  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 2, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) If we ever have to move Teahan to LF down the line, I wonder if we can get by like that. Sure, that's a weak bat to have in LF, but depending on the roster it might be passable. Between him and Rios, respectively at LF and CF, we could be getting some 37 HR yearly combined from those two positions. Maybe. I suppose his versatility is a reason for the contract. And our extreme need for LH bats This team wouldn't know anything about weak bats in LF.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ May 1, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) I'll take Pie-O-My Great reference.
  3. What are the chances that this thread jinxes today's game?
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) Paul Konerko has driven in 23% of our team's runs this season. That is the 2nd highest percentage in the game. Behind?
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Allegiances to other teams? Like who? The Marlins? That's right. They can't draw fans either. Despite the fact they've won two world series in their history. What exactly is the criteria for the great people of Florida to get up off their asses and support the local baseball teams? Outside of football, Florida is just a horrible sports state. And Howell has been on the DL all year due to shoulder problems. He should be back next month. As you said, it's not a good baseball state. I would think anyone who was picking out of those two teams would have gone with the Marlins anyway, due to their earlier success. And a good portion of people are probably transplanted fans of other teams. I just don't see them getting too popular.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) Is it to the point where you are loosing your mind? (yes, done intentionally) Eh, would've been funnier had you not pointed that out.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) No joke. Any list that doesn't start with the Red Sox is garbage.
  8. The misspelling of the word "dominant" is quickly becoming one of my biggest pet peeves.
  9. J4L, do you expect people who already have allegiances to other teams to just jump ship? I mean, they're a very new team and have done seemingly little to ever garner a fan base. The few people I could see rooting for a team like that are Tampa area residents that were born in the last 15 years or so. Also, what's up with Howell?
  10. I think they say that Jenks lost weight before each season. I swear he's getting fatter, though.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) It'll be Kotsay or Vizquel is my guess. I assume you're kidding. If Ozzie did that, Williams should fire him before the first pitch is thrown.
  12. Fantastic. Did they mention who's leading off?
  13. Jenks does suck now. It's time to face that fact. It's not location, it's not his inability to get the curve over, and it's not the fact that he's dropping velocity to have better command. He's a fat, washed-up closer.
  14. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) I'm not trying to look backward, just to point out that a bad start to the season doesn't mean he's a bust. I meant no offense by it. It just gets old when people refer to the one season in basically a century where things went right in order to ignore a real problem occurring in the present.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) We'll see real proof of the lack of interest next week when they come back to a near empty stadium. And deservedly so. I think any remaining luster from 2005 is completely gone. People are sick and tired of the consistent inadequacy of this team.
  16. There have been about 15 posts in PHT since I signed off last night. People seem to really be ignoring this team right now. I can't blame them. A lot of people seem to be losing faith in the Sox.
  17. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) FWIW I was at the game sitting in their version of the Scout Seats. In that awful first it was control, control, control... he was all over the place. When he did throw a strike they'd tag him. And by the second inning I believe he was already at 60 pitches. However, from that point on he was cruising most of the way; he settled down. He got some nasty strikeouts and shattered a few bats with inside pitches. I'm not pulling the plug on him just yet. We've been through this feast-or-famine thing with Contreras, who, just when you think he's over the hill, surprises everybody. And I think Peavy's way more mentally tough than him. Speaking of which, first half of 2005 Contreras was awful; for the next half he was the best pitcher in baseball. Great, another arbitrary comparison to 2005.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) According to a Survey, the Cleveland Indians are the most commonly disliked franchise in baseball, beating out the Red Sox (#2). The White Sox are the 7th most disliked. I'm not sure why Cleveland would be that high. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why we're so damn high.
  19. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) I just really never got into the cheap American Beers whilst I was over there. Was always a 6 pack of Corona's or Heineken's when I made a run to the Spirits / Bottle Shop. Wow, what a lightweight.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) Not a big deal. Made a joke that was oddly specific enough to not be replicated a half an hour later on a seperate board. Figured worth bringing it up in this thread. No, I saw your joke. I don't know what you're talking about with Dye, though.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) One of the WSI'ers stole one of my jokes tonight. It was a play on the "why dye no have job?" twitter thing, that one of them plucked out of today's gamethread and posted in one of their post-game threads. It was a bit too much to be a coincidence. I'm honored. Soxtalk always does have the best material. What are you talking about?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) At this point, it can't hurt. Been saying that, too.
  23. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Yes, but Kenny did not aquire the best players. Of course Ozzie is going to say that. Do you think any manager tells the truth? He's probably thinking this is a horse s*** team. Did Pierre, Tehan, Jones and Visquel really get you excited in the off season? They are all over the hill and one of them is from an organization where they do nothing but lose. I get this feeling if Damon was on the team, he would probably be batting .210 or age would catch up. It's time to start improving the minors. Sox don't like paying big money and experienced vets from other organizations just don't seem to pan out. I don't think there is a manager that can fix this. I do think it is time to fire Greg Walker. I doubt it will make much difference, but the feast and famine pattern has been going on too long. I don't know if it's his fault but a change is necessary for change's sake. Man, I've been saying that for years.
  24. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) what was the context of this? where was it said, do you have a link? i see everyone is already knee-jerk reacting to your post, without knowing the context of the comment Yes, all three of everyone.
