QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) X2>X1, Spiderman 2 > Spiderman 1. IMO, in some of these superhero movies, the sequel is actually set up to be better, because you don't need to spend 45 minutes introducing the character, you can assume the character exists and start off with a plot line. One of the complaints about Iron man2(have not yet seen it) seems to be a lot of dithering at the beginning. Ah, another one that is the best of the series by far. Alfred Molina was perfectly cast for Dr. Octopus. I love it when they find an actor who was seemingly born to play a certain role. It has been happening quite a lot in the superhero genre recently.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 13, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) I think Godfather part II, Empire Strikes Back, and the LOTR Two Towers were all better than the first installments — all of which were outstanding in their own right. Damn, you beat me to those two. And in those two cases, they are not only better than the first, but the best of the entire series.

Playboy in 3D
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 13, 2010 -> 06:29 AM) "Hey! We're still relevant! Come on! Pay attention!" The combination of internet porn and actually having been laid has made it so that I could read any Playboy ever made and not even get...how do I say this politely...a chubby.

Would it be better for the organization to get swept by the twins?
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 11, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) Because if one of you did, you wouldn't be able to keep the secret...you'd be blabbing all night long about exactly what was going to happen... Screw that. I'd place thousands of bets and never speak a word of it to anyone until I made my money.

Would it be better for the organization to get swept by the twins?
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Now this I agree 100 percent with, and it's also very scary to think about. If the Sox are going to go into rebuilding mode, more resources have to be put into minor league development, and we'll probably have to trade some people we really don't want to just to get some young talent back. And even then, it'll take us minimum a few years to get good again. I can deal with that. And I think it's going to have to happen eventually, so the sooner the better.

Would it be better for the organization to get swept by the twins?
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) First of all, I have not stated how many games I think they will win. Second of all, we have ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY GAMES LEFT. I'm sorry, but you just do not have neither the crystal ball nor the immense evaluation skills to know whether or not 8 games can be made up with 132 left. That is literally one game every two weeks. We honestly don't know a whole lot more right now than we did at the beginning of the season. Finally, you have no idea what kinds of injuries or trades/transactions might occur between now and the end of the season. You just have no idea what could happen over the course of five months! Well, if you had the aforementioned crystal ball, you'd know that. And how are you so sure that one of us doesn't own one.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Just wanted to say good work@shack. These perpetual whiners really need to go out and find more constructive things to do with their time. I wouldn't even bother with a professional sports team in any way shape, or form, if they reduced me to a miserable, whiney, "SEASON'S OVER" every 2.5 seconds joke of a "fan." This is acceptable?

7.5 games back.
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Trade Jenks and Teahan and Kotsay and maybe AJP and see what you mght be able to add. Trade away your strong nucleus and all you do is add inexperience to go with inexperience. You understand that you have to give value to receive it, correct? This isn't MLB 2K10 with the difficulty set on easy.

KW issues ultimatum
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) If you choose to go all the way back to 2001 to make a point, then go ahead. I think 5 years is a good cutoff to evaluate what a GM has done of late. 2005: 'nuff said. 2006: On paper, team was better than 2005. 57-31 at the all-star break. I'm certainly not blaming Kenny for the second half collapse. 2007: Kenny gets some blame here. Didn't really upgrade the team from the previous year. And that bullpen experiment failed miserably. 2008: KW deserves more credit here than for 2005. Brought in the almost ROY and MVP. Two bold trades that brought in Danks/Floyd the previous year paid major dividends. 2009: 50/50 here. The roster that ended the season was much better than the roster that began the season. The division was there for the taking. And the team didn't get it done. 2010: TBD. I'm just fine with KW as our GM. I'm comparing his career as a GM to the rest of the league. I don't think that's a stretch at all. And in reference to the bold part, so am I. It just wouldn't upset or surprise me to see him axed. I believe Ozzie is more worthy of being fired, but neither should be feeling too comfortable right now.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) The verb, not the noun. Are you saying I shouldn't be hiking around in the woods with a miniskirt anymore? You can't take that away from me! The skirt's OK. It's the go-go boots I'm worried about.

Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) The north woods are a bad place for that, you will get ticks if you spend time in the backcountry, period. Just need to do a check when you come back. Luckily, Lyme Disease is still rare in that part of the country, but you can still get it (from Deer Ticks, which are the smaller ones that you can barely see). Here are some tips from an outdoorsman: --Blouse your pants into your boots/shoes/socks --Wear thick socks --Use a heavy-deet insect repellant like Muskol (the stuff that says don't use on furniture or painted surfaces), not the weak "Off" stuff, and use it particularly on your legs and arms. --Try to avoid brushing up against plants and shrubs when you can --Try not to sit on the ground much If you actually get a tick, use a real tick remover if you can find one - if you pull out out with tweezers or by hand, try to get as much of it out as you can. If you leave part of it in there, you can still get disease from it. I dunno, I find it hard to believe an outdoorsman would use the word "Blouse"

KW issues ultimatum
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 02:58 AM) Yes, because before this year the fans were showing up in droves. Our attendance has always been top-notch! GMAB. The A's have been to the playoffs 1 out of the last 5 years, including three consecutive years of at least 10 games below .500. The Twins have as many division titles as we do (and one less World Series title) in the last 5 years. And you don't get to add the Rays to you list because it "looks like" they'll be a regular playoff fixture. I was specifically citing the AL. But yeah, the Cards are definitely there with the Red Sox and Yankees in terms of sustained success. Ha, sorry I used the length of Williams' tenure as a GM to show how 5 other AL teams have been to the playoffs more often and consistently than his teams. Oh, and I can't use the Rays? That's just nitpicking because they are obviously a much better team than the White Sox now and going forward, but I'll accept that. That still leaves 5 teams just in our league.

KW issues ultimatum
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) And what's your defense? "There's a lot of executives that could do better." Then, of course, you don't cite anybody. The GM is the least of my worries right now. Yeah, the two playoff appearances in 9 years is nothing to get loud about. But other than the Yankees and Red Sox, who have yearly payrolls that go above and beyond every other team, who have been the constants in the AL? Yeah, you've got the Angels. But that division has been bad, bad, bad for most of the last 7 years or so. I'm certainly not saying KW is perfect. But good luck coming up with a legitimate list of 5 GMs that could be had that could do a better job than KW. The A's have been to the playoffs five times since 2000. The Twins, obviously, and it looks like the Rays will be a regular playoff fixture for a while. So, including the three teams you said and those three, you have six teams.

KW issues ultimatum
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) Yeah, everybody knows Sox fans know better how to run a team than KW. Well, they don't have to know better to "issue an ultimatum." Not going to games would be a way to do that, and it seems that the fans have already issued an ultimatum.

Paul Konerko AL player of week
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Care to ease off there a bit? I know it's frustrating to watch this team, but, well, yeah, that's a bit over the line. To point out that someone constantly fawns over players from 2005?

Paul Konerko AL player of week
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 7, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Maybe we will be out of it this year, but next season is a new battle altogether. I would hope we keep PK for at least another two years We should also sign Crede, Garland, and Hermanson in the offseason. Bring everyone from 2005 back. I know that you would very much like to have all of those players back, despite how bad they are now at the sport of baseball.

Fans Entering Field During Game
QUOTE (chwhtsox @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) To be fair, it depends on how many volts are being used and how long they keep it on you. Depending on both of those things it's very comparable to OC Spray. I think what needs to happen is good old fashioned policing. RUN and catch the criminal, if he's resisting then you use whatever force is necessary. The kid that got tagged in Philly was outrunning an out of shape police, making him look like a clown. I think it was done more for the cops ego than actually having to use that kind of force. How do you prevent this in the future? Fire the police that are too out of shape to do their jobs. You definitely sound like someone who's been hit with a taser before.

Former NFL Star Lawrence Taylor Arrested
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) It doesn't matter if she told him she was 19 or if she looked like she was 40 or had a fake ID saying she was 23, if she is 16 and LT had sex with her, he's guilty. Now all the other stuff may help him with his punishment, but this is a guy with a bad history. I think he'll do some time. Plus, I'm pretty damn sure that prostitution itself is illegal in New York. He committed a crime either way, so f*** him.

Cooooooper Don Coooooooper Luv that Don Cooper!
QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) My whole point was that if Walker was going to get lambasted every time 3 or 4 guys are hitting under .200, then Cooper should also get grief because over 3/4s of the starting staff has an ERA above 5.00. 3/4 of 5 starters? Also, it just occurred to me, but is the title of this thread a reference to the show Hangin' With Mr. Cooper?
