coincidence. So when guys came up that clearly did need work, rather than doing it themselves, they shipped them away.
  19. Even the year when he was a terrible fielder you could already see him saying "Washington spent 10 minutes with me and made positive suggestions and was the first person doing drills with me at SS Since college".
  20. So Cleveland took 3/4 from Minnesota and now they've stormed all the way back to tie the AL Central up.
  21. It would also be asking the warm market teams to give up their most valuable mid-summer dates to help out teams from colder climates, being on the road in July and home in April, which they don't want to do.
  22. I'd go so far as to say that under Rick Hahn the big league level acquisitions they've made, whether by trade or FA, look awful overall. When he goes after a big leaguer he overpays and trades away guys he shouldn't for guys that underperform. When he goes for a free agent he gets mostly guys that underperform. His minor league deals...well they're at least better than the big league work.
  23. There is a decent chance that the 2019 white sox DH is the worst position below average performance in MLB history. I legit want to see one of the stat companies tell me where they rank. someone should ask this during a ch at.
  24. Good lord. Coming into today the white sox have a .562 OPS out of the DH spot this season.
