QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) If you are going to stop and rationalize it, do it all of the way. "All-in" for the White Sox doesn't mean a $300,000,000 payroll with an all-star at every position. It means $125 million, with some holes in the team. The idea that it means something more than that is just silly. Taking a TV commercial and turning into the best team eva isn't reality either. I actually said at the beginning of the season, when everyone was eating the "all-in" crap up, that eventually when the team failed, people would rationalize it by saying that it was just an ad campaign and nothing else. Maybe you really believe it or maybe you don't, I dunno. I just find it funny.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) It's statements like this that make detractors look ridiculous. Again, why are you so desperate to exaggerate? The dude CAN clearly steal bases. In fact, his SB/CS percentage since May 1st is exactly in line with his career rate. Unless you can prove that Ozzie automatically green-lighted him AND that he has had several count/situational missed opportunities, you cannot assume that the lack of offense/situations had SOMETHING to do with his lower totals. From a SB/CS perspective, Juan had an abysmal April. The rest is normal. Sorry you disagree; the numbers don't lie. You are the ultimate cherry picker. And yes, I exaggerated for effect. He can't steal like he used to anymore. Come up with whatever garbage you have to refute that, nobody but the usual loonies are going to believe you. I have to go catch a flight. You all have a good weekend. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) Are we still hung up over that stupid commercial series? Do you drink Miller Lite because it has more taste? Is Coke the real thing for you? Does Google really do no harm? Quit taking your tv so damned seriously people. It was more than a TV gimmick, and to say that it wasn't now is just a cop out. They put in a ton of money for this team and emphasized the fact that they need to do well in April and May in order to be competitive throughout the year and draw fans to pay for the team. This was an organization-wide plan and it blew up in their faces.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Morel has shown a pattern over his pro career. He struggles and then adapts. Its clear he's doing the same this year. Give him some time and we will have a mainstay at 3B for years. His adapting usually happened over one season. The thing is, I think we all understand, that the major leagues are a much bigger jump. So, it doesn't surprise me that the adapting is going to take over a year instead of the normal one-year span.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) He could be Brooks Robinson defensively. His offensive production has to dramatically improve to justify him playing every day. Does he have to be Longoria, Wright or Zimmerman? Of course not. Does he have to be Adrian Beltre? No. But Ty Wiggington/Adam Kennedy-like production will not suffice. I've thought of him as a Joe Randa for a while (and I know others do as well). I still think that, and I'd be satisfied with it.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Was my second choice, Papa Tru. Can't make it easy, have ya seen the price of beer? It can't be too expensive for a professional sports writer in the third largest market in the nation -
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Is it safe to call Lilly--if we take Paulie out of consideration, who's a lock--the 2011 Sox player of the year? I mean this guy just DEFINES hustle, spirit, enthusiasm, ability--you know, everything that's missing from the 2011 Sox. Sorry to see him out for the season but doesn't that just go right along with how 2011 has been. Lilly: my favorite player of 2011 by far. Santos and Buehrle would be ahead of him in my book.

And the guy is at about half of his normal steal attempts for the year. If that doesn't prove that he himself knows that he can't even steal anymore, then I don't know what does. Oh wait, yes I do: the fact that he's 25/39 on the season. Sure, break it down that he had a stretch where he wasn't bad at stealing, but the numbers speak for themselves. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Juan Pierre was more responsible than Matt Thornton and the rest of the bullpen for the 11-22? They blew 3-4 games IN A ROW. So he wasn't more responsible than an entire facet of the team? And that's your argument? Looking at individual players, the only one that I could accept had as much to do with the terrible start was was Thornton. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) It's kind of sad how certain people on this site rush to make fun of Juan Pierre defenders. This is a guy who is the anti-Rios (in terms of heart), but the naysayers just can't wait to jump all over anyone who is a fan of him. For two seasons, he's pretty much done exactly what we expected him to do coming in - hit about .280-.300 with no pop and some wheels. He had one s***ty month on defense and in terms of stolen bases, (it was mediocre offensively) and people just don't let up. It's pretty unreal. If you can't recognize that Pierre had a ton to do with the terrible start, then I don't know how to argue with you. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) I had the same thought when that plane landed in the Hudson. I thought passengers successfully fought off an attack and the pilot was able to land the plane safely. I don't remember thinking that one, but I don't believe I even heard about it until all of the facts were in. I also remember worrying when I heard about the IRS building in Texas at first.

QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 04:20 AM) They probably don't need either. That was my intent. If it's such a rotten move to boo a player, why isn't it considered (by those who claim the booing hurts) as absurd to cheer?

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 04:53 AM) What did he get his money based on then? I don't get the bashing of JP. He's near the bottom when it comes to problems on the Sox this year. He got off to a shaky start but didn't I read he's about 5th in the AL in batting average since mid-June. What more do you want from the guy? He's had some big hits earlier and did a nice jpb as the leadoff man. Next to Konerko, he's probably had the next best year at the plate out of the rest of the Sox. Let me throw out a theory here, and it has nothing to do with Pierre. You (Lemon_44) = greg775 = elrockinMT = sunofgold -
I know this is a tangent, but how surreal was it when the Cory Lidle accident happened? I remember heard that a plane crashed into a New York City building and thinking, "Not this again." Then finding out that it was a small passenger plane, and eventually that it was Lidle at the wheel.

We just have to hope it doesn't become one of those lingering injuries.

I personally have faith in Morel going forward. I think the power will be there in his sophomore year. I've held off on attacking him this year because of that. -
Now please leave.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) CNN says Obama has been briefed about a credible source about the threat of an Al Queda attack around the anniversary of 9/11. Is this something that should of gotten out to the public? Anyone flying Sunday, be prepared for extensive security checks. I'm banking on it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=2462362 about half way through the article. But who knows what is actually fluff and what is real? I'm not saying that this for sure isn't true, but there were strong hints before that AJ would have no part in mentoring Flowers. -
