  1. Let's figure out some other way to help newcomers.
  2. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) He does not recall. Why does our Attorney General have the worst memory? See this is the part where you start saying "what exactly are they covering up"? If they didn't do anything wrong there was no reason for him to lie about these meetings in the first place.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) I mean, if someone is doing that, you probably have more to fear than them accessing your phone. In a few years if you walk through an airport, there will probably be enough high resolution cameras to capture your face at enough angles to allow you to reconstruct this type of login from what is collected (basically the same thing as the facial recognition they're trying to use).
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) That was an oddly worded sentence in the middle of that article. What I took from the article is that it's the availability that is the biggest problem. I don't know much about gun laws of the other countries in those charts. Do they restrict what type or how many their citizens can own? Yes. Basically all of the developed world. Some of them even started because they started having mass shootings. They then either stopped having them or found themselves having far fewer.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 11:59 PM) Must not be at a state school because they don't pay us squat. You can literally figure out the school I'm at by reading beneath my name at the left
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) Some interesting numbers here: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/07/world/am...ernational.html "This suggests that the guns themselves cause the violence."
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 05:28 PM) Id bet almost anything it’s definitely happened at some point. Literally right now the Republican Party can do something about it. They can vote for a vastly better human being. Or they can refuse to seat him and give up a vote available to them in the Senate when he wins. We will see. None of their statements about how they wouldn't work with Trump held for a second.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Do you have further examples of Dems defending sexual predators within their ranks in order to win elections? If you want good reason to buy the Juanita Broddrick rape allegation against Bill Clinton it's outlined here. It's pretty strong and the comebacks are the sort of "why isn't the victim acting like I expect them to" that we should stop doing. Many of the others did not hold up based on physical claims, but that one does seem to stand out.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) But you have to physically have someones phone right? And a 3-D map of their face in detail. If someone imaged and 3-D printed your face and added some color it could work. Interestingly I haven't thought about this before, but this does solve the "Law enforcement can't unlock your phone without the passcode" issue if they can just hold it in front of the person's dead body.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Enough about Brian's personal life. How was everyone's weekend? Field trip! No students hurt, lots of granite, so success.
  11. I think 20 years ago Beltran does not get in. He doesn't have any of the "Qualifying stats" like 500 home runs or whatever to get in. Closest thing he's got is top 50 all time RBI, but he's only 30 ahead of McGriff and McGriff didn't make it. But...in the modern era, he's sitting at 67 career WAR and that's a hall of fame caliber number. I do think there will need to be some campaigning for him, but it'll be one of those that builds up into a yes vote over a few years of comments.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) This is awesome...I know I've said this before, but I will always think of you as the character Sheldon in Big Bang Theory
  13. Did not expect this was where this thread would go while I was off camping.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) I am not on a team. I am conservative ideologically when it comes to fiscal policy and government. So if Trump wastes money with spending policy or a republican candidate is accused of rape, that's not a knock on me. If you think I align with these southern evangelical conservatives you're just being a lazy American with the partisan politics. I realize both sides are inept. Also, I posted a link on an actor being an idiot. I don't see why you think I have to answer for the republican party as a result. A child molester is on a path to being elected the Senator from Alabama. He is going to vote to support the tax cuts you want for "conservative fiscal policy". He is also going to push the kinds of evangelical policies you slightly disparage there as his main goal. You don't live in his state. But you're going to vote for Republicans in the Senate and House who will be able to pass their policies using his vote. You have a choice here. You can decide that until the Republicans expel an actual child molester from the Senate - which they will have the ability to do - you won't vote for Republicans at the national level. Or, you can say "I'm ok enough with child molestation to still vote for Republicans at the National Level as long as I get my tax cut package". People who voted for Republicans at the national level in the last election already said that last sentence with sexual assault, now they get to say it with statutory rape. The Republican part of Alabama and a number of national commenters have made it clear that they are absolutely ok enough with child molestation to look the other way if it was reported on by the Washington Post or if the guy says he loves Jesus enough. All that is left is for the entire party to say it. We have a guy who I'd consider to be quite corrupt as the Senator from New Jersey. He will probably not get convicted because the (Republican dominated) supreme court eviscerated the public corruption laws a couple years ago, but he should be. That said - his vote is protecting health care coverage for 20 million people right now. If he is removed before Januar, Chris Christie gets to appoint his replacement and that could well end health care coverage for that huge pile of people. So can I tolerate a corrupt Senator for another 2 months to keep that many people alive? Yeah I'm ok with that. It's money. I'll even take a hung jury for now - it's not like he raped someone. Would I tolerate a child molester for that? I sure hope not.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) HW Bush is facing another allegation, this time that he groped a 16 year old back in 2002 He basically admitted this and said in his statement "This is a joke he's been using for a long time", so yeah he's a creepy old guy who has been taking advantage of girls and admitted it. He wouldn't have just started doing that when he wound up in a wheelchair, it was something he was ok doing for a long time. Nothing will ever happen to him. We ought to judge him based on this. His presidential library is on campus here and I can say with confidence I'm not paying for that ticket. I can't do much, but I can do that.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Not in the lineup Thursday or Friday. My mind already tried to do "did he get called up?!". Alas.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) Gregg likes to ignore the facts to make s*** up as he goes along to support his whiny narrative. Hahn and the front office think the Sox next window won't begin until 2020. That puts Abreu beyond his current contract and at age 33. Abreu could be a player that ages well, then again he may not. Honestly, I think it would be better for the Sox and Abreu to trade him to a contender now. Sox get a few more prospects and Abreu gets a shot at playing post season baseball in 2018/19. If Abreu would take a 4 year deal I'd sign him to it. I don't know that he would.
  18. Krampus please don't let this continue through Christmas
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) I do think it is a reaction at times to guilt over decisions made while intoxicated. While that can certainly happen, that doesn't mean it's even the majority. Even attempting to make the accusation is going to put you through hell. If you were intoxicated and couldn't consent, how do you prove what happened to you? Ready for the intrusive medical exam? Ready to be cross examined about something you can't remember perfectly where your statements won't hold together because you were too intoxicated to consent?
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 05:15 PM) Can you imagine if LAA had the money for that? 2. Trout 3. Stanton 4. Upton That would be something. Weren't the Angels up near the Luxury tax line a couple years ago? Yeah I just checked and they hit $180 mil in 2016. B-R has them all the way down to $140 committed right now counting arbitration cases. They might well have room.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) A neighbor of mine is a retired CPD detective. He once told me you wouldn't believe how many hungover DePaul coeds came into the station on a Saturday and Sunday morning claiming they were raped. 99 times out of 100, they would leave after being questioned without pressing charges. That does not mean no rape happened. There are state officials in Alabama calling for charges against the person who said Roy Moore raped her when she was 14 for making the accusation.
  22. Everyone hates Jose Abreu. Everyone.
