  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:07 AM) Sun Times bosses reprimanding Cowley over his articles would be like Kim Chee telling Kamala to stop rubbing his belly. Haha, awesome!
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) Some people don't like to suck up. Personally I don't like to suck up at work. Prolly why I'm not on the path to being rich, yet. Not surprising. I assume you're this guy:
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:29 PM) 1.) The article is in a MAJOR NEWSPAPER. The reporter's job is at stake. If article is true and why wouldn't it be, then I am horrified at Coop's smarmyness. BAD! 2.) Milk, a respected poster called you out pretty bad today as well. You are not a perfect poster by any means. 3.) Ozzie did not do what it alleges Coop of doing. Coop is doing a behind the back stabbing. That is SAD. And no ballplayer on the White Sox will respect that kind of behavior. Like I said, Cowley got a MAJOR SCOOP here if it's true. And he should be fired if it's not true, so it's likely true. I LOVE the Oz text to Coop. And I'm not sure what was "called out pretty bad".
  4. LOL, could this be any more obvious to anyone? -Ozzie Jr. -Ozzie or Cora (probably Ozzie) -Oney
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) I think the Cowley hate can get over the top on this board, but that is one of the most embarrassing pieces of journalism I have ever seen. This about wraps up any chances of having access with the coaching staff and front office. I hope being Guillen's b**** was worth it in the end. Seriously, if the guy were smart, he'd have backtracked and tried to suck up to the current coaches and players. He's just burning those bridges right down to the ground. Nobody will talk to him. They probably wouldn't have anyway, but this way he'd have a chance.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) Everybody was killing Cowley. Then this post comes in... You know, the change of pace is somewhat nice. But we all know Cowley's an absolute joke. The hilarious part is that he belittles Cooper for "looking out for #1" when that is exactly what Ozzie did.
  7. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:15 PM) Greg is someones gimmick account right? Sometimes it's hard to doubt that.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Amazing column by Cowley. Wow. Cooper was THAT MUCH of a snake? Wait til the players read this. Horrible joke of a franchise. I just knew KW was sucking up and this proves it. And Cooper? The people who have said what a rotten personality he has? This just makes sense he'd look out for No. 1. I LOVE Ozzie's text to Coop. It's Ozzie's way of letting him know bout Judas. If this is true, Cowley deserves a sports Pulitzer for the scoop. And to think I today was thinking Coop deserved the job over Ventura. Coop sounds like he may ruin the clubhouse next year when this story is made public to the players. Nobody likes a backstabber. Nobody! Sweet Jesus Christ. With all of the hate people were spewing towards that article, I knew you'd love it, but those first two sentences are even more golden than I would have expected.
  9. QUOTE (shakes @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) I think we know how you feel. The arguments supporting may be weak, and I would feel more comfortable with other hires, but it is foolish to assume he is a failure just because he is inexperienced. Just like it would be with other candidates. I'm willing to wait and see and avoid the hyperbole. There is a lot more to be determined about this teams fate before I jump ship. The roster construction is way more important, in my eyes, than the manager for next season. I don't believe I said he'd be a failure. He may very well be a great manager down the line, but at this time, he's a bad choice. There were candidates more qualified and better groomed out there. Ventura could have been given a minor league managing position or a bench coach opportunity with the hope of him maybe eventually becoming the manager.
  10. QUOTE (shakes @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) I have. Have you read some of the things you have written? I get it, it's a weird, and questionable hire, to say the least. But, the hyperbole is out of control. Reasons for doubt are evident, but if this team doesn't improve the product on the field, the manger will be the least of the problem. Robin has zero experience, but a lot of tools to be a good manager. We will have to wait and see, but I am not ready to write him off just yet. And honest to God, I bet there are fans out there that fit that exact same description. I feel like some of the arguments supporting Ventura are weak, and I wanted to throw some of my own out there to draw the comparison.
  11. QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) Funny, I don't feel so bad rooting for the Tigers even with the pounding they gave us this year. If the Cardinals somehow pull out their series, I won't have a problem with any remaining team winning it all. I'd probably prefer a team that hadn't won before, but none would anger me.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Could Cowley be any more of a joke? I wouldn't think so, but I can't put it past him. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) So now Joey is coming to the rescue to save face for Guillen. So Cooper is a bad guy for asking for an extension, and telling Kenny about the circus act going on in the dugout? Go f*** yourself Joe Let's not worry too much about Cowley. Nobody will give the guy an interview. He'll be out of a job soon enough.
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) On Sunday I told my father-in-law that if I were a Tigers fan, I would have wanted Valverde to blow at least one save during the season because he is going to blow one eventually and better during the season than playoffs. We'll see here soon. I believe Lidge was perfect throughout the season and postseason in 2008. And as of a second ago, Valverde has been, too. TIGERS WIN!
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) Milk, I respect your incredible ability to be consistently and unwaveringly pessimistic, but now it seems like you're just going to grasp at anything you can here... Your experience argument is a fair one, but other than that, none of us really know much about what kind of manager he's going to be. Can we at least reserve SOME judgement until we see his team play for a few months? Sure, but people have brought up how much Ventura is liked by his peers several times. I think it's fair to suggest that his nice guy attitude could also be a detriment. Ozzie was also a nice guy to the players he liked. The one thing I like so far is that he already spoke about accountability. If he benches guys for lack of hustle and sticks to his word (very much unlike Ozzie), then I will start to change my mind. Until then, he gets no benefit of the doubt from me. This team has made a ton of wrong choices in the last few years. They now have to prove it before I'll buy into their hype for any player, coach, or manager.
  15. QUOTE (shakes @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:27 PM) This is where skeptisism turns into whining. I get where people are afraid of his lack of experience, but a fan could manage the team? That is talk radio meathead garbage, at its finest. Managers need the respect of the players and there is no fan that would get that. I am doubting this hire, but willing to give Robin a chance. To start claiming a fan could manage is really puting you into cartoon character pessimism. It was exaggeration for effect. I hope you read the entire thread up to that point.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) I despise every single one of your posts. You are by far the most arrogant and condescending person on this board. +1
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) He could have said, 'Thanks but no thanks" You act like Ventura needs money, he made over $60mil in his playing career. Dave Martinez needs the money, Ventura doesnt. Ventura could buy Ozzie guillen. How could you possibly know something like that?
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) He was a spring training instructor for a couple of years. I've never met him, but supposedly he's impossible not to like. I never liked him as much as most as a player, but I'm kind of giddy about this. With his nice guy attitude and player friendliness, I fear that the players won't have much of a problem ignoring or walking all over him once they're used to him.
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Look...I'm not pissed about Robin Ventura in general...he may turn out to be a very good manager at some point down the road. But we're not in complete rebuild mode. I think what pisses me off is the blatant "cronyism" that this friggin organization has turned into...loyalty to a fault. This is almost like a bad remake of a Blues Brothers movie "we're gettin' the band back together"....or not to bring politics into this but Obama appointing his under qualified cronies to posts. Like a said...I'll give him a chance...but would it have killed Kenny "The Genius" Williams/JR to at least go thru the goddamn interview process and at least give the appearance of doing due diligence instead of some knee jerk hiring it seems the entire baseball world is scratching their head over. Very nicely put. I couldn't have said it so nicely or as level-headed.
  20. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Wow. A lot of overreaction here, in my opinion. I think the guy knows baseball, and it seems like he has the respect of the players. We'll have to wait and see. I'm tired of this argument. It stands to reason that the vast majority of ex-players know the game of baseball. So, the signing could have been almost any former decently-tenured player, and people should be happy with it.
  21. Anyone know how long Chicago Animal Control will hold a dog before it's put to sleep? My dad brought our dog in anonymously early on Tuesday. I was unaware until a few minutes ago that he was brought to CAC, as I was told that he was flat-out put down. So, I and my siblings had come to grips with the loss of the dog, and now I find out that he's likely still alive. The problem is that I don't have the room for him and he's been having accidents during the night. Admittedly, the accidents are mostly due to my siblings still in the house forgetting to let him out at night. My dad didn't tell any of the family that he was putting the dog down, just did it. It sucked, but I felt like there wasn't much to be done about it. It was already done and I took comfort in the fact that he was brought there by a member of the family. Now, I can't help but feel terrible that he's probably just sitting there in a cage confused and scared, with a clock simply counting down the last few days and minutes of his life.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) How is pointing out what people actually said mocking? The majority of posters could do a better job than Ozzie. Do we really think Robin is going to do worse than the average poster here? So I'm relaxing and feeling OK with the choice. But we also know from another poll that the average poster here could also be a better GM than KW, so maybe somewhere in there there is a possibility that Robin could be worse than Ozzie. But all he has to do to be a major upgrade is be as good as the average poster, doesn't that make you feel better about the pick? Nope, no condescension or mocking attitude there.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Milkman, This is why I dont waste time in this forum, where did I ever say that no experience would make Ventura good? I merely stated that before everyone freaks out about no experience, that there have been successful coaches with no experience. That doesnt mean that no experience = good, it just means that no experience does not have to equal bad. I dont know if you seriously cant understand the difference, or if you feel that if you play dumb Ill somehow trip up and make an absurd statement. Ill hope for the latter. Yep, I'm very stupid.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) We all can't be like you. You're never wrong, so you don't have to admit to anything. I admit to being wrong all the time. Speaking of Tex dropping in to be condescending, that's also your MO.
