  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) It's been made pretty clear that this statement is completely wrong. AJ is really uncomfortable with having a potential "Replacement" around, and he doesn't seem like the gentlest teaching personality anyway. But I can't remember ever having seen an article about how AJ was taking Flowers under his wing in Spring Training or anything like that. Heck, this article is dripping with that sentiment...AJ wants to be the starter, he knows that as of right now he deserves to be a starting catcher, his body can take it and he's one of the top 20 producers in MLB at the catching position...why shouldn't he play a few more years and why should he have to take a seat for the kid... I'm pretty sure there was an article last offseason that basically had AJ saying that he would not mentor his replacement. As to the preference of some posters on this board to keep aging/declining (sometimes flat-out bad) players in starting positions over potential younger replacements, I swear some of you would welcome back Carlton Fisk as the 2012 starting CF.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) What I liked the most was Ozzie's statement that he wasn't ready to throw in the towel. If Jake is still strong enough to compete I say that's a good thing. He has all off season to rest and recuperate for 2012. You go out battling! Yeah, that would just be stupid. With 21 games left and down ONLY 9 games, we'd be absolute morons to come to terms with reality. Ozzie never gives up, he's such a gamer. He definitely deserves a contract extension with such stubborne...er, balls! QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) I wish Peavy would look to go away Amen.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) On the bright side, at least Alex Rios and Adam Dunn know they have had bad years now. If the players don't require the boos to know that they are disappointing the fans, then they don't need cheers to know when they've pleased the fans.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) Looks a lot like Outbreak with Hoffman. Replace a town with the world...same idea. That was the first I can think of chronologically, and a movie I really enjoyed. But the premise has been done quite a few times, especially when you stretch it to things like 28 Days Later, I Am Legend (awful), etc.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) Contagion getting some solid reviews. I feel like that movie has been made a few times already.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) Soxtalk should instigate a riot during Sox fest if there are no changes made. That'll show em! Haha, but I'd seriously be in for a picket line or something.
  7. QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Holy s***, I seriously can't picture Ray McKinnon in a different role than the one he played in Deadwood. His presence in the new SoA is really freaking me out. He's like the 10th actor from Deadwood to appear on SOA.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) I'm fine with the term as long as you also include the fact that he was taking BP not too long ago, has the best out pitch in baseball, and was dominant for long stretches of the season into consideration. If he's still a "mental midget" despite all those other facts, then it's just dumb. I have a feeling that this is going to become the new "Peavy is a Cy Young winner"
  9. I will be flying on Sunday
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) No i was saying I recall you bringing up pretty much this exact scenario we're in very early in the season. Like way before it all went to s*** Well, in that case:
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) Yeah you've been pretty consistent about the worst case scenario ever since May I'm not sure if you're just agreeing or taking a shot at me
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) "Ya know Stone Poney, after everything that's happened this year; Dunn, Rios, Beckham, Peavy, injuries to Carlos and such...to still finish in 2nd place? I believe this season has been saved. I think Kenny, Ozzie, and this whole bunch deserves a chance to go for it again next year." Been warning about that since basically the first month of the season.
  13. Wouldn't this be a Diamond Club thread? Because otherwise, it just looks like you're trying to justify the White Sox sucking.
  14. Sons Of Anarchy coming out strong for its fourth season.
  15. I just watched The Man From Earth, based on reviews I've heard in here. I really enjoyed it, despite it looking every bit of a made-for-TV movie.
  16. I don't see them trading both Floyd and Danks.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) If he retires I'd love to offer him the job as the bench coach That'd be fine by me. People counting on Peavy next year are making a big mistake, IMO. You'd need to have a capable 6th starter ready for when he inevitably goes down. And to call Quentin a consistent producer seems incorrect, as I'm pretty sure he's been hot and cold this year (and going back a few years).
  18. I know a couple of people who would.
  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) "The penises of two of the victims will be attached to the top of the head of the lead segment." I don't even know what that means. I assume it's that two men have their penises cut off and sewn onto the head of the front person to look like antennae.
  20. There can't be any possible way that Vizquel plays again in 2012 or that we offer him a contract.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) LMAO I hope that's false news. If not, they lost a paying customer until his contract expires. f*** when his contract expires. The audacity of signing him to an extension will turn me off on this team possibly for good. Allowing him to ride out the last year on his contract? I can maybe see that. I wouldn't watch a single game that season, but I'd come back in 2013. But to give him an extension? That's a complete slap in the face of the entire fan base.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) According to most of the board we were done in May, so why are we still worried about it then? We knew we would be out of it due in large part to Ozzie, and he went right ahead and showed us to be right.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) Another great family film is just around the corner. Read the short plot synopsis. What the f***...
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) really, really curious to know what his chilean backstory is now. I'm also leaning towards Walter's cancer coming back at some point, amybe to give him motivation to go away with a bang. I think the cancer has to come back for sure, as that is the obvious and likely end to the series. And next season is the final one. Completely agreed on wanting to know the Chilean story. They've done an incredible job on that show of expanding much further than just Walter. So many intriguing characters, and they're really giving each one of them their own mini-storyline. I can't wait for Mike's.
  25. I voted for Humber, but only because I love stories like his. Plus the guy has been hit by a line drive in like the last three games he's pitched. He deserves my support.
