International flights
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) Fear of flying. The last time I fell asleep on a flight was in 2006 when I was flying home from Rio on a 13 hour flight. We were over the Venezuelan coast when we hit some moderate turbulence and I felt like I was plummeting to the ocean below with my eyes closed. Woke up and the call attendant lights were being reset and freaked out. Was convinced we were crashing for the next 5 hours until we passed Bermuda. Haven't been able to sleep on a plane since. I don't know why people are so afraid of dying in a plane crash. I mean, it's gotta be one of the quickest/easiest ways to go, plus it's something that will be remembered.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) I am betting Liney ends up in a bad contract for bad contract kind of deal so that we can fill positions of need. Sounds like a real possibility.

Konerko to address free agency before TH game
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) I'm skeptical about how "good" of a return we could get on MB to be honest. I kind of feel he's more valuable to us than what we could expect back. I agree, especially if you want the other team to pick up his salary.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) Huge offseason for KW. 1B-Franchise's 2nd best player in my eyes, PK is a FA. If he leaves, alot of fans will be upset, but if he wants a long term deal or big time money one last time, I am not for the Sox doing that. 2 year deal at the max with an option for a 3rd in the 10 million range. There will also be other FA's or trade candidates the Sox can explore. Also the possibility of going cheap and giving Viciedo the job is a slight possibility. Dunn, LaRoche, DLee, Huff, Pena, Overbay lead the list of 1B FA's. 2B-SHould be Beckham, but the possibility of a trade of Beckham along with someone like Teahen or Linebrink to give financial flexibility can't be ignored. The only way to get rid of one of our bad contracts is to also give up something of value. I don't think it would be Beckham personally, but seeing a similar player go is a decent probability. SS-Alexei has had a fine season. He will be back. Defense much improved and outside is usual slow start, was a solid hitter all season. 3B-Another huge hole for this team. We have in house candidates in Morel,Viciedo,Teahen. We could resign Vizquel, but I'd rather him be back as a super IF sub. FA options include Beltre and that's about it. C-Is Flowers ready? Why isn't he starting down the stretch to see what we have. AJ has been a staple on the Sox, but his production has slipped. He would be nice to have back at a cheap 1 year deal. FA options include VMart, Buck, Olivo. OF-Rios and Pierre will both be back I assume. What about Q? He has looked lost nearly all year. His 2008 self has been gone for a while. Also his D in RF is atrocious. If he is brought back it would seem to be surely as a DH. FA options include Crawford and Werth but after that, the options are very limited. A trade is another possible option. DH-The problem area of 2010. Any of those 1B options could be a possibility along with Thome,Manny,Ortiz,Matsui,Burrell. SP-Our area of strength. One of these guys will almost surely be dealt for financial reasons. Danks,Floyd or Jax seem most likely to go. Buehrle should be back and hopefully Peavy will be back from his injury. We also have Sale as a possible 5th starter. RP- Thornton and Linebrink are the only sure things to be back. Sale too, depending on how the Sox want to use him. Jenks should be gone. Putz could be brought back along with Pena, but inevitably, we will also have another cheap arm or 2 back there for financial reasons. Bench- Teahen looks to be the super sub and I think Vizquel will be back as well. That leaves a backup C and OF to be needed. These could be taken care of by just bringing back Castro and Jones. Financially KW has a tough offseason ahead. 15 guys under contract for about 83million or so. That leaves about 20-25 mil to play with to address C,1B,3B,DH,RP, a 3-4 bench spots. He has never been a let the kids play type of GM so I anticipate alot of deals this offseason. 3 huge offensive positions need to be addressed and will he trust kids to fill them out? It will be an exciting offseason for sure. I certainly don't think Linebrink is a lock to be on the team next year. He only has one year left (I believe) on his contract, so I'm sure someone would be willing to take a chance on him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) It can't even be close honestly. Star Wars is The Beatles of the movies. I kind of figured that, but I wasn't 100% sure. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) It will probably be another surprise. Giraldo was a shame, Curtis was getting up there, the next one will probably be a big surprise to us Giraldo was probably the surprise. The next one will likely be someone who is old and won't surprise anyone when they go, but probably a bigger name than the other two.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 01:10 AM) I agree that Pierre would have to go, but then again I hate his style of play so I would love that. I doubt the Sox actually get Crawford, but my guess is that they will court him heavily this offseason. The Sox courting a big free agent, only to have him sign somewhere else for more money? I don't believe it.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) I am really getting sick of Lucas repeatedly milking this cow. If it's not the most profitable film series of all time, it has to be near the top. I would do the same thing if I were him.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) You mean other than the fact that everything reported so far has him ready for Spring Training? I mean, obviously, with an obscure injury like this, you never really know. But everything said about the nature of the injury and the surgery, and rehab so far, indicates things are as good as can be expected. So yeah, I'll stick with probable. That's exactly what I mean. To say that a pitcher is probable to come back from an injury that never happens to pitchers is, I believe, just pretty hopeful.

2010 Fall TV Thread
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) I didn't think last night's episode was all that great. They didn't really "do" all that much. The only action that happened was from them getting the medication. My favorite line was Tig saying that Gemma could go redhead and her getting pissed at him. Ha! That didn't even occur to me.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) Its all about how much money the Sox are willing to spend on player payroll in 2011. If they are willing to boost it a bit, not even a lot, then I am honestly pretty optimistic about next year. I mean, this team will probably win 87-88 games, after having lost their best SP for most of the year, and having a closer that sucked basically all year - two things that seem unlikely to repeat in 2011. The one obvious hole the team had was the DH debacle, and I highly doubt KW will let that happen again, even if Ozzie begs. And look at those three things for next year. Bobby and his $7M+ likely salary will be gone, with Thornton or Putz to close. Peavy, probably, will be healthy for 2011, and we have up to 7 possible major league starters, which most teams would be jealous of. DH, well, we'll see how that goes, but I predict a near-zero chance we end up with a Kotsay/Jones level disaster again. One other thing - The Twins are having a magical year, playing at an absurd pace for the final 4 months (not 4 weeks - 4 months). The chance of any team repeating that sort of thing year over year is always very low in baseball. So you guys can be sarcastic, but my concern slides on the scale of money available to spend. If payroll has the flexibility to go up a bit, I feel pretty good, pending the offseason moves. If its the same or lower, then it will take some miracle moves from KW to give me the same level of confidence. I don't see any reason to think that that is probable.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) The way we are finishing this season is really getting me excited for next season. The pitching is solid. The hitting is timely. The execution is practically flawless. Bring back Viz. Bring back Manny. Bring back Paulie. Lets add a healthy Jake. A healthy Gordon. And a rejuvanated Oz to lead the bunch. When's spring training start? I can't wait to see our run to the 2011 World Series. I haven't even read the other responses in this thread yet, but I'll just get this out of the way right now. This is typical of the Sox. We're competitive until the last month and a half, we choke, and then we finish out the season strong when we're already out of contention.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Nice to get a win. The great thing about baseball is every game is a new one and there is always next year. What does that even mean? That's true about every sport.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 07:29 AM) I can only watch these Red Sox games because of my college sitiuation. Frankly, i'm not overly enthusiastic about watching meanigless wins ruin our draft position while giving Ozzie something to harp about going into his (god willing) lame-duck year. Where are you going to school?

2010 Fall TV Thread
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 05:38 AM) Lone Star cancelled, which is really sad because was my favorite new show of the season. Wow, didn't that show just start? I don't understand how you make a decision that quickly. It's not like I was going to watch it, but man, why do people even sell their shows to Fox?

Girl gets lip bitten off by dog while playing Nintendogs
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) http://www.hotbloodedgaming.com/2010/09/28...ing-nintendogs/ Someone i know posted this on facebook, and now there is a conversation in which a guy said Now, I dont agree with this at all. I think it was absolutely the right thing to do to euthanize this dog, you cant hope to train a dog not to do something like this. With children around the house, this could happen again and then you would wonder why he wasnt euthanized the first time. thoughts? The very first thing I thought when I finished the article was that I was glad/surprised that the family acted so quickly to euthanize the dog. It was definitely the right thing to do, and being so prompt about it really showed that they cared. I love my family's dog. He's been with the family for 10 years. If he did something like this, he would be lucky if I didn't take him into the backyard and shoot him myself.

Anyone ever move overseas at some point?
QUOTE (Fotop @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 05:25 AM) Can people who moved to Asia comment? I know f all about Europe, so I'll refrain from commenting on that specifically, but I can say I'd recommend moving abroad for work if the opportunity is worth it. Honestly, it was quite difficult to convince me, especially with a girlfriend back in the states (with whom I am still seeing long-distance) but from a life experience and work experience perspective it's certainly worthwhile. Looking back knowing what I know now, I think the decision would have been much easier. It's not all sunshine and rainbows every day, as you will have your bad days and miss the US, miss your family, and miss your good friends. However, the experiences you'll have will be unique, you'll experience new cultures, and will meet new friends. What you're leaving in the US will basically always be there (except Wrigley, the structural integrity of the place may cause it to turn to dust by the time you return). , you can always go back. Europe to me is a bit easier as well, in a sense that you could get home in case of emergency through an 8-10 hr flight. Asia, not so much. Also this gives you the opportunity to go back to visit on a long weekend rather than having to block out a week plus to take a trip home. I will say that it's been easy for me since there's little to no language barrier here - everyone speaks english. So I can't comment on the effect that may have on you - but if you're living in London, well yeah, same boat. Haha. Ultimately, I'm going to assume you're young since you don't have a wife/kids yet (could be wrong, if so, my apologies). If you don't do something like this now, in all likelihood you won't in the future. So, my advice is to take advantage of it if the opportunity were to arise. Granted, there are plenty of factors that are involved in considering if an opportunity is worth it so I would really analyze the offer in hand before making a decision. Opportunity costs are real and not just made up in economics classes. Haha. But I'm rambling at this point, if you have any specific questions, as silly as they may be (e.g. how the hell am I going to watch the white sox abroad?) feel free to shout. Where exactly do you live now?
