QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) Well to be fair, there have been a lot of stupid people that have been very good at sports.. Definitely, but we've been seeing the same thing from Ramirez since he came here. EDIT: You can tell that his lack of focus even wears on Hawk, which is saying something.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) 4 games is a VERY small sample size for what the season offers If this is the same crap after this first month, ill step out onto the ledge too ill edit in the starting pitching has been great so far and the games close, at least were not gettin trounced like the Astros.. if you wanna see a really bad team with nothing, watch one of their games.. It's frustrating because the offense has seemed to pick up right where it left off last season. In fact, it feels like it's been the same offense since the downturn in 2006. -
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) You can hate on Ramirez mental lapses all you want but you have to face it the guy looks amazing there sometimes, thats more than likely the reason they elected to keep him there over Beckham He'd probably be great (at least very good) if it weren't for the mental lapses. The problem, though, is that he seems to be a real idiot. I don't mean that in the generic sense. I really think he's a very stupid person and that he can't be taught to focus more.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) too much over reaction.. Ramirez more than likely cost us this game with his mental mistakes.. maybe we still dont win if he doesnt have those 2 errors, but ide like to think otherwise.. Can't we try to switch Beckham and Ramirez?

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:33 PM) Apart from the pitching staff, this team is bad. Very bad. That's what's so frustrating - it's a terrible waste of an exceptional pitching staff. And it's specifically what the manager wanted. I agree with you completely, and the bold part should be emphasized. -
QUOTE (SockMe @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) The offense is TOO BAD to blame Ozzie. HE HAD A PART IN CREATING THAT OFFENSE.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) He pitched well. But the lead-off walk to Mauer was a killer. I just can't stand lead-off walks. To be fair, it's Joe Mauer. Plus he had to deal with the ump calling balls on two possible strikes that would've ended the inning, and then Alexei being a terrible fielder.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) Sports fans are some of the dumbest creatures on earth. I don't blame Ozzie at all for that. I'm sure there are quite a few idiots out there, but it's no reason for him to be saying those things. And I hope you mean "dumb" in the sense of baseball, as I'm sure Ozzie knows more than most in that regard. I'd wager that quite a lot of people are more intelligent than him, though.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) Ozzie should be fired for telling his company's customers to take their business to the competition. Also, I thought I heard him say something on CTL before the game about "idiots" that think they know baseball and something like "that's why they have to get up at 4:00 in the morning and I have this bleepin' job." Very condescending to the fans. Couple this with his poor eye for talent, his poor in-game managing and his inability to make out a decent lineup and I think he has finally worn out his welcome. I liked Ozzie but his time has come. He wanted this mess of a roster so now he has to take the blame for wasting this great pitching staff. Yes, it's early, but if he's going to insult the fans who are upset at his team's poor performance it's already time for him to go. Maybe some fans are overreacting, but you don't insult your fans. It's ridiculous that he would say that.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) shouldnt we give them ATLEAST a week? we want to run everyone out of town and say how bad they are after 4 games. i know some of these guys arent great but they will most likely atleast be decent. we're 1-3 and it sucks but we should be ok. atleast we havent been blown out You know what you're going to get from a lot of these guys. And even then, it's a problem.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) The bullpen, a supposed strength, has been pretty bad the last three nights as well. I don't think they were too bad tonight. I mean, it was Linebrink. We all know he's the trash reliever and the last guy to go to. Peña was forced to throw for too long.

Why is it always just the offense or just Ozzie? It's a little bit of both.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) I just gave you them. Numbers = facts. You telling me that Jones = Kotsay means you haven't looked into this at all. Don't bother arguing with him. -

What do you expect with a lot of these players? There are some deficiencies with the pitching (Linebrink and Garcia are examples), but that's something the rest of the staff can overcome. We can't overcome the lack of a DH. We have two "quick" and savvy veterans that aren't going to help at all in Pierre and Vizquel. Teahen will hit an occasional homer, but that's it. Our shortstop doesn't hit in the months of April and May, plus he might be certifiably retarded. And I really don't think Konerko is any good. He's a mediocre 1B when it comes to offensive numbers, and we need more than that with this lineup. -
Apparently, you know.

The #2 and #5 spots in the lineup...

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) A runner on 2B with two outs to work with, and all you need is a single. It's a chance worth taking. Maybe they walk Quentin, but Konerko is unbelievably hot at the moment. They've been doing this since the 1860s. It's tried and true, yo. .222 batting average after that last at-bat. -
Until Jones proves that he's a better CFer than Rios (which I doubt is still the case), Rios should remain in CF.

QUOTE (Ranger @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) Because it's fairly large risk in the 9th inning of a tie game. Yes, he's gonna steal bases, but he's not going to do it at a 100% rate. Runner at 2nd with Quentin and Konerko coming up provides a pretty damn good chance to drive in that run. This isn't to say that he won't ever attempt a steal in a similar situation, but it's not going to happen every time. In fact, he's probably going to do it at a 75% success rate, which makes him virtually useless in that regard. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Joe West I F***ing love you now. Ooh, the responses from the players (and all but Schilling's last paragraph) really ticked me off. You really can feel the sense of entitlement in their remarks.

Do you like Mark Kotsay when he's not starting?
Milkman delivers replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 06:33 AM) Its 2 games. Obviously Ozzie is about the only human being alive that thinks Mark Kotsay is perfect as a DH hitting fifth, but it is only 2 games. He's 0-5. There isn't anyone who has played MLB that hasn't been 0-5 at some point. If KW really despised this idea as much as he wants you to believe, he's not going to stand around and do nothing for a couple of months if they aren't getting production. I'm not that worried about it yet, although I have always wondered what Mark Kotsay brings offensively that is better than what Jim Thome brings. Not true: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gaedeed01.shtml -
I used to love Quisp. Anyone even remember that?

QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) Its the time of the season for throwing crap at a wall and seeing what sticks. I'd like to see Jones in the DH spot tomorrow but on the other hand, the more chances Kotsay has to fail means he will be out of the DH role faster. Like with Wise last year. UNTRUE. Ozzie has a really hard time taking people out of their roles when he establishes them there. And I'm pretty sure Wise only came out of the starting lineup because he got hurt. -
