What team that did this last offseason is succeeding? The team that I thought did this the most was the Twins.

He should get a few weeks at AAA, because every hitter should get a few weeks at AAA. Conveniently a few weeks at AAA puts him up right after the super-2 deadline. I don't know why he's still at AA honestly, he's earned a callup at this point.

F*** you you F***ing enabler why didn't you resign why couldn't you bother to say this while you were in your job you sellout. Your legacy is dismantling the state department and going along with a guy who called a march of Nazis "fine people". Congrats.

So far with guys that fell to us as starting pitchers with injury concerns high in the first round, I think we've seemed to be ok with the risk, and honestly it hasn't worked out poorly even with Rodon.

And if they do "gouge", raise prices beyond what is required based on the raw materials, basic economics - their competitors will be able to undercut their prices unless the full market is a monopoly. Alcohol isn't. So if you're seeing a $.10 a can increase, buy something else.
-
Exactly. They will charge what a competitive marketplace requires, "whatever they can get away with", so if a company "Gouges" by raising prices beyond the few cents increase due to aluminum cost increases, you shift to the company that is choosing not to gouge.

I can guarantee that my friends at Moose Drool will be happy for the extra business this month.

Buy a different brand that is taking the opportunity to undercut their competitor's silly pricing?

WTF does "Cost of money is going up" even mean? Cost of goods going up is somewhat normal, in fact we've been so far under the inflation goals for the last decade that cost of goods should be allowed to go up at 3-4% for the next few years. Cost of gasoline is going up in part because of the lunatic threatening people, but also in part because there's been a long enough economic expansion that people are burning more gas and US Customers have forgotten what it is like to pay $3 a gallon and are buying the low-mileage SUVs again (Ford literally last week announced they're giving up manufacturing passenger cars. Great future planning). The increase in fuel costs will probably slow overall growth, as it has before, but it will also spur a lot more domestic oil production as drilling on land collapsed 2 years ago when the prices plummeted, eventually that will even out the spike again and prices will over-drop.
-
If the price goes up more than a couple cents its because they're using it as an excuse to gouge you. You're smarter than this.

If a study doesn't take into account the time of day that the car is charging compared to the time when the electric grid is at peak demand then you have wasted my time. If you are running a plant overnight to charge extra cars you are dramatically increasing the efficiency of the entire system because even for gas systems there is a benefit to keeping them running (Coal, nuclear, and wind have much larger benefits if you charge overnight). This is a standard lobbyist type paper. Take into account the factors that are most beneficial to you, neglect a few other ones casually, and then hope that people aren't educated enough to notice.

His chief insight is usually "I want to go back to the days when I could pretend minorities weren't actually people and everyone listened to me." It's there.

It's time to talk about the Sox young pitching
Balta1701 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Someone posted his "release point" data in the last game that he was pitching and there was a clear distinction between where his hand was releasing his fastball from his curveball, something hitters can likely pick up on. I think you've got a combination of not being ready for the weather and a guy struggling for consistency with his delivery. His stuff is good enough to beat AAA level hitters, but he has to work through these difficulties and develop consistency and better ways to attack hitters before he can turn into a big league pitcher. -
Gambling Can Help Make Baseball America's Pastime (Again)
Balta1701 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In 1919 it is alleged that several members of the White Sox took bribes from gamblers to throw the 1919 World Series, so that gamblers could bet on the winning team. They were nicknamed the "Black Sox" after this, and the players in question were banned from baseball. Caulfield's posting style usually involves listing everything remotely relevant, or not, on a subject. There was probably very little influence of a 1919 team on politics in the early 1990s when the most recent version of the casino legislation was passed. Pete Rose would have been a more recent memory, but if you go back to statements from 1991 what really drove it was a combination of lobbying from the major sports leagues who were trying to protect their business model from competition and religious opposition to gambling, which is still strong enough to prevent some states from opting in. -
You're the one who said scrap heap guys were easy to find in the pitching staff. Why don't you answer your own question?
-
Right now the top 2b in baseball by fWAR are: Jed Lowrie (scrap heap) Asdrubal Cabrera (Scrap heap) Ozzie Albies (International Free Agent) Yoan Moncada (traded as a prospect, International Free Agent) Robinson Cano (High priced free agent) Daniel Robertson (traded to the Rays as part of Ben Zobrist deal years ago, drafted by the A's) Cesar Hernandez (International Free Agent) Jose Altuve (International Free Agent, now expensive) I'm skeptical that your statement has any real support.
-
5 years ago in White Sox land: CF Alejandro De Aza SS Alexei Ramirez RF Alex Rios DH Dayan Viciedo 1b Adam Dunn 3b Jeff Keppinger LF Casper Wells C Tyler Flowers 2b Tyler Greene P: Santiago, Lindstrom, Omogrosso, Heath 10-3 Twins win.
-
I've thought about that, but at the same time, he had a rough first half last year too.
-
And I'm totally ok with that for the next 5 years as our 5th or 6th place hitter. With his strikeout rate and HR rate he'll luck into some years better than that and probably have a year or two worse than that.
-
I think Davidson certainly has power comparable to those guys, but yes his numbers are likely to come down from where they are right now. Drop the HR rate somewhat and he's still shaping up like a useful player.

I'm still high on several of these guys as struggling for a year is exactly what we should have expected from them. That includes guys walking the world, giving up tons of HR after falling behind in the count, etc. The one thing that is worrying me is the low number of strikeouts because eventually you do have to be able to put guys away. -
The trick is the bolded here. When you have 10 guys who were thought at one point to have potential and who got to the big leagues, if you give them playing time, a couple of them will turn into something useful. That is what we're doing this year, filtering those guys out. I'm genuinely surprised that Delmonico isn't hitting better, but that's how things turn out, some guys break out and others don't.
