  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Ozzie Guillen always finds a way to play a guy way too much who, if he weren't on the Sox, would be out of baseball. He does this every year. He develops a man crush on some scrub and plays him every single day.
  2. I didn't know that Ebert said all of that stuff. That's cool.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) And if you're a terrible former Royal that cannot field for s***, we will extend you over your market value. f***, if you've ever been a Royal at any point, you will have a job waiting for you here.
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 11, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) I meant giving up on actually thinking this team's plans are well thought out. I gave up on them when they went 1-5 on the last homestand and made no adjustments. We have the exact opposite of accountability. You play terribly, your job is safe. You play well, well...we might just drop you for a laugh. If you coach a team to mediocrity for years, you get signed to an extension and your option year is picked up so that you don't complain to the press about it.
  5. Alright, that part had me laughing.
  6. So, should we start a poll asking how many games until Peavy gets hurt again?
  7. It should be Peña without question, but it won't be. This guy is the epitome of both boneheaded moves by KW and failure to live up to talent.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) I just want to say that for the White Sox to get to the point that you guys want, it's going to take, at the very minimum, 5 years. Said changes would require a complete organizational shift in philosophy, because what they're doing in the minors, from top to bottom, clearly is not preparing these players well enough for the major leagues. So you have to bring in new coaches, new front office personnel, and new players. It's going to take 3-5 years to get those players prepared for what the White Sox want them to do at the major league level, and then you have to worry about getting the right players in place at the highest level. Perhaps this is something you can incorporate along the way, but I don't believe that. The Yankees and Red Sox have been able to get away from it because they've spent anywhere between 50-100% more than the rest of the league during these transitional periods. That's not to say that the White Sox aren't spending at all - they quite clearly are - but they simply don't have the resources to "purchase" playoff appearances. The teams with similar payrolls to them are teams like the Cubs, Dodgers, Angels, and Mets - no surprise that they are all in the 3 largest markets in the country - and those teams have only been so-so at getting to the playoffs and only the Angels - 10 years ago - have had success in the playoffs, perhaps suggesting that part of their success had to do with the suckage of the A's, Rangers, and Mariners as opposed to them actually being very good. It doesn't surprise me in the least that they struggled last year when a couple other good teams came along and it won't surprise me this year if they finish 3rd in the division. The Sox are also similar to the Twins, Tigers, and Giants who have had varying (used quite loosely) degrees of success over the past 2-5 years. Oh, and this is by far the team's highest payroll ever, by like $20 mill. Every other young and successful team around the league has taken their lumps, and they've usually done so for around 10 years. I don't think it would take the Sox 10 years because they do have the financial capabilities to make it work, but it certainly shouldn't surprise anyone if it does. If they were to sell off and go into a complete rebuild, it's going to be at the expense of the major league team until like 2016 at the very earliest. There are going to be an exorbitant amount of people who are upset about it and attendance will almost certainly drop to the bottom 3rd of the league again. I'm in. And in regards to payroll, it's certainly going to suffer at the hands of their underachievement anyway.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) I hope not. I said the same thing about Detroit in '06 until around Memorial Day, and they ended up winning 94 games. My bad, I edited my post to show my sarcasm more fully.
  10. I would definitely stop rooting for them. I'd follow baseball for a while still and casually watch other games as I do now, but I'd have no immediate team to replace them. I assume that my love of baseball as a whole would probably just fade away over the years, but I might start to take interest in another team over a long period of casual watching. The logical part of me says that it'd make sense to become a Cubs fan since they would have stayed loyal to the city, but I know I'd never be able to do that. I honestly hate them. As much as I love the sport of baseball, I'd more than likely just end up not caring about it anymore after a while.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) The Indians are starting to remind me of the 2006 Tigers. I keep waiting for them to come back to earth and waiting and waiting and they just never do. They aren't this good, but the longer they keep playing over their head, the less they are going to have to win into the future. Not possible, sorry.
  12. I would rather drink a bucket of lukewarm horse piss than a Miller Lite.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) That is because it was genius. Hm, genius? While I appreciate the thought, let's just call it...perfect.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) You're obviously a self-masochist. You still follow the White Sox, even though you know they aren't going to do s***, you still swear by Mr. Perfect even though he's been dead for 8 years now, and worst of all, you get girls with big tits as opposed to nice asses even though you love the way they shake it (or the way it feels, I have no idea). This is very true. I have a lot to think about now.
  15. I love comic book movies, but have never read a single comic book in my life. I used to watch the X-Men, Batman, and Spider-man cartoons, though. I also hate Ryan Reynolds, but I'm not familiar with the personality of the Green Lantern. Does he fit it well?
  16. QUOTE (T R U @ May 10, 2011 -> 12:03 AM) Who cares if they failed? People keep bringing it up because it was still a real lousy start that they came back from.. THAT'S the point, not that they didn't get it done in the end.. Even if this team doesn't get it done in the end, that doesn't change the fact that they can indeed come back from their lousy start.. PS. - Were no longer in last place Yes, anything can happen. A team could come from 60 games back in the last 60 games of the season conceivably. If a team doesn't, that doesn't change the fact that it can happen. Yet it's impossible for the Indians or Royals to end up winning the division?
  17. It's nice to see a legitimate winning streak.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) lol And I just read an article on him but I thought that was part of your signature. I actually thought the joke was about how many basketball players have brought guns to arenas, which was a surprisingly interesting point when I thought about it. Perfect storm for idiotic hilarity on my part. Ha, it works on so many levels.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) You mean players who dont have to go through security? I guess Im not of the belief that a basketball player will turn into a terrorist. No, that's Andrei Kirilenko. His nickname is AK-47 due to his initials and number.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Regardless of the standings, I truly feel the Tigers are the team to beat in the AL Central. Only team with a true ace, and Scherzer's picking up where he left off last year. Yup, been saying that. But then again, I've been saying a lot of things.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Its not really that easy to get ak-47s into a football stadium. 9/11 was a unique terrorist attack that used the resources inherent in a plan as the main explosive force. To get those type of results you need a lot of fuel and that just takes up a lot of space. The biggest threat remains a OKC bombing style where a truck/etc is used with fuel to create the explosion. You could possibly ram it into a stadium etc, to get maximum effect. Other possible options would be train, airplane etc. The blimp would be hard simply because of access. Regular people dont ride in the blimp to take over the cockpit. Im not even sure if they offer blimp pilot training. At the end of the day it takes a lot of resources to pull these things off, terrorism is a bad business model. I don't know about that. It seems to happen in basketball arenas quite often. Football stadiums can't be much different.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ May 9, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) Same here. I was pleasantly surprised with the job Branagh did. Hopefully Captain America can do that story the same justice. Can I ask why you were surprised? I know Branagh's been directing for quite some time. I'm sure Captain America will be good. They've casted well, that's for sure. In the last decade, comic book movies might be the most consistently good type of film. There aren't many that have been bad.
  23. So, Thor was great.
  24. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) For quite some time I have also considered you an ass, man.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) My argument is that "if you put me in the place of an NFL player, I would not want my blood taken, and I'd make sure there were a whole helluva lot of stipulations/requirements to how it was used if I had it taken, and I'd make sure I got something useful back in negotiations in exchange for having my blood taken." I understand that point of view, but you also have to understand that simply by taking that stance, you're going to seem like an obvious steroid user. I agree that they have to make the agreement ironclad so that the use of the blood testing doesn't take a big turn against the players (such as the finding of a disease that may cause a player to be cut or not signed again once he hits free agency).
