GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS

Haven't been able to watch the last few games. Just looking at gameday a couple times to see the score and checking out the box scores at night. It's great to see them doing this (without actually seeing them). Can't stick around long, but I of course hope for more of the same. -

Wow, a little disappointed that I didn't get to see this one. Would've loved to see Sabathia finally get his heaping helping of s*** sammich. I won't be able to see the next two either, so I hope for similar results. -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Wagner has been openly campaigning to go to St Louis. I wonder if he has a no-trade clause? What in the hell would he want to go to St. Louis for? They already have a great closer in Isringhausen.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) All the time? Try twice this year. Yes, this makes him such a horrible defender. CURSE YOU OUTFIELDERS FOR NOT HAVING A 1.00 FIELDING PERCENTAGE! I didn't say he always loses balls in the light. I meant he does things like not get reads on the ball all the time. Oh, and STFU.
-
It's not really a bargain when he's only going to suck for us. That guy will get killed in the AL.

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Joel Sherman of the NY Post was on WFAN and reported that the Whitesox have scouts in NY to watch Tom Glavine pitch tonight.. Maybe Glavine is on his way to the Southside God, I hope not. 4.94 ERA, .325 BAA, 1.75 WHIP, averageing less than 6 innings a start, f***ing huge contract, and he's 39.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Why bring a guy up who can only play one position so he can play like once every two weeks? Konerko is going to play almost everyday, so needing him at 1B is a joke. All he can do is PH and play 1B. He can't run, he can't throw, and he can't play the OF. Just from a utilitarians point of view, Gload isn't nearly as helpful as some other guys. I have to laugh that everytime someone doesn't get called up, someone hates them. We need to get a tinfoil hat smilie. Gload can be used once a week to spell Konerko. In a late inning, he can pinch run for Konerko. He's not fast, but he's probably twice as fast as Konerko and can score from 2nd on a base hit. He can come in later as a defensive back-up because he's a great defender. We could also use a PH like Gload.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Speed has nothing to do with reading a ball off a bat. He should be better than a Little Leaguer at reading a ball off a bat, though. He should then be a GG-caliber OFer with his speed.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) It was said months ago that Gload probably wouldn't be able to play the OF all year because of his shoulder problems. Ozzie has also said that he wants someone who can play the OF. And after watching Dye serve as a decent backup in limited action, it made sense that Gload really wasn't needed. Dye, Rowand, Pods, Everett, Timo, and Harris/Ozuna (to an extent) can play the OF or have shown that they are passable out there. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why we need Gload to be able to play the OF. It makes me just think that somebody doens't like Ross.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) not me.... casey is nothing more than a fat, slow, bad defensive firstbaseman. yeah he hits for a nice average, but hes a singles hitter with limited power and 0 speed. If you are gonna be a singles hitter, you best be able to run. add in the fact that he makes 8 million and ill say no thank you. id rather have gload hit .265 with 15 homers over a full year for $300,000 than casey hit .305 with 15 homers for 8 million Wow, I didn't realize he made that much. I thought it was a lot lower than that. Forget that then.

GAME THREAD 7-15-05 SOX vs TRIBE
Milkman delivers replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I'm not gonna be able to see this or any other game this weekend. I hope I come home on Monday with some good things to talk about. -
I'm glad that Rowand, like the rest of us, figured out that Pods is an awful fielder. I guess it shows they know a lot about each other. I don't blame Pods for losing the ball in the lights, it happens. The guy just does stuff like this all the time. I can't understand how a guy with his speed can just be so bad out there. Anyway, great play by Aaron.
-
C'mon, nobody is really surprised by this, are you? Somebody clearly doesn't like Gload. That, or he really keeps to himself and neither hurts nor adds to the chemistry. Perhaps they're going to trade Willie at some point soon? Those are the only reasons I can come up with.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) From that article: I think Sean Casey would make a huge impact on this team. I'd love that, I really would. The thing is, we're not getting rid of Konerko this year. We can dream, though.
-
QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) with as many close games as this team plays, we NEED Crede's glove, and Uribe just won't do over there. we saw what happens when Ozuna plays 3B, so just think how many games we would have lost (not just how many runs would have scored) had Crede not made plays on those balls, keeping the inning going. It's not like Randa is a 12-year-old girl out there at 3B. He can play the position. Maybe not as well as Crede, but he can sure do it much better than Uribe or Ozuna. Crede is anywhere from a little better defensively to a little worse than Randa. It's not a big gap at all. And Randa's bat >>>> Crede's bat.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Conteras has the talent. If he can throw his fastball more and get that forkball near the strikezone he will be great. Its when he decides to abandon his fastball and throw a bunch of forkballls in the dirt that he pitches badly. Contreras is downright nasty sometimes, but nobody is comfortable watching him. Even when he throws a great game, it doesn't seem as dominant to us because of the way he pitches (slow, throwing a lot of pitches, walking a few). I believe Contreras thinks the same way we all do about him. Even when he throws great, he doesn't feel like did. Thus, like us, he has no confidence in himself. -
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) That makes me believe that perhaps Schmidt won't be as expensive as I thought... if he only costs prospects, then I wouldn't mind a deal. Getting him for prospects would be amazing. I would be stunned with happiness. Maybe they'd also give us Vizquel if we throw in more prospects and something like a reliever?

I am addicted to original and BBQ, and I have been for like 5 years. I can go through one of those gigantic bags a day if I get my hands on them. I think the Ranch and Nacho (?) are disgusting, though.
-
Gameday says he's 0-4 today, including making the last out in the 7th with the tying run on third.
-
This isn't the place to say it, but I don't wanna start a whole thread. Arod hit a game winning, 2-run homer off of Schilling in the 9th today. That's pretty much the only time I've been happy for Rodriguez.
