ARod suspended for entire 2014 season
Milkman delivers replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
I'm sure that basically every clean player in that era WANTED to bring it to light. Not sure of the exact pressures on them to not do so, but it had to be an overwhelming and just disheartening feeling. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) Andro hardly did anything and was legal at the time. I would guess that McGwire was using actual steroids and had the Andro around as a distraction as if to say "I got huge like this legally" I'm pretty sure I made that same argument years ago -
A proposal regarding team with the worst record

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) No they weren't. Don't forget that Houston is in the AL now too. Haha, holy s***! I actually forgot about that. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) If you let the player choose if there is a tie, and at $20 million, every stud player will have a tie, nothing is going to change except the fee will be lower. If you go by reverse order, if a guy is coming out, the race could be on to be the worst in baseball in August and September. That could get ugly. I think they should break out the ping pong balls and have a lottery with all the teams tied participating. +1

QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) It was fine. Not must see TV, but solid. I wish it were 6 one hour episodes instead of 3 two hour ones, though. Wait, it's a miniseries?

QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) I agree he didn't write anything close to that. In fact that is my point. That if it was phrased better, and by someone who has not posted ugly racist posts prior, it would not have been so soundly denounced. And I wasn't trying to make any excuses either. What I was trying to point out is the kernel of truth in Duke's ugly racist posts. Mandela was not a saint from birth. I believe Mandela became one. It highlights the remarkable ability and potential for all of us to change. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change."

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) It just shows a complete and utter ignorance of history. Something like 50% of Native Americans were wiped out right before the Europeans got here by their version of the plague. Had that plague not happened, we wouldn't be here right now. It has nothing to do with them not "fighting hard enough". Sweet jesus. I can't imagine even doubling their numbers would've changed anything. If the Europeans wanted it, they were getting it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) WTF? What civilization on Earth are we talking about that "has no understanding of war"? I was thinking the same exact thing.

A proposal regarding team with the worst record

Makes sense. The Sox WERE the Cubs of the AL last season. -
I suppose that would've been the simplest answer haha.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Well, the 1994 election was held with the specific intention of completely scrapping apartheid. They were working with a temporary constitution from that election until a new one was ratified a couple years later. It wasn't really equivalent to the Civil Rights Act or even the Reconstruction Amendments, but if we had instead scrapped the entire constitution and started over. Essentially everything about the political entity "South Africa" changed starting in 1994. I understand, but I'm just kind of a stickler for being exact.

One thing I keep noticing, and it's hardly a big deal, but people keep calling SA 20 years old. It became its own republic in 1961. Yes, it's gone through changes in leadership and equality, but it's still the same country. It'd be like saying America is only 49 years old because of the civil rights act of 1964. Or considering it a new country with each new President or Congressional majority.

Random question, but does Wedge still post here? I was watching the original Star Wars trilogy the other day and the question crossed my mind.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Be careful with 1491. It is a good read and points out a lot of important historical data points that most of society doesn't know. But other anthropologists have pointed out that he stretched some conclusions too far. That 95% number is really only true of some specific tribal groups, not all AmerInds as a whole. I didn't believe the original post due entirely to that number being so staggering.

I'm actually fairly disappointed that next season will be the last one for Boardwalk, and that it will be shorter. I wanted to watch a lot of these guys reach their peaks and/or meet their reality-based demises and how the creators would show them play out. Unless they do a lengthy montage, which I don't think could do it justice anyway, they won't get that done.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 01:41 AM) I wasn't at all referring to you, but my favorite boxing partner Dookie Sorry, since my post was in the quote, I figured it was directed at me. Last thing I wanna do is get into a political argument. I just wanted to make a joke

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:57 PM) By who's standards? And who cares? Why do you expect South Africa to be a paradise 20 years after apartheid??? After the Revolution, remind me how many years it took the US to abolish slavery? Think for ONE SECOND people. I know that's tougher for some of you. First of all, blow it out your ass. Secondly, I'm only making a joke about how crappy Africa is as a whole.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) Today's South Africa is quite far from perfect, but stands out in Africa as a well-run place. That...That's not saying much.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) I'm ashamed to say I didn't follow his political career too closely. What terrorist acts did he commit? Exactly, this is all news to me. And if it's true, it just goes to show how easy it is to be ignorant of global politics.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) GoT is around as long as there is book material. They are catching up to the books quicker than they are being written They can far outlive the books as long as they keep putting people to the sword.
