Julio Franco....
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) That's what Fred McGriff figured. Sneak into 500 that way. Didn't work. No one wanted him. In his last three years of baseball, McGriff was 38, 39, and 40 years old. In those seasons, he hit .273, .249, and .181, respectively. Franco is now 47 and is hitting .298. In the three previous years, he hit .284, .294, and .309. It's completely different.

Strangely enough, I don't know if I've even ever made a Timo/Ozzie love joke, at least in a while. I'd think that I'd be the first person to do that, ha.

Batboy Suspended
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Why was he sore..? From getting sick? I love milk, don't drink it by the gallon, but it's never made me sick. Must be a guy thing.. I don't know why at all. He said his muscles hurt and it was almost like his bones hurt. He's not the brightest, though, as evidenced by the fact that he said he's going to try it again this year. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) it was probably the "vessel" he drank out of . . . I don't think I get the joke.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(downstairs @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) Please.... KW is not going to be and should not be fired. No way. That's silly. That doesn't mean he doesn't take most of the blame if there is a complete collapse or a 1st playoff series loss. He does. The proof is in the pudding. We've been a 2nd place team or a 1st place team than cannot do anything in the playoffs for DECADES. If he doesn't improve that, then we're no better and no worse with him (i.e. we're not going to have a losing season, we're not going to be in 3rd place). So he is either "Exec Of The Year" or "Par For The Course". The latter does not deserve firing this year... His job is to f***ing improve the team. I'm not saying he should be fired, but I'm tired of these garbage excuses for everyone. He's trying, he's worked all offseason on his swing, we could do worse...DO YOUR JOB.

Batboy Suspended
Sounds like it was more of a deal than a bet. You chug this milk, and we'll give you $500. It said he provided $500 worth of entertainment, so they must've paid him the money. On another note, I wouldn't recommend doing the gallon challenge. My buddy did it last year and he was sore for about a day. He was about a sip away from doing it before he "lost" it. The sound was funny, though, as it sounded like someone dumped a bucket of water into the toilet.

Armstrong doping "proven"
I already said this in the other thread, but I'll just paste it here, too. I'll comment on this because I actually have a credible source. One of my roommate's brothers is a trainer and he's worked with some of the participants in the Tour. He doesn't know for a fact that Lance did them, but he claims that just about every single rider he worked with (or heard about) was on them. He says for Lance to be able to utterly dominate those guys for so long, there most likely is a reason.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) The dreaded long and loopy swing. It's going to make Joe Crede an ex- Major Leaguer. On another note. Some folks are versatile. Even some without big jobs. Ive met more than a few baseball fans who are very observant about various facets and nuances of the game. Maybe they don't deserve a job in baseball, but neither do they deserve to be bashed or criticized either. All this losing is making people mean. It's like people criticizing the president, in some ways. Hey, if you can do a better job, you'd be in politics, right? Right?

Uribe is the model of consistency. He always sucks this year.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:41 AM) Irish, you're going to be proven wrong on this one. I'm telling you Paulie's right. Remember that 4 game series last September (or the year before) against the Twins in Chicago? The Sox won the first two and during the second game the Twins nearly came back and won. They went on to split the series and then swept the Sox the next week in minny. That 9th inning of that second game, even though the Sox won, was the turning point in the series and the season. They had their foot on the Twins' throat and they let them off the mat. I'm not saying this is the exact same thing, but Paulie's right. You can take positives from a loss, even a tough one. Freddy set the tone tonight and you can bet that Buehrle's going to feed off it and so will the rest of the team. They swung the bats as good as you can against Santana and nearly broke the game open a few times. You don't get many chances against the reigning Cy Young. Dude, the worm has turned and the Sox are going to be better from this slump. Take that to the bank. That six-run, four-homer inning against RJ was supposed to spark this lineup. I'm sure we'll be saying things like this a lot the rest of this year. That 9th inning where we almost came back is going to spark us. That shutout is going to spark us. That ass kicking we were handed is going to spark us. And I hope Buehrle feeds off this energy or whatever, but I don't trust him to beat a good team right now.

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Yeah, you're a class act. I'll take the high road and let you continue with your kiddy s***. I've never responded to your posts until recently so I have no idea why you're tring to be an asshole towards me and bait me into a petty argument...Have fun with that though. Have fun up there. :headshake

Beef, Dogs, or Pizza?
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) They're all Communists. I'll put this one to bed. Little kids eat hot dogs with ketchup all the time. Soxfan1 is still kind of young, so he's probably still in that group.

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) Seriously, STFU with that s***...People that assume what I think, know, and/or believe is a huge pet peeve...Let's at least keep it respectful. :headshake Better?

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Do you really need to know why pessimism is looked down upon? Yes, because I'm apparently another poster on here that isn't as intelligent as you believe you are. Why exactly is pessimism looked down upon when it is completely warranted by the constant failure of this team? Oh, and before someone gives me s*** for using the word failure, I mean that any year without winning the WS is a failure.

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Nice edit. And no, you have no way of being so sure that they'll "f*** it all up." There is no way to gurantee that. The pessimism on this board is both maddening and sad at the same time... I edited to make sure somebody doesn't assume the wrong thing. It's a feeling. You have no way of knowing they won't f*** it all up. There is no way to guarantee that. Why is pessimism looked down upon when this team has done nothing in almost 90 years to warrant a happy-go-lucky approach?

Are you IN or OUT?
Is anybody actually abandoning the Sox? I keep seeing people getting blamed for that, but who has said they're not a fan anymore?

Are you IN or OUT?
Everyone in this thread has a different definition of IN and OUT. I feel like I'm surrounded by Bill Clintons. I said out because I have to faith in this team to win. I have faith in them to do one thing, and that's break my heart. I won't let them break my heart again by admitting right now that I know they'll f*** it all up. I'll root for them, but I'm not going to let them inevitably ruin my days and break my heart. This sort of thing happens every single year, just on different levels. I think a lot more people feel like I do than are letting on in here. EDIT: I reiterate, I still root for them to win and I am still a fan.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
This s***'s f***ing ridiculous. Gave up 1 hit and lost. One god damn hit and we lost. f*** you, offense. Pods isn't saving this s*** heap. If we don't have one of the biggest regular season collapses of all time, which we just might, we'll see these types of games 3 times in the playoffs. 3 times, and we're out. KW has to give up anything to get some offense. It's just become ridiculous at this point. I swear to God this team will not get past the first round with this garbage.

Julio Franco....
QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Julio once said he wanted to play untill he was 50. That would be hilarious I see no reason why he can't, and I hope he does. He plays 1B (though he doesn't start) for a division-leading club at 47. I'm sure he can find a back-up role on a garbage team for a year or two if he has to find another place.

espn poll illinois 50 states in 50 days
Do they announce the results of the poll at some point? The Sox are winning by 2 percentage points, and I didn't see anything about it.
