If we lose Hahn, I'm going to be disappointed that we decided we had to keep KW around.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) So better TV villan... Gus from Bad, or Ben from LOST. I never could get into Lost, so I couldn't say. It's hard to top Gus, though. The only characters I can think of to give him a run for his money are over-the-top caricatures of evil people. Lost just seemed to make s*** up as it went while somehow convincing people that there was a larger picture the entire time.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 09:15 AM) I, too, finally got to watch it... Walt is officially evil. I enjoyed the shot of Gus's half-face, if only to ensure he won't be back next season. The only way he's returning to AMC is on The Walking Dead. I presume authorities will be curious why he was visiting Saltamaca. That + the laundromat explosion is sure to gain Hank the recognition he deserves. Walt is evil as f***. Walt is a super-genius. To continue to cook would be silly, but obvoiusly they will since there's more show. That scene at the end, centering on the Lillies of the Valley... that would have been a perfect way to end the series. What an intense f***ing season. I was very happy to see Gus be blown to smithereens, but also part of me wasn't happy. It's weird. I find it comical that Walt became the biggest villain, yet I still sort of root for him. This show is the cream of the crop. A couple of things. I'm sure Gus will be back a few times in flashback form. They made the season finale also work as a series finale on purpose, as they weren't sure they were going to be brought back because of the negotiations with AMC. I completely agree with your sentiment on losing the character of Gus. I grew to absolutely love that character. I was on my feet when the explosion happened, but I knew I'd miss that antagonist. I'm at the point now that I'm not rooting for Walt anymore. I want him to continue to further to plot, obviously, but I'm definitely rooting for Hank to take him down and for Jesse to be the one to walk away unscathed.

Iran based terror plot disrupted
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) There is also the assumption being made that if the FBI hadn't have caught this early, there never would have been a advancement of the plot or attack. If they are actively trying to set up an attack, I don't think that is a fair assumption. If the FBI doesn't supply them, you can't just assume no one else would. That's what I was saying. -
"sometimes you need a rally beer"
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth shut... QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Your league sucks. Exactly, for both of these. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) "and the 4th inning is the beer inning." QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) Umpire: Okay, let’s go over the ground rules. You can’t leave first until you chug a beer. Any man scoring has to chug a beer. You have to chug a beer at the top of all odd-numbered innings. Oh, and the fourth inning is the beer inning. Chief Wiggum: Hey, we know how to play softball Ah, you guys beat me to it. -
What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
Milkman delivers replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Well, Kevin Davidoff of Newsday thinks the Yankees should trade for Danks, among other moves. Link His impression is that Danks, coming off a down year but with good peripherals is not going to exact a gargantuan price in prospects. Not sure what that means, but he doesn't appear to think the Yankees should use what I assume are their top prospects (Jesus Montero , Dellin Betances, Manny Banuelos or Mason Williams) to get him, but maybe some of what I assume are there next level down prospects (Austin Romine, Gary Sanchez, Adam Warren, Slade Heathcott). Also I'm not sure he is suggesting all four of them, but at least you get the idea of what someone on the outside thinks Danks is worth. This guy? -
Sox Underdogs Again, Just What They Needed
Milkman delivers replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) Saying the Sox shouldn't worry about the Cubs is like telling Pepsi not to worry about Coke. After the hardcore baseball fans you have the folks that go to a game or two a year. There are lots of them. The club is in a battle to sell tickets, advertising, and TV ratings. Their biggest competitor makes a bold move, advantage competitor. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) The 2 seasons that the Sox have made the playoffs under the KW regime, there were no expectations nationally(I say nationally because this board was actually pretty excited about the 05 team) so in that regard I actually agree with Marty. The two best posts in this thread. -

Walker to interview with ATL and SD
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 07:45 AM) The idea that all he taught was "lift and pull" was wrong. Some of us said so at the time. Those were the types of players he had and he was working with their strengths. I believe that some of the biggest complaints this year were that not enough players were pulling the ball and there was a decrease in power. He obviously was not getting through to players this year or that they didn't want to listen. Maybe they were tired of Ozzie and they thought he was an Ozzie guy. Who knows but Walker is well respected in baseball and will get a job if he wants one. I only said that people were complaining about him even in 2005, not that it was entirely warranted. People revise history (especially in regards to posting tendencies) a lot around here. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 05:49 AM) Seems as if the Braves called him. I believe in another thread it was supposed that Walker would never even have another interview. Like I said, DA deserves credit there. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) The guy is a great gm people. He's made bad moves just like every general manager but he's one of the best in the game. Huge get for the Cubs. EDIT: I'm actually also very interested to see what compensation Boston is going to get for him. If we could get 2 decent prospects for a not so great manager then you'd think the price for a top end gm would be pretty steep. I've never heard of a GM getting "traded" before. Is that even possible the same way a manager can be?

How is Unser not everyone's favorite SOA character? You know this is just going to lead to his death, but he's selfless in about every situation I can recall. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) Best Tosh in a while. I keep forgetting to watch that this year. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Join me in the 1% I don't think I know what you're saying.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) I just rediscovered it, and now I think it's my new favorite word. It's pretty fun. It is. I'm already waiting for a chance to use it in real life.

20 worst contracts in baseball
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
The A-Rod one, to me, is the most shocking and scary. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) Kinda tough to narrow it down to a top 50. Damn straight. There are a lot out there to like already, and a new girl is turning 18 every day.

This also takes the cake for most times I've seen the word "cocksure" used, by far.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) I think they said he was let go or left after they made these two. So don't hold your breath yet. Ha Way to bring it right back down, ya jerk QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) Is less about me needed to watch dumber shows and more about you needing to stop being such a dickhead and cocksure about things. I see you are firmly planted on that high horse, but maybe tone it down a bit. That or I just ignore your cocksure comments (when it comes to TV shows, at least), which is probably the only reasonable way this turns out. Perhaps that's the best idea. I haven't seen anybody else complain.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) Hm. I can't say that's a bad bet. Both will be huge and seen by me on opening night. With all of the preparation they've gone through for The Avengers (doing years of buildup and giving each character at least one movie), you'd have to figure that anything less than the highest grossing movie of the year would be a disappointment.

Very good to know. The firing of Darabont worried me.

What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
Milkman delivers replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) The whole thread is based off of the pretty real idea that John Danks is going to be traded this off season. That has been stated in multiple places. I see no problem with having a discussion about what is realistic to expect for him. Its not like it is a thread about what we could get for Sergio Santos or Dayan Viciedo who we know aren't going anywhere. I didn't say this thread, but this kind of thread. I'm obviously reading this one, but I wouldn't if there were no merit to the scenario. -
What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
Milkman delivers replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 07:40 AM) Its the off season. I understand, but I at least like to have some shred of reality to it. If a thread is started due to a rumor picked up by an actual journalist, then it doesn't seem so futile. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Adding to this pissing contest, I don't think it was 100% certain that Walt poisoned Brock until the last few minutes of the show. I completely forgot about the gun spinning scene where it landed on the plant, and I assumed (as i'm sure 99% of the audience did) that Gus did it as an additional way to drive a wedge between Jessie and Walt. The only time I started to question that was Walt's reaction to Jessie saying that Brock was going to be ok. He was a little too relieved about that news. The shot of the plant at the end just confirmed it. I believe that's how most people got it, as did I. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 01:59 AM) How do you know he had no plans to kill him? See, you say things so definitively like there is no exception. How do you know he hasn't just been waiting for Hector to finally "look at him" and then he would kill him? How do you know he wasn't just waiting for a better, more appropriate time to kill him? You have no idea if he had no plans to kill Hector, yet you say things so cocksure and any other opinion is wrong. Joe, I'm gonna give up. Anyone could see that Gus had no plans to kill him. If you can't even get that, perhaps you should watch something a little more ham-fisted.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) But I love it. It seems that Gus is taking too much enjoyment in mocking him now, though. I feel like it might come back to him. Sweet, I forgot I even said this

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) Yep. While it's fun to throw around prospect names, it's why I try and stay out of these type of threads. Same here. These and the "what would you do" threads seem like exercises in futility to me. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 01:15 AM) Yes, "get his" as, "kill him". My guess was that Hector would eventually "be killed by Gus". And you said you didn't think he would. And in the end, I was right, and you were wrong. It doesn't matter if everything suggests the opposite would happen, because that's what a TWIST in a show is. Everything made the audience think that Gus would end up torturing Hector for the rest of his life, but I had a feeling that Gus would eventually take matters in to his own hands. You disagreed, and I was right. That's was the point of bringing it up in this instance, as a reference to show that you are not always right, so you may not be right this time either. I said he had no plans to kill Hector. This was 100% true. I didn't say "under no circumstances will Gus ever kill Hector" or anything of that nature.
