  1. J4L, do you expect people who already have allegiances to other teams to just jump ship? I mean, they're a very new team and have done seemingly little to ever garner a fan base. The few people I could see rooting for a team like that are Tampa area residents that were born in the last 15 years or so. Also, what's up with Howell?
  2. I think they say that Jenks lost weight before each season. I swear he's getting fatter, though.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) It'll be Kotsay or Vizquel is my guess. I assume you're kidding. If Ozzie did that, Williams should fire him before the first pitch is thrown.
  4. Fantastic. Did they mention who's leading off?
  5. Jenks does suck now. It's time to face that fact. It's not location, it's not his inability to get the curve over, and it's not the fact that he's dropping velocity to have better command. He's a fat, washed-up closer.
  6. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) I'm not trying to look backward, just to point out that a bad start to the season doesn't mean he's a bust. I meant no offense by it. It just gets old when people refer to the one season in basically a century where things went right in order to ignore a real problem occurring in the present.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) We'll see real proof of the lack of interest next week when they come back to a near empty stadium. And deservedly so. I think any remaining luster from 2005 is completely gone. People are sick and tired of the consistent inadequacy of this team.
  8. There have been about 15 posts in PHT since I signed off last night. People seem to really be ignoring this team right now. I can't blame them. A lot of people seem to be losing faith in the Sox.
  9. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) FWIW I was at the game sitting in their version of the Scout Seats. In that awful first it was control, control, control... he was all over the place. When he did throw a strike they'd tag him. And by the second inning I believe he was already at 60 pitches. However, from that point on he was cruising most of the way; he settled down. He got some nasty strikeouts and shattered a few bats with inside pitches. I'm not pulling the plug on him just yet. We've been through this feast-or-famine thing with Contreras, who, just when you think he's over the hill, surprises everybody. And I think Peavy's way more mentally tough than him. Speaking of which, first half of 2005 Contreras was awful; for the next half he was the best pitcher in baseball. Great, another arbitrary comparison to 2005.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) According to a Survey, the Cleveland Indians are the most commonly disliked franchise in baseball, beating out the Red Sox (#2). The White Sox are the 7th most disliked. I'm not sure why Cleveland would be that high. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why we're so damn high.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) I just really never got into the cheap American Beers whilst I was over there. Was always a 6 pack of Corona's or Heineken's when I made a run to the Spirits / Bottle Shop. Wow, what a lightweight.
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) Not a big deal. Made a joke that was oddly specific enough to not be replicated a half an hour later on a seperate board. Figured worth bringing it up in this thread. No, I saw your joke. I don't know what you're talking about with Dye, though.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) One of the WSI'ers stole one of my jokes tonight. It was a play on the "why dye no have job?" twitter thing, that one of them plucked out of today's gamethread and posted in one of their post-game threads. It was a bit too much to be a coincidence. I'm honored. Soxtalk always does have the best material. What are you talking about?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) At this point, it can't hurt. Been saying that, too.
  15. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Yes, but Kenny did not aquire the best players. Of course Ozzie is going to say that. Do you think any manager tells the truth? He's probably thinking this is a horse s*** team. Did Pierre, Tehan, Jones and Visquel really get you excited in the off season? They are all over the hill and one of them is from an organization where they do nothing but lose. I get this feeling if Damon was on the team, he would probably be batting .210 or age would catch up. It's time to start improving the minors. Sox don't like paying big money and experienced vets from other organizations just don't seem to pan out. I don't think there is a manager that can fix this. I do think it is time to fire Greg Walker. I doubt it will make much difference, but the feast and famine pattern has been going on too long. I don't know if it's his fault but a change is necessary for change's sake. Man, I've been saying that for years.
  16. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) what was the context of this? where was it said, do you have a link? i see everyone is already knee-jerk reacting to your post, without knowing the context of the comment Yes, all three of everyone.
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) Seriously, so many knee-jerkers on this site. Patience is a virtue. The team sucks now, it's hard to watch as a fan. But can we seriously end the "FIRE OZZIE" among other ridiculous comments until the team is 10+ games out in June/July? Almost half the roster are guys who were either acquired mid-season last year, have never played for the Sox prior to this year, or were acquired at the beginning of 2009. This is, for the most part, a team of guys who haven't really clicked 'as a team' yet. I think it'll happen sooner rather than later. And no, I don't think Kenny will blow this up, or fire anybody prior to the Sox going above .500 in 2010. It's hard for people like me who still largely believes in this team, to read some of the s*** on this site. I don't believe in putting people on ignore unless they are truly annoying, but sometimes I just shake my head in doubt I'm not saying we'll win the division, but I'm not making my prediction based on what I'm seeing in the month of April. Is there anyone else on this site that agrees with me? Sometimes I feel like I'm surrounded by a pack of rabid monkeys That's the problem with the people who want to hold out a little longer for Ozzie. When June/July comes, it'll be "can't we wait until the team is technically out of it." Then it's "wait til the season's over" and eventually "one more year" before we can consider ditching him.
  18. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) HAHAHA. Now that's funny. Seriously though, when was the last time we had a good bench? I literally can't think of a single time where I said, "damn, we have a competent bench." Maybe back in the early days of my fandom, like '03.. but I can't remember. I remember thinking that our bench seemed pretty deep before the start of the 2006 season. It didn't really turn out that way.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) That is HILARIOUS. I know Ozzie's not really a stats guy, but KW should really kick him in the penis for putting a lineup like that out there.
  20. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Randy Williams gives up the GW run (as it turns out) and Pierre grounds out weakly to the SS with Jones on deck.. Ozzie takes the bump for this one. How many is that this season now? Is he hanging out with Ron Washington after the game or something?
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) Just talking about how as long as he's there, no one will be the man, etc. He keeps making this season and organization about him, and he's going to get fired. I think he was just saying that it's a team effort, between all of the players and coaches.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Just saw this...I hate Ozzie Guillen http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1740275.story What's so bad about it?
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) I think Threets has been injured. Just let Santos pitch when Williams has been pitching. No one is touching him. Who cares about R/L Ozzie. And unfortunately, he's the only one whose opinion matters.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) So he's a computer? I thought Ozzie hated computers. He's like Marcus Wright from Terminator Salvation.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) I was thinking Aziz Ansari. I was thinking of the episode where Peter remembers how a bully named Randy always pantsed him.
