  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 02:58 AM) Yes, because before this year the fans were showing up in droves. Our attendance has always been top-notch! GMAB. The A's have been to the playoffs 1 out of the last 5 years, including three consecutive years of at least 10 games below .500. The Twins have as many division titles as we do (and one less World Series title) in the last 5 years. And you don't get to add the Rays to you list because it "looks like" they'll be a regular playoff fixture. I was specifically citing the AL. But yeah, the Cards are definitely there with the Red Sox and Yankees in terms of sustained success. Ha, sorry I used the length of Williams' tenure as a GM to show how 5 other AL teams have been to the playoffs more often and consistently than his teams. Oh, and I can't use the Rays? That's just nitpicking because they are obviously a much better team than the White Sox now and going forward, but I'll accept that. That still leaves 5 teams just in our league.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) And what's your defense? "There's a lot of executives that could do better." Then, of course, you don't cite anybody. The GM is the least of my worries right now. Yeah, the two playoff appearances in 9 years is nothing to get loud about. But other than the Yankees and Red Sox, who have yearly payrolls that go above and beyond every other team, who have been the constants in the AL? Yeah, you've got the Angels. But that division has been bad, bad, bad for most of the last 7 years or so. I'm certainly not saying KW is perfect. But good luck coming up with a legitimate list of 5 GMs that could be had that could do a better job than KW. The A's have been to the playoffs five times since 2000. The Twins, obviously, and it looks like the Rays will be a regular playoff fixture for a while. So, including the three teams you said and those three, you have six teams.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) Yeah, everybody knows Sox fans know better how to run a team than KW. Well, they don't have to know better to "issue an ultimatum." Not going to games would be a way to do that, and it seems that the fans have already issued an ultimatum.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Care to ease off there a bit? I know it's frustrating to watch this team, but, well, yeah, that's a bit over the line. To point out that someone constantly fawns over players from 2005?
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 7, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Maybe we will be out of it this year, but next season is a new battle altogether. I would hope we keep PK for at least another two years We should also sign Crede, Garland, and Hermanson in the offseason. Bring everyone from 2005 back. I know that you would very much like to have all of those players back, despite how bad they are now at the sport of baseball.
  6. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) To be fair, it depends on how many volts are being used and how long they keep it on you. Depending on both of those things it's very comparable to OC Spray. I think what needs to happen is good old fashioned policing. RUN and catch the criminal, if he's resisting then you use whatever force is necessary. The kid that got tagged in Philly was outrunning an out of shape police, making him look like a clown. I think it was done more for the cops ego than actually having to use that kind of force. How do you prevent this in the future? Fire the police that are too out of shape to do their jobs. You definitely sound like someone who's been hit with a taser before.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) It doesn't matter if she told him she was 19 or if she looked like she was 40 or had a fake ID saying she was 23, if she is 16 and LT had sex with her, he's guilty. Now all the other stuff may help him with his punishment, but this is a guy with a bad history. I think he'll do some time. Plus, I'm pretty damn sure that prostitution itself is illegal in New York. He committed a crime either way, so f*** him.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) My whole point was that if Walker was going to get lambasted every time 3 or 4 guys are hitting under .200, then Cooper should also get grief because over 3/4s of the starting staff has an ERA above 5.00. 3/4 of 5 starters? Also, it just occurred to me, but is the title of this thread a reference to the show Hangin' With Mr. Cooper?
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Which wouldn't make any since with Juan Pierre on the team. And I for one still think it's risky to have Andruw in the OF everyday. Which would be required when talking about DH only players like Vlad, Matsui and Thome. Well, Juan Pierre can hit the road in this hypothetical situation. And I'm sure Vlad and Matsui could play a game or two a week in the OF, allowing Jones to DH once in a while and stay a little more fresh.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) Andruw Jones has made Matsui, Thome and Vlad irrelevant. Call it luck or KW really believing in AJ. But the signing has been a total coup to this point. I don't know about that. We could still use one of them as a DH with Jones in the OF.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 6, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) yeah, Johnson has a lot to admire at the plate, but he doesn't exactly stay healthy, I don't want to see the Sox target him as an everyday player The Sox do seem to have some skill at keeping guys healthy, though.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 6, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) There are so little facts out about this case, how could you possibly say that? You know some professional athletes are grade-A assholes and actually have abused and raped women? Are there money grabs? I'm sure there are, but there are also many sexual assaults that occur and charges aren't pressed because these crimes can be difficult to prove in a criminal court. Exactly. And if it's true that she's 15, well that just takes it down another level. It's ridiculous to automatically assume it's a "money grab" right off of the bat.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) Is that really true? Boston fans are fairly intelligent as far as baseball fans go...they have to realize how terrible he's been...they really would be upset if the team let Ortiz walk? Yeah...caulfield isn't right.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) For me, nothing beats the Sox in the playoffs. But since I'm a hardcore MMA fan, there a lot of fights that I consider big fights, and big fights interest me more than any regular season game in any other sport. So I put MMA ahead of everything else for that reason. Because they're so damn rare.
  15. I've always felt (and I have no idea how the statistics back this up over the life of his contract) that Konerko seemed to give the team average to a little below average in terms of power for a 1B. At the time he signed the contract, it seemed like we overpaid a bit and probably had a year too many on it, but we sort of had to given that we had just won a WS and we didn't really have another option. Now that the contract is expiring, it looks like it has been very fair or maybe just slightly too much money. EDIT: Oh, but I cannot stand the lack of hustle Konerko shows when he's in a funk. The shrug and slow (even for him) trot to first base. If he's really a team leader, he'd run out those outs hard.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) But it could feasibly be more, right? There isn't a limit? According to everything I've ever known about the game of baseball, there would be no limit. It's one of the reasons why a baseball game is never really over until the final out is recorded. You could be down 100-0 with two outs and a full count in the bottom of the 9th of a perfect game, and there is still an actual chance of winning. In football, hockey, and basketball, that's not the case. Due to a game clock, at some point it becomes humanly impossible to score enough points/goals in a given amount of time.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Rios celebrating the birth of a child in style. I think the most stylish way to celebrate the birth of a child is to make another one.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) He does if he's hitting .280, let alone .300. I mean it's really that simple. JP is a career .301 hitter in 6064 career plate appearances coming into this year. He's hitting .202 this year. Has he declined so much over one 6-month off-season that his average has dropped 100 points off his career mark? I'd say hell no. I was joking about how terrible he's been.
  19. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) I think he was just throwing out a made up name and saying he'll go 4 for 5. And he was right. And I think Leonard was being extremely sarcastic.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) Like it or not, JP has no value on THIS team if he's not leading off. There's just no better option. Blame Ozzie/KW for the construction of the roster until you're blue in the face. It's just fact. He also has no value on this team if he's leading off.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ May 2, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) I could see Flowers and Lucy together as a catching pair in Chicago next year. Going entirely off of their names, that has to be the sissiest catching duo ever.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 2, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) We lost with A-ram leading off, won with Vizquel leading off, and Rios isn't even with the club right now. Can we take 3-4 steps away from the ledge or are we all jumping off at this point? I see nobody jumping off the ledge in this thread. And having won a single game with Vizquel leading off hardly justifies having the man in a starting role, let alone at the top of the order.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 2, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) needed its own thread for sure It sort of does. Taking Pierre out of the lead off spot, only to replace him with Omar Vizquel and Mark Kotsay. It honestly seems like Ozzie is trying to get fired.
